2015 Ritual Chardonnay Casablanca Valley

93 points James Suckling: "A bright and stoney Chardonnay with clarity and beauty. Full body, bright and tangy acidity with lime and green pineapple character. Vertical tension to this. Long and flavorful finish. Drink now." (05/2016) Vinous: "Light, bright yellow. Aromas of fresh pear and orange pith, accompanied by a quinine accent in the background. Chewy and a touch dry on the palate, offering biter pear skin and citrus pith flavors and a subtle honeysuckle note. Finishes taut and nervy, displaying repeating citrus fruit character. 2017 Bodegas Colomé Torrontes Valle Calchaquí Salta

93 points Decanter: "A benchmark Torrontés with an intense, perfumed nose followed by a balanced palate that's full of concentrated ripe fruit and freshness. Zesty notes of grapefruit are apparent, combining with subtle floral hints and crisp citric acidity to create a very fine example, which emphasises how special Calchaquí is for this variety." (04/2018) 91 points James Suckling: "Full of citrus and peach this is a delicious wine that has stacks of fruit. Very fresh acidity and no sharp edges. Mineral finish. Drink now." 2017 Don Rodolfo "Art of the Andes" Pinot Noir Mendoza

90 points James Suckling: "An unpretentious, but really attractive Pinot with bright cherry and orange peel notes. Maybe it doesn't have the depth of a Romanée Conti on the palate, but there's a good balance of fruit, lively acidity and discreet tannins." (04/2018) K&L Notes: Don Rodolfo is an intriguing venture coming out of the Andes Mountains. A focus on sustainable practices in the vineyard and proceeds from sales that benefit artists make this an easy label to support—not to mention the purity of fruit that comes with each wine. 2015 Bodegas Norton "Privada" Family Blend Mendoza

95 points James Suckling: "A very intense nose of blackberries, mulberries, violet extract, charcuterie, Indian spices and really flamboyant licorice. Full body, lots of juicy, grainy tannins, tangy acidity, tons of dark plum fruit and a long, chewy finish. With a little less wood and more polish, this would have scored even higher. A blend of malbec, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Drink in 2022. Bodega Weinert "Corte Clásico" Mendoza

Given its large, well used assortment of wooden toneles and fouders, housed in a no frills winery in the heart of Mendoza's primera zona, it is easy to compare Weinert to such wine world traditionalist stalwarts as Lopez de Heredia in Rioja, or Lebanon's Chateau Musar (whose wines are brought in by Weinert's US importer). This classic cut is so named as it takes the old Carrascal blend of 55% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Merlot and updates it in a most unusual way...by making it a multi vintage blend containing up to 11 different vintages of t ...Read More »

A blend of Torrontes and Riesling." (04/2018) K&L Notes: Colomé is Donald Hess' groundbreaking Argentinian winery in the rugged, high elevation Salta region. 2016 Amalaya Malbec Salta

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The entry-level wine is called 2015 Malbec, even if it still has some 10% Tannat and 5% Syrah in the blend. 2015 saw 140 liters of rain, healthy grapes and good levels of acidity. The grapes come from seven-year-old vines that yielded 9,000 kilos per hectare, 100% from estate grapes. The grapes fermented with neutral yeasts after a four-day cold soak with a total maceration of some 20 days. 25% of the volume matured in used French oak barrels for ten months, while the rest was kept in stainless steel with fine le ...Read More »

(04/2018) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Cropped from a typical El Niño vintage that was cooler and with a late harvest, the 2016 Malbec comes from their old vineyard Finca Drummond in Luján de Cuyo, which was planted ungrafted 88 years ago at 980 meters in altitude. 2017 Apaltagua Pinot Gris Reserva San Antonio Valley

From one of our most consistently under the radar producers of varietal wine in Chile, this Pinot Gris is delicious: brightly fruited yet with some textural weight, it most resembles Williamette Valley Pinot Gris in style. Very much worth a try to enjoy as an aperitive or with a pan seared fillet of salmon and sauteed greens with garlic.

2017 Dos Minas Torrontés Cafayate

As Sauvignon Blanc is to New Zealand, Torrontes is to Argentina. This fun, kicky label is no mass-market brand. It's a very small production project from the northern Cafayate region, ideal for growing crisp white wines like this. Importer Michael Skurnik tells the story: "The dos minas ("two chicks" in Argentine slang) of the name are Lucía Romero, who runs Bodega El Porvenir de los Andes in Cafayate, Argentina, and Heather Willens, who came to Buenos Aires via California and has experience working with small wineries in Argentina. On the finish, intense black-fruit and salt-tinged flavors are powerful but balanced. (MS)" (02/2017) 90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Saturated medium ruby. Refugio is less prone to frost, as it's made from grapes from the valley. Ostertag's son, Arthur, is now involved in the winemaking, and as a result, they made a lot of changes in 2017, such as including about 25% full clusters in the fermentation.
