2014 Tapiz "Alta Collection" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza Top Pick!
2014 Tapiz "Alta Collection" Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza

96 points James Suckling: "A wine with lots of depth and fruit now with dark berry and dark chocolate character. Full body, velvety tannins and a long and flavorful finish. So much here. Give it four to five years bottle age. Great wine." (5/2016) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Cabernet’s spice and mint notes mix here with deep cassis flavor. It’s tender, with enough depth for long-cooked meat and with tense acidity from its Andean origin in San Pablo, one of the highest areas planted to vines in Valle de Uco." (2/2017) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Alta Collection Cabernet Sauvignon was very fresh and subtle, with perfectly integrated ...Read More »

2017 Bodegas Colomé Torrontes Valle Calchaquí Salta

93 points Decanter: "A benchmark Torrontés with an intense, perfumed nose followed by a balanced palate that's full of concentrated ripe fruit and freshness. Zesty notes of grapefruit are apparent, combining with subtle floral hints and crisp citric acidity to create a very fine example, which emphasises how special Calchaquí is for this variety." (4/2018) 91 points James Suckling: "Full of citrus and peach this is a delicious wine that has stacks of fruit. Very fresh acidity and no sharp edges. Mineral finish. Drink now." 2009 Bodegas Poesia "Cuvée Helene" Malbec Mendoza (Previously $20) Top Pick!
2009 Bodegas Poesia "Cuvée Helene" Malbec Mendoza (Previously $20)

Bodega Poesia is a project created by Hélène Garcin-Lévêque and her husband, winemaker Patrice Lévêque. With their multiple properties throughout Bordeaux (Clos l’Église Pomerol, Barde-Haut, Haut Bergey and Branon) the next logical move for them, as for many Bordeaux families, is to establish a winery in South America. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec flourish in Argentina. Founded in 1998, Bodega Poesia has quickly established itself as one of the top producers of Malbec, under the guiding hand of Patrice Lévêque with the marketing acumen of Hélène... Read More »

2014 Tapiz "Alta Collection" Malbec Mendoza

95 points James Suckling: "A solid wine with blackberry and black pepper character. Full body, chewy tannins and a fresh and cool finish. So polished and beautiful. From grapes grown in Valle de Uco. Pomerol's legend Jean-Claude Berrouet consults here. Better in 2018." (5/2016) 91 points Wine & Spirits: "Sitting at 4,400 feet in altitude, the San Pablo area is now one of the most sought-after spots for grape growing in the Uco Valley. At that altitude, Malbec grapes ripen with intense flavors and firm acidity, as in this red from vines planted in 2007. It is rich in notes of tart cherries and violets with a p ...Read More »

(6/2017) K&L Notes: Pascual Toso is one of the oldest wineries in Argentina, founded in Mendoza in 1890 by Italian immigrant Pascual Toso. They make a variety of wines from Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon, ranging from prestigious, single-vineyard blends to easy-drinking table wines. In 2007, Pascual Toso won the trophy for best Argentinian producer at the International Wines and Spirits Challenge.

2016 Amalaya Malbec Salta

90 points Decanter: "This wonderful label has a knack of translating the breathless altitude, rugged landscape and fierce sun of the Calchaquí Valley into intense yet balanced wines. Tons of roasted dark fruit, with hints of coffee and chocolate. Intense, grounded and long. Drink 2018-2023. (PR)" (1/2018) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A creamy and lush-tasting red, with vibrant crushed red fruit flavors. The peppery finish has good cut and length, showing plenty of juiciness. A blend of top vineyards." (5/2018) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Ultra Malbec is heady, ripe and faintly oaky, defining the house style in an approachable entry-level red. 2015 Benmarco Malbec Uco Valley

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are more notes of aromatic herbs (thyme mainly) in the nose of the 2015 Benmarco Malbec, from a year with an extra degree of freshness compared with 2014. This is also sourced from Los Chacayes and matured in used oak barrels. The palate shows great balance, very fine tannins and a fine thread of acidity going through its core, lifting it up and giving it length. Some 100,000 bottles produced. Pepper and cigar box notes show on the long and complex finish." (12/2017) K&L Notes: Produced from biodynamically farmed Malbec, with some Tannat blended in as well, this wine is produced from some of the highest elevation vines in production anywhere in the world, at more than 7,000 feet above sea level! 92 points James Suckling: "I love the perfume and freshness to this with flower and blackberry undertones. Medium body, fine tannins and an underlying firmness and balance. Drink it!" (11/2016) K&L Notes: The 2015 La Posta Malbec is named for grower Domingo Fazzio, whose Malbec is grown at 3,500 feet elevation in the Tupungato region of Mendoza. Besides all of the calling-card flavors of cassis and soft red fruits, the wine has freshness and grace. It’s on par with the quality of many of the region's $20-$25 Malbecs—those that display elegance and finesse as well as texture.

