Suntory "Hibiki Japanese Harmony" Blended Japanese Whisky (750ml)
Back In Stock!
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "The newest blended whisky offering from Hibiki is burnished gold in the glass and has a bold aroma that mixes vanilla, fresh pear and a hint of smoke. The smokiness comes forward at the first sip, wrapping around a core of oak and vanilla custard and finishing long, with a mouthwatering bitter chocolate note. *Best of 2016* (KN)" (03/2016) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Poised and complex, with typically lifted fruitiness: strawberry ice cream, pineapple, peach, balanced by delicate oak, bamboo shoot-like delicacy, then lemon. ...

92 points Whisky Advocate: "New Riff is still too, well, new to have established “classic” flavors, but this bourbon certainly shows consistency with the distillery’s bottled in bond version—amped up here at barrel proof. Almonds and berries lead the nose, but it boasts voluminous depth with notes of peanuts, iced tea, orange blossom, tobacco leaf, and baking spice. Dark fruit, textured spice, savory peanuts, dark chocolate, mint oil, orange, almond, and cherry on the palate; adding water is a good idea. The finish extends all the flavors with seemingly ...

Faultline Blended Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
For years, we'd dreamed of creating an inexpensive, delicious, value-driven, yet simultaneously interesting expression of blended Scotch whisky that we could feature under our Faultline label. There were many times when we thought we were close, but either the quality of the whisky or the cost of the barrels proved prohibitive. We didn't want to make a $25 bottle of whisky just for the sake of it. If we were going to do it, then we were going to it right. Finally, after working on and off with the Laings for a year-long blending process, we hammered out ...

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Sip or mix this single malt, aged in American and European ex-sherry barrels. Mellow honey and smooth, nutty flavors taper off into a long fade that shows vanilla, citrus, sweet spices and a hint of cocoa. (KN)" (12/2017) 90 points Whisky Advocate: "Two oaks are better than one in this single malt, which marries whiskies matured in sherry-seasoned casks of both American and European oak. The sherry imparts aromas of raisins, figs, hazelnuts, blanched almonds, candied orange peel, and leather. A backbone of vanilla sweetness ...

There isn't much that needs to be said about this. Mortlach meet sherry, sherry mortlach. Two and a half decades later the marriage is still a perfect one. What's the secret? Listening and mutal respect or raw unbridled attraction? Probably both. There may be no right answer, but no one questions that these two things belong together. The Mortlach distillery, known locally as the Beast of Dufftown, is one of those great distilleries that has never been given proper attention by its owners. The distillery has quietly been a key component in the great Scot...

Isle of Harris Sugar Kelp Infused Gin (750ml)
Top Pick!
The concept of building a new distillery in this remote place isn't straightforward, but founder Anderson "Burr" Bakewell believed the unique spirit of this special island could be captured quite literally in a bottle. The rare and elusive spirit of the Isle of Harris, which had drawn a special type of soul to it, was dwindling. The population slowly diminished, drawn away by modernity and the promise of prosperity on the mainland. Burr Bakewell gathered a group of like-minded individuals, who believed that the Isle still had much to give its people and ...

100 points Spirit Journal: "JCB Gin is enhanced by the native flora that grows in the Biodynamically farmed vineyard gardens on the Boisset property. Dandelion, chamomile, lemon balm, and more than 40 other botanicals (including 30 organic plants) are infused into this London Dry–style gin. Essence of sunflower, lilacs, and verbena come to life on the nose as the liquid, dotted with white pepper and caper berries, melts across the palate. Violets thread through the herbs for a spring garden effect throughout." K&L Notes: Special Order Only! Will take 3-...

Augustin Guendelain Maya was one of Melate's first suppliers. He's been described as a mad scientist and is renowned as the local agave botanist. His extreme attention to detail, noting the subtle but significant reactions and minute physiological differences between seemingly identical flora, is truly remarkable. Augustin feels he was called to make mezcal and his connection to the land and the plants that give this product its soul is undeniable. Those who visit his small palenque in Miahuatlan will quickly see that he's profoundly fulfilled by working...

1998 Inchgower 22 Year Old "Sovereign" K&L Exclusive Single Sherry Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
A Diageo blending workhorse, Inchgower is a principal component (along with Blair Athol) of the Bell’s blend which we sadly don’t see here in the United States. Due to a cloudy wort and a slightly unusual middle cut that runs from 70% all the way down to 55% in the spirits run, Inchgower tends towards the fuller spicier side of things and away from the high-toned fruits found early in the spirits run. Couple that with 22 years in a refill sherry butt and we’ve got a decadent spicy whisky on our hands with the mellowness of long aging. A wonderful combina...

