2017 Bodegas Colomé Torrontes Valle Calchaquí Salta

93 points Decanter: "A benchmark Torrontés with an intense, perfumed nose followed by a balanced palate that's full of concentrated ripe fruit and freshness. Zesty notes of grapefruit are apparent, combining with subtle floral hints and crisp citric acidity to create a very fine example, which emphasises how special Calchaquí is for this variety." (04/2018) 91 points James Suckling: "Full of citrus and peach this is a delicious wine that has stacks of fruit. Very fresh acidity and no sharp edges. Mineral finish. Drink now." 93 points James Suckling: "This is a fantastic wine for the vintage with a clarity and brightness on the nose and palate. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a delicious finish. 2015 was a tough year for Argentina but this is a beautiful wine. Drink now" (04/2018) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The classical 2015 Alta Collection Cabernet Sauvignon was produced with grapes from their estate vineyards in San Pablo. Bodega Weinert "Corte Clásico" Mendoza

Given its large, well used assortment of wooden toneles and fouders, housed in a no frills winery in the heart of Mendoza's primera zona, it is easy to compare Weinert to such wine world traditionalist stalwarts as Lopez de Heredia in Rioja, or Lebanon's Chateau Musar (whose wines are brought in by Weinert's US importer). This classic cut is so named as it takes the old Carrascal blend of 55% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Merlot and updates it in a most unusual way...by making it a multi vintage blend containing up to 11 different vintages of t ...Read More »

2017 Don Rodolfo "Art of the Andes" Pinot Noir Mendoza

90 points James Suckling: "An unpretentious, but really attractive Pinot with bright cherry and orange peel notes. Maybe it doesn't have the depth of a Romanée Conti on the palate, but there's a good balance of fruit, lively acidity and discreet tannins." (04/2018) K&L Notes: Don Rodolfo is an intriguing venture coming out of the Andes Mountains. A focus on sustainable practices in the vineyard and proceeds from sales that benefit artists make this an easy label to support—not to mention the purity of fruit that comes with each wine. 91 points James Suckling: "A vibrant, but well-balanced dry white with tons of fresh fruit salad aromas and a hint of floral honey. A crisp, salty, mineral finish. A great food wine! A blend of Torrontes and Riesling." (04/2018) K&L Notes: Colomé is Donald Hess' groundbreaking Argentinian winery in the rugged, high elevation Salta region. Amalaya is a label from this winery that presents blends based on Torrontes (for the white) and Malbec for the red. 2015 Bodega Mendel "Estate" Malbec Mendoza

93 points James Suckling: "(aged in 40% new oak; from vines averaging 89 years of age): Deep, bright medium ruby. Very ripe on the nose, offering scents of singed black raspberry, licorice and Baker's chocolate. Fatter and less refined than the 2015 Cabernet but the superripe dark berry, plum, spice and chocolate flavors spread out nicely to saturate the palate. Finishes with dense, broad, smooth tannins and very good length." (06/2017) 91 points Vinous: "(aged in 40% new oak; from vines averaging 89 years of age): Deep, bright medium ruby. Gorgeous freshness, brightness and integrity. One of the ultimate natural wines. Drink or hold. Love." (04/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Sin Azufre shows superbly, with precision and freshness, full of character. 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Appellation range keeps growing, and the new name this time is the 2016 Appellation San Carlos Cabernet Franc, produced with grapes from the most fashionable red variety at the moment. It is from 20-year-old vines in El Cepillo, one of the cooler places of San Carlos in Valle de Uco. Furthermore, 2016 was a particularly cool year, so the wine is really a "cool climate" example. 2017 Dos Minas Torrontés Cafayate

As Sauvignon Blanc is to New Zealand, Torrontes is to Argentina. This fun, kicky label is no mass-market brand. It's a very small production project from the northern Cafayate region, ideal for growing crisp white wines like this. Importer Michael Skurnik tells the story: "The dos minas ("two chicks" in Argentine slang) of the name are Lucía Romero, who runs Bodega El Porvenir de los Andes in Cafayate, Argentina, and Heather Willens, who came to Buenos Aires via California and has experience working with small wineries in Argentina. At 15.5%, this is SuperUco's biggest wine, and while it's heavy on the palate, with grapy, peppery blackberry flavors, it hides its weight and alcohol well. On the finish, intense black-fruit and salt-tinged flavors are powerful but balanced. (MS)" (02/2017) 90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Saturated medium ruby. The nose takes time to take off, and it's more subtle than the 2014, but in the same spectrum of aromas. There is good freshness and elegance here, with ultra-fine tannins and very good acidity. Amor Seco is the name of a local Patagonian flower, in addition to lending its name to this lovely expression of Merlot from one of the most consistently surprising wineries in all of South America. Gen d'A is yet another Michelini brothers project, started by Gerardo Michelini and his wife Andrea Mufatto. They use fruit grown on a single vineyard in Gualtallary (within the Tupungato sub-zone). In contrast with the prior vintage, this 2017 is a bit brawnier, showcasing Malbec perhaps a bit more than Pinot, but still with lovely dark berry fruit flavors and an impressive, sturdy structure. Carmelo likes to sell wines that are ready to drink, and this one certainly is, with developed aromas and a polished texture. 2017 Gen del Alma "Ji Ji Ji" Chenin Blanc Gualtallary

In contrast to the racy, very low abv 2016, this vintage of Ji Ji Ji Chenin is a big boy at 11.5% abv! We love what Gen del Alma is doing in Tunuyan (Uco Valley), in this case from the paraje (sort of like the French notion of a lieu dit, or named place smaller than a village but bigger than a vineyard) of Villa Seca. 92 points James Suckling: "A fresh and aromatic red with blackcurrant, fresh flower and light stem character. Medium body, firm and silky tannins and a crisp finish. Drink now or hold." (04/2018) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As with most of the high-volume cuvées, the 2016 Felino Cabernet Sauvignon mixes grapes from different origins, mainly Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco. 2013 Carmelo Patti "Gran Assemblage" Lujan de Cuyo

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Jumping a few vintages, as the last time I tasted the 2008, the 2013 Gran Assemblage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Franc from the same vineyard in Perdriel where the winemaker, year after year, sources the grapes for all his wines. 2015 Carmelo Patti Malbec Lujan de Cuyo New!
2015 Carmelo Patti Malbec Lujan de Cuyo

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Malbec is a classic from Perdriel in Luján de Cuyo, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in a combination of concrete vats and used oak barrels. 2015 was a slightly warmer vintage than 2014, and the wine shows round, with juicy fruit and still primary flavors of ripe berries and faint spices. The palate is sleek and lush, soft and caressing, easy to drink. 12,960 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2016. (LG)" (06/2018)
