Welcome to K&L Wine Merchants! Since 1976 we've been proud to offer the world's finest wines, great service and competitive prices. We offer thousands of wines on this site with inventory updates happening in real time. In addition we operate 5 retail stores, in Redwood City, CA, San Francisco, CA, Hollywood, CA, Culver City, CA and New York City, NY. For several decades we've been publishing a free monthly newsletter.

Our selection and prices are superior. Our staff is outstanding. We offer highly rated wines from around the world. Additionally, we seek out little known wines from hot new wineries and find super values for our customers. Because we are located in Northern California in close proximity to many of the famous properties, we've established many relationships with these wineries and can buy in quantities that allow us to offer our wines at prices that are often below the wholesale cost of other stores. Wine merchants don't last fifty years in this business if their prices aren't competitive. Shop us out... we think you'll end up coming right back.

Our shelves

Our buyers travel to Europe several times each year to buy direct from the producers or negociants for the producers. The advantage of this direct buying is twofold: First, we can taste the wines at the property and negotiate with the seller on the spot, often finding wines that are not available on the US market. Second, we can get the wines to you, our value-conscious customers, at the best prices available. There are no middlemen such as European exporters, American importers, and American wholesalers, taking a percentage profit while passing it on through the channels of distribution. You reap the benefits of direct buying by getting outstanding, handpicked, best-value wines at below-market prices. We can't recommend these direct buys enough.

Many fine wine enthusiasts want more than just low prices and a good selection. You're looking for good recommendations and honest information on wines from around the world. You want to buy your bottles from a wine merchant using e-commerce... not an e-commerce company trying to sell wine. We opened our doors in 1976, the same year two guys named Steve started building computers in a California garage. We'd been recommending Bordeaux for nearly two decades before Amazon sold its first book. We've been doing this for a while.

Part of what has made our business work is a simple belief: educating the customer is a big part of a good wine merchant's job. We take the time to learn about wine regions and varietals worldwide, and then pass that along to you through our web site, our newsletter, on the phone, or in person. If you're simply looking for the best price on well-known products, you've come to the right spot. But you'd be missing out on the most interesting part of wine appreciation -- discovering new producers and new regions, and learning how dramatically different wines can taste depending on where they come from. You don't have to spend a fortune on wine to enjoy it, but you do need to be open to trying different selections. We realize your budget doesn't allow for poor recommendations.

K&L was founded in Millbrae, California in 1976 by Todd Zucker and Clyde Beffa Jr. Currently we operate stores in Redwood City, CA, San Francisco, CA, Hollywood, CA, Culver City, CA and New York City, NY. K&L has always remained a family business (Clyde and Todd are married to Kay and Linda).