2000 Jacopo Poli "Vintage" Barrique Grappa (750ml) (Cannot ship- in store pick up only)
Back In Stock!
The presitigous Jacopo Poli distillery, located in Schiavon outside of the city of Bassano del Grappa, is one of Italy's premier artisan distillery. While the distillery has made its name distilling ultra elegant and nuanced single varietal Grappa, it is this exceptional product that seperates them from some of Italy's other top producers. Indeed, this exceptional aged Grappa transcends the category completely. First distilled in 1989, an expression of Toni Poli's personal style as a distiller and lover of Grappa, only 9 barrique were produced each year....

Don Israel’s palenque is situated in the picturesque village of Temelac Guerrero. Just 45 minutes outside of the city of Taxco. His exceptional mezcal has been reserved exclusively for local consumption until very recently and his style is completely uninfluenced by the tastes or demands of outsiders. Don Israel typically has a few offerings on hand, like Guerro’s most popular cupreata varietal, but it is the sacatoro varietal that is truly unique to this area. The endemic sacatoro makes exceptional and unique mezcal whose prowess cannot be overstated. T...

David Herrera Rivera lives in Santa María Ixcatlán in the Canada region of Northwest Oaxaca. On the boarder with La Mixteca, this tight-knit family not only live together but also work together with cooperation and cohesiveness being the foundation of their personal and professional endeavors. Despite being just 25 years old Don David assumed the roll as the "boss" working with his parents and siblings to craft extremely traditional mezcals from local varietals. As wild papalometl gets harder and harder to find in Ixcatlán, the batch sizes get smaller an...

Domaine Hubert "K&L Exclusive" Pays d'Auge Vieux Calvados (750ml)
Top Pick!
Astrid Hubert has taken over her family's apple distillation business with a desire to bring Calvados into the modern generation. She wants to make her estate's brandy more fruit-forward and more feminine in style -- "After all, I am a woman!" she told us during our visit in 2013. There has never been an apple brandy this good on the American market at such an affordable price. The juicy apple flavor simply bursts on the first sip, the fruit taking front and center stage as the cider-like acidity helps balance out the richness of the wood. Try making a J...

Zubrowka Bison Grass Polish Vodka (1L)
Back In Stock!
90-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Superb/Highly Recommended; One of Top 50 Spirits of 2009* Smells nicely of sweet grass, paraffin, acetate and wheat crackers; aeration bolsters the aromatic impressions of the first round and adds a subtle spiciness (nutmeg?) that complements the grassy quality. Palate entry teems with zesty, spicy, medicinal and grassy flavors; midpalate flavors come off chocolaty and milky, with disparate background tastes of egg cream and green pepper." (07/2009) K&L Notes: At the restaurant where I worked as a student in London, the ...

Escubac Sweetdram is a spirited revival of a defunct liqueur style from the 1700s, reimagined it for modern drinkers. The result is a drier, more relevant aperitif that can sipped like a nice whisky, mixed with tonic, or poured as a base in cocktails. The proprietary Escubac recipe took over 18 months to design and balance at the Sweetdram workshop in East London. From a 72 hour maceration of 14 botanicals, including caraway, cardamom, nutmeg and citrus, the resulting formula is slowly distilled on the antique stills at Distillerie Combier in France. The...

The exceptional Ford's Gin is one of the most versatile London Drys on the market. Distilled at the exceptional Thames Distillery by master distiller Charles Maxwell and the famous Simon Ford. They start with a base of Italian juniper and coriander seed, and the recipe is expanded thoughtfully to include bitter oranges, lemon and grapefruit peel. Subtle jasmine and orris add a soft floral quality, while spicy angelica root and cassia bark give it some structure. I've always noted a smidge of cucumber, but the distiller won't cop to it. Anyway, the mixtur...

1994 New Yarmouth 26 Year Old "Golden Devil" Single Barrel Jamaican Rum (750ml)
Top Pick!
The ultra-delicious bottling from the New Yarmouth Estate is one of the rarest rum offerings we've ever had the pleasure of selling. The New Yarmouth Distillery is not one most rum lovers are familiar with, although anyone who has crawled down the Jamaican rum rabbit hole has certainly tasted it. The New Yarmouth Estate was established sometime in the early 1700s and had an extensive sugar cultivation operation. Now the estate, located in Clarendon parish, is home to the bulk of the J. Wray & Nephew production. Not a small distillery, but also one that v...

Michel Couvreur "Peaty Overaged" K&L Exclusive Malt Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
The chance to work with Michel Couvreur on a special K&L whisky project was something that David and I had been dreaming of for years. We had heard the stories. This crazy Belgian had moved to Burgundy in the '60s, carved out a wine cellar inside a mountain, only to fill it with Scottish single malt whisky instead of Pinot Noir. He set up camp in Beaune, ordered new-make spirit to be delivered by tanker, and drove down to Jerez himself, selecting his own sherry butts to ensure the finest quality casks for his contracted spirit. Unfortunately, Michel Couv...

