Bordeaux

We're extremely focused on Bordeaux - several staff members fly over to the region on multiple trips each year to taste new vintages from barrel and older vintages from bottle. K&L also enjoys excellent relationships with negociants and châteaux, and over the years we've established outstanding allocations on the top wines. It hasn't hurt that one of K&L's owners is a complete Bordeaux fanatic and our main buyer. The top red wines are typically blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc and the white are primarily Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, though the blends vary substantially depending on which part of the region you're talking about. Within Bordeaux you'll also find the sweet wines of Sauternes. Interested in great Bordeaux? Look no further...

2006 Haut-Bergey, Pessac-Léognan

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Consistently one of the top, under-the-radar wines of Pessac-Leognan, Haut-Bergey's beautiful 2006 boasts a deep ruby/purple hue as well as a classic bouquet of hot rocks intermixed with graphite, cassis, incense, and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied with noticeable but sweet tannin, impressive purity, and an alluring texture, it is relatively evolved for a 2006, so consumption over the next 15 years is recommended. 2015 De Brousse, Côtes de Castillon (Previously $15)

70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Brousse vineyard comprises 30 hectares of clay and limestone, most of which lies on a south-facing slope. Low yields and careful pruning create an incredibly complex, focused wine. Tasting notes from the importer: "This Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux is an exceptionally rich, deep black-purple colored and mouthfilling wine, with generous flavors of plush, ripe, spicy black cherries and currants with notes of dark chocolate. It is ready for current enjoyment and represents an excellent value from th... Read More »

2009 Bellevue, St-Emilion Top Pick!
2009 Bellevue, St-Emilion

92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Big, deep fruit, smoky tannins, but beautifully integrated, rich, packed with plum juice sweetness." (8/2010) 93 points James Suckling: "Blackberry, with spices such as nutmeg and cloves follow through to a full body and fine tannins, with sweet fruit. Balanced and delicious. Best in 2017." (2/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made under the guidance of Hubert du Bouard, this blend of primarily Merlot and a tiny dollop of Cabernet Franc (around 9%) from the limestone soils on the hillsides of St.-Emilion exhibits a dense purple color, lots of chalky minerality and a big, sweet perfume of boysenberries, blackberr ...Read More »

2000 Citran, Haut-Medoc Top Pick!
2000 Citran, Haut-Medoc

91 points Wine Spectator: "Beautiful aromas of currants, berries and flowers. Full-bodied, with a wonderfully integrated palate of ripe fruit and fine tannins. Long finish. Best Citran in years. (JS)" (3/2003) Jancis Robinson: "Excellent colour. Still some toasty oak on the nose. Refreshing even if not the biggest and boldest of this range. Needs a bit of time for that oak to integrate but this should make an appetising bottle." (10/2003) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A voluminous, rich, structured effort with plenty of toasty new oak, deep black currants, and licorice interwoven with body and density, this serious wine should have ...Read More »

2005 Haut-Bergey, Pessac-Léognan

91 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of mineral, blackberry and licorice lead to a full body, with lots of racy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. There's plenty of character, with a polished, refined style, yet tannic. Best after 2011. (JS)" (3/2008) 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Scattered notes of stony spice and tobacco join with fairly solid young curranty fruit in both the aromas and flavors of this full-scaled and well-extracted young Graves, and it delivers a little more volume and depth than we would expect at the price. It is long on tannic grip at the moment and is thus one meant for the cellar, and we ...Read More »

2014 Croix Mouton, Bordeaux Supérieur (Previously $15) Top Pick!
2014 Croix Mouton, Bordeaux Supérieur (Previously $15)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Croix Mouton offers creme de cassis, boysenberry jam and a hint of bell pepper on the nose. It is upfront and quite bold for the vintage, typical for the estate. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannin, full of blackberry and cassis fruit, a pleasant fleshiness towards the glossy finish. For certain this is, as always, unapologetically modern in style, but this is balanced and powerful. (NM)" (3/2017) Vinous: "The 2014 Croix-Mouton is powerful, dark and fleshy, with pretty notes of tobacco, underbrush, cedar and smoke. Drink this hearty, bold Bordeaux ...Read More »

2010 Saint-Pierre, St-Julien (Pre-Arrival)

97 points Decanter: "Bilberry, cassis, sweet concentrated cherry coulis. From a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot, this is still a swaggeringly tannic wine, with a gorgeous display of liquorice spice. Barely opening up, one for the very long haul. Wonderful example of a Saint Julien wine that is increasingly making all the right moves. (JA)" (6/2016) 97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2010 from Chateau Saint-Pierre is a straight up tour de force that’s an incredible value in today’s market. Inky colored, deep, rich and sensationally concentrated, yet also fresh and lively, it gives up tons of m ...Read More »

2015 Labégorce, Margaux (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2015 Labégorce, Margaux (Pre-Arrival)

94-96 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a beautiful wine, full of great fruit and balanced dusty tannins. It is ripe and stylish, with all the elements in place. It should mature well. (RV)" (4/2016) 94 points James Suckling: "Dried-mushroom and dark-fruit character. Some flowers, too. Full body, round and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Big and chewy. Yet finishes beautifully. Fantastic. Better in 2022." (2/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Labegorce is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc matured in 45% new and 55% one-year-old barrels. Deep garnet-purple in color with a nose of ...Read More »