2015 Catena Appellation Malbec Lunlunta

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I also tasted the 2015 Appellation Lunlunta Malbec, a cooler vintage that resulted in a more austere and stony wine, incredibly mineral for the price range. The nose takes time to take off, and it's more subtle than the 2014, but in the same spectrum of aromas. There is good freshness and elegance here, with ultra-fine tannins and very good acidity. A bargain. (LG) 91+" (12/2016) 90 points Vinous: "Bright, dark red. Sexy scents of blackberry and violet. Juicy and firmly built but not especially fleshy or deep. This wine is made from grapes grown at 1,700 metres, which lends a tangy and refreshing aroma with bright floral notes mixed with citrus and spice. This aromatic white is an absolutely cracker, more refreshing and vibrant than a Gewürztraminer and making it ideal as an aperitif or to pair with Asian food. 2015 Dominio del Plata "Crios de Susana Balbo" Malbec Mendoza

Crios means offspring (as in children). Susana selected a word to express the notion that these are wines that haven't quite 'grown up' to the same level of maturity as her more expensive Susana Balbo signature label wines, but they receive the same loving care and attention throughout the winemaking process. The label features a series of three connected and overlapping hands, an image inspired by a Mayan artifact. The three hands represent Susana and her two children.

2015 Catena Appellation Malbec La Consulta

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "For now the whole appellation range comes from single vineyards, and the 2015 Appellation La Consulta Malbec is sourced from an old 25-hectare vineyard in the banks of the Tunuyán river in the higher part of La Consulta, very close to Altamira, where the soils have clay and boulders from the river. This part of the Valle de Uco in a cool vintage like 2015 produced a serious, cold Malbec, less expressive in the nose but with a mineral sensation and a palate where the tannins are extremely fine. It's a fruit-driven, fresh Pinot Noir sold at an incredible price. Clean, ripe without excess, with a light to medium-bodied palate, fine tannins and juicy fruit. Great value. (LG)" (6/2018) K&L Notes: The 2017 vintage of what has to be one of our more serious sub $15 Pinot Noirs in Zorzal's "Terroir Unico" is delicious: slightly floral, a bit savory, and nicely structured with precise, lightly firm tannins. The bottled wine contains perhaps 15% Malbec in the blend, and they will soon stop mentioning Cabernet Franc on the label. There are pungent flavors, very good intensity and balance and the chalky sensation is nicely coated by juicy fruit. One for the table. Gorgeous freshness, brightness and integrity. One of the ultimate natural wines. Drink or hold. Love." (4/2018) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Sin Azufre shows superbly, with precision and freshness, full of character. It fermented in stainless steel vats with selected yeasts, and 10% of the volume matured in new American oak barrels, but they are slowly introducing maybe 1% French barriques. It's developing slowly--in fact, it felt younger than the last time I sampled it. It could be an atypical Mendoza year, and the wine has volume, good ripeness and keeps the acidity. 2006 Achával Ferrer "Finca Mirador" Malbec Mendoza

95 points Wine Spectator: "*Highly Recommended* This has a stunning nose, with a high-toned violet note running through waves of warm blueberry, fig, boysenberry and raspberry compote. The intense palate is superracy, with superb underlying minerality driving the fruit through the long, seamless finish. Flaunts power without ever getting bombastic. Malbec. Drink now through 2018." (11/2008) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby. Blackberry, mocha, tobacco and a musky gamey note on the nose; smells sweeter today than the Finca Altamira. Then suppler, sweeter and wilder on the palate, with a more pliant, feminin ...Read More »

2015 Atamisque Malbec Uco Valley

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Showing the higher ripeness of the year, the 2015 Malbec is heady and has black fruit aromas and a round, lush texture, with balance, integrated oak and a polished, sleek palate. (LG)" (6/2018) K&L Notes: Atamisque is the first property you will see upon entering the Uco Valley from the north. This Malbec comes from 80-year-old vines growing on two separate vineyards in the U... Read More »

2016 Bodegas Chacra "Cincuenta y Cinco" Pinot Noir Rio Negro

Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, the grandson of Sassicaia founder Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, ended up in Patagonia after tasting a bottle of Pinot Noir he fell in love with, and was told came from old vines in Patagonia. This wine comes from 60 year-old, head pruned vines in the Rio Negro Valley of Patagonia. Fermented in very small enamel lined tanks, and then transferred to French oak barrels (20% new), this is a beautiful, bright and nuanced expression of Pinot Noir, with succulent fruit and elegant texture. An eye opener for the potential of Pinot N... Read More »

2010 Viamonte Gran Reserva Malbec Mendoza

Produced from 45 year-old Malbec vines in Vistalba, this beauty is showing wonderfully given the high quality of the vintage, 18 months in barrel and the 6 years of bottle age. Definitely an eye opener for anyone who has not tasted a well made Malbec with 5+ years in bottle.
