Reviewed March 2026The 2023 Suduiraut is a model of modern Sauternes. Orange peel, burnt sugar, crème-brûlée, tangerine peel, and wild flowers inform a Sauternes of total finesse and silkiness. Yields were a measly 12 hectoliters per hectare. The 150 grams of residual sugar are not especially evident. Everything about the 2023 is perfectly judged. It can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring or cellared for decades. The 2023 is a timeless wine that is among the most notable successes of the year. (AG)

Medium gold-hued, the 2023 Château Suduiraut has absolutely riveting aromatics of honeyed orange, caramelized citrus, baking spice, and brioche. It's rich, full-bodied, pure, and ultra-seamless on the palate, with a deep, layered mouthfeel and incredible length. Based on 100% Sémillon and aged 20 months in 50% new French oak, it's heavenly stuff that will have 50-75 years of longevity. Drink 2026-2100.

The Wine Palate
Pale lemon-gold in color, the 2023 Suduiraut storms out of the glass with a powerful perfume of pineapple upside-down cake, mango pudding, passion fruit, and orange blossoms, leading to hints of lemon verbena, candied ginger, and crème caramel. The palate is rich and opulent with a crisp backbone and a fabulous array of exotic spice-laced tropical fruits, finishing with savory gravitas. Stunning. This is 100% Sémillon, with a pH of 3.80 and 150 g/l of residual sugar. (LPB)

This is 100% Semillon as usual. A modestly dense colour, and a focused nose of crushed minerals, yellow peach, apricot, orange and toast, pure but clearly showing great depth. The palate is just sublime, combining all this aromatic character with a core of sweet and dense orchard fruits, with a pithy density and grip, a wonderful acid freshness and seams of pure, white quartz minerals. A truly impressive wine, with such controlled richness and superbly bitter energy, achieving a remarkable balance, with energy and clean-cut definition despite such rich and sunny sweetness. A cut above the rest.
Notes
Château Suduiraut has been one of Sauternes' reference-point estates since its classification as a Premier Cru in 1855. The property sits in Preignac, bordering Yquem, where gravel and sandy soils and the autumn mists of the Ciron River create ideal conditions for botrytis, the noble rot that defines the region's great sweet wines.
