Burgundy

Welcome to one of the most historic wine regions in the world, a province of eastern France that is famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of other grapes are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) This is complicated and exciting territory - the hallowed ground where more than a few bonafide wine geeks end up. View our selection...

Louis Bouillot Crémant de Bourgogne "Perle d'Aurore" Brut Rosé

90 points Decanter: "The Louis Bouillot ‘Perle’ series is exceptionally well-crafted for its price and all of the wines are recommendable. I’ve picked out the Rosé Perle d’Aurore, though, as rosé is something of a Bouillot speciality (over a million bottles are produced every year) and it’s a wine which isn’t shy about its burgundian identity. “We want,” says Marcel Combes, “vinosity above all, almost a touch of tannin, with what you could almost call a compote style of fruit.” Autumn red fruits are there on the nose, but in a soft and understated style; on the palate, by ...Read More »

2016 Kalinda Bourgogne Blanc Top Pick!
2016 Kalinda Bourgogne Blanc

For decades now, our Kalinda private label has been providing K&L customers with awesome wines at a fraction of what they'd normally pay under the producers' mainstay labels. 2016 was such a short vintage in Burgundy that many producers had to source new fruit just to fill the barrels. The good news is the quality of the 2016 vintage was spectacular, so the fruit they purchased was exceptional in most cases. This is exactly what happened to Jacque Bavard, one of our favorite producers in Burgundy, and the reason we can offer our first Bourgogne Blanc und... Read More »

2016 Domaine des Niales Rhedon-Marin Mâcon-Villages Vieilles Vignes Top Pick!
2016 Domaine des Niales Rhedon-Marin Mâcon-Villages Vieilles Vignes

This is a charming Chardonnay from a small grower in the Mâcon. Lionel Rhedon-Marin is a recent graduate of the College of Viticulture in the nearby village of Davaye, where Guffens trained. All of their young-vine fruit is sold in bulk to one of the better negociants, who is pleased to have it, since Lionel is such a careful grower. But their old-vine fruit, all over 45 years of age, is kept for the Domaine's wine, which is tantalizing and elegant. Our staff raves include: "This Domaine has always over-delivered." 2016 Jean-Claude Boisset Bourgogne Rouge "Les Ursulines"

91 points James Suckling: "Some might say that this is a natural wine because zero sulfur was used during the vinification (note: there was a minimal sulfur dose before bottling). Nevertheless, a very harmonious Bourgogne rouge with lovely, dark berries. Long and supple finish. Drink now or in 2019 and 2020." (2/2018) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A smoky version, offering black cherry, blackberry, earth and spice flavors to match the toasty oak. 2016 Domaine Renaud St-Véran

Once in a great while you find wines from the Mâcon so good that tasting them blind you are forced to apply some much higher (and more expensive) appellation to it. Often, such a wine comes from hillside vineyards, with better drainage and cooler nights. This is such a wine, from the slopes below the giant monolith of rock that is Solutré. 2015 Domaine Parent Pommard "La Croix Blanche"

89-91 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "An appealingly fresh assortment of distinctly earthy red and dark currant aromas introduces seductively textured and solidly concentrated medium-bodied flavors where the velvety texture contrasts somewhat with the slightly rustic finale. There is a hint of warmth but overall this is a very fine Pommard villages that is worth considering. *Outstanding - Top Value*" (4/2017) 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Pommard Village la Croix Blanches contains 30% whole cluster and 30% new French oak. It has a lovely black cherry and bergamot-scented bouquet with fine delineation and neatly s ...Read More »

2016 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Combettes"

94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Vestiges of post-bottling sulfur don't completely mask the otherwise elegant citrus, white pear and acacia blossom aromas. The detailed, intense and concentrated medium weight plus flavors possess excellent drive on the refined, pure and strikingly long finish. As is often the case, this classy effort takes best in show for the Sauzet 1ers in 2016. *Sweet Spot, Outstanding*" (6/2018) 91-93 points Vinous: "(Boudot has been steadily replanting his acreage with old massale vines over the past dozen years): Aromas of ripe apple, peach and hazelnut reminded me of Meursault. Silky, s ...Read More »

2013 Domaine Louis Jadot Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (Previously $140)

91-94 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The profusely wooded nose displays plenty of menthol attributes along with various red and dark berry fruit, herbal tea, earth and a pretty floral nuance. There is fine power and concentration to the large-scaled, intense and muscular flavors that deliver excellent length on the overtly robust and rustic finale that is presently very tannic yet not hard though there is ample youthful austerity present. This will clearly need plenty of time." (4/2015) 92 points John Gilman: "The 2013 Clos Vougeot from Maison Jadot is a young and properly reserved wine out of the blocks, but this w ...Read More »

2015 Domaine Jean-Marc & Huighes Pavelot Savigny-les-Beaune Rouge

87-90 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A notably ripe nose combines notes of plum, violet, earth and a hint spice. There is both good energy and delineation to the polished, delicious and relatively refined middle weight flavors that possess fine depth and sneaky good length. This is sufficiently forward that it should drink well young." (4/2017) 90 points John Gilman: "The 2015 Savigny villages had been assembled into tank prior to my visit, in anticipation of bottling early in the new year. This too is ripe and generous in personality, but shows a bit more structure right now than the generous Chorey. The bouquet de ...Read More »

2011 Domaine Ponsot Bourgogne "Cuvée du Pinson"

Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Reduction blocks an evaluation of the nose but there is good verve to the textured and agreeably supple flavors that are delicious and easy-to-like but not simple." (1/2013) Jancis Robinson: "Bottom of Morey east of the main road. Very pure and fruity and juicy – pure pleasure! Firm finish but all in all a lovely wine; would serve as a great introduction to the pleasures of red burgundy." (2/2013)

2015 Domaine Jean-Michel Giboulot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Peuillets"

Jean-Michel is the third Giboulot to head the family estate in Savigny-lès-Beaune, having resided over the 12 hectares in Beaune, Pommard, and Savigny since 1982. Recently making the conversion over to organic farming, the wines have become fresher and rounder thanks to more destemming as well. The 2015 vintage might be the best we've yet tasted from the portfolio, one that we've been working with directly now for a number of years.