1988 Ardmore 31 Year "Hunter Laing Old & Rare Heritage Platinum Selection" Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Top Pick!
Only 60 bottles will be available of this intriguing, old Highland peater. Distilled in April 1998 and bottled in 2019 at 50.2% ABV without dilution or chill filtration, the Platinum Selection represents the very best of what Hunter Laing has to offer. These casks are the bottler's finest stocks and are selected not only for their exquisite rarity but also their unbelievable quality. Built in 1898 by William Teacher, the Ardmore Distillery is one of the Highlands' best kept secrets, offering only an extremely limited selection bottled by the distillery, ...

96-100 points Wine Enthusiast: "Luscious; an intensely toasty bouquet with scents of hemp, charcoal, cigarette, paraffin, charcoal and honey. The toasty core flavor is highlighted at palate entry; the midpalate focuses on the brown sugar, honey, oaky vanilla and holiday spice qualities. Semisweet finish, with tastes of nougat, candied walnut and dark honey." (06/2006)

1993 Glen Keith 28 Year Old "Old Malt Cask" K&L Exclusive Single Barrel Cask Strength Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
This is the oldest Glen Keith we’ve ever seen here at K&L. In part this is because the distillery was mothballed in 1999 and didn’t reopen until 2013. This makes any of the new spirit still too young for most single malt bottlings and any of the pre-closure spirit is pretty much long gone due to its use in the 100 Pipers and Passport blends that are extraordinarily popular in Asia and Latin America respectively. Owned today by Chivas (Pernod Ricard) the distillery has virtually no official bottlings so it’s a relatively unknown distillery to most drinker...

1988 Tormore 31 Year "Hunter Laing Old & Rare Heritage Platinum Selection" Single Sherry Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Top Pick!
This lovely Oloroso Sherry butt from the Tormore Distillery was distilled in May of 1988 and bottled in 2019. A sister to the wonderful barrel we purchased last year, this time bottled in 700ml, it represents one of the best values in old, sherried malt available in Scotland today. The Tormore Distillery and its iconic copper roof is one of Speyside's newer distillers. Built in 1958, great care was taken with the design of the exterior, unlike at other distilleries of the period. The distillery was expanded in 1984 and can produce upward of 3.7 million l...

2010 Dailuaine 10 Year Old "Sovereign" K&L Exclusive Single Sherry Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
This first Scotch container of 2021 sees a trio of exceptional 10-12-year-old sherry aged malts. Sherried Dailuaine has been a fan favorite at K&L for years and we’ve sold 16 different bottlings over the last decade. Given the long-standing relationship many of our customers have with these bottlings, we don’t foresee this being around long. A classic Diageo distillery—Dailuaine has a sizable capacity upwards of 5 million liters a year—yet is rarely seen as an official release. Stylistically it sits somewhere between Clynelish and Blair Athol and shows b...

Laphroaig "Cairdeas Bottled 2021" PX Sherry Cask Strength Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (750ml)
New!
The official Friends of Laphroaig bottling is always one of the highlights on the Scotch calendar every year. This year it's a little late due to the giant mess that is world shipping - but it's finally here. The much awaited PX Sherry cask edition. The Cairdeas 2021 is triple matured. The first maturation takes place in 1st fill American oak ex-Bourbon barrels, the second quarter casks, and the 3rd and final barrel this whisky sees is European oak Hogsheads previously filled with unctuous PX sherry. The sweetness from the PX is beautifully balanced by t...

This relatively small négociant firm is located just outside Courrensan, just within the Bas-Armagnac limits. The firm was started in 1935 by Madame Jeanne Goudoulin who, following the unexpected death of her husband Joseph from injuries sustained during the First World War, began selling his Armagnacs directly from the family property, Domaine de Bigor. As the years passed, the Goudoulin Armagnacs began reaching a larger audience, making their way to the Basque coast and Bordeaux. In 1964, Jeanne's grandson Christian Faure entered the business and began...

The enigmatic Corner Creek brand was bottled for years at a famous little family owned distillery in Bardstown. Recently the brand moved production to the Kentucky Artisan Distillery in Crestwood production and relaunched with this new 10 year old expression. The source is a secret, but there's no question that Corner Creek has the connections to find some seriously delicious bourbon and this new expression is leaps and bounds ahead of the previous no-age-stated Corner Creek. They've selected their choicest stocks for this product and bottled them withou...

1994 Tomatin 25 Year Old "Hunter Laing Old & Rare" Single Sherry Butt Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Top Pick!
Tomatin is a fascinating distillery with a unique history and many incarnations, from starting as a bulk blender and supplier and eventually shifting to a steadfast focus on quality single malt production. From the early 1900s through the mid '70s, Tomatin grew continuously. They added stills multiple times as demand for their product increased exponentially. By 1975, they were the largest single malt production facility in Scotland. Sadly due to market forces they never operated at their full capacity, and by the mid '80s the massive bust in the market ...

Ragnaud-Sabourin "Fontevieille #35" K&L Exclusive Cognac (750ml)
Top Pick!
The vineyards of Ragnaud-Sabourin stretch far over the hills in Grande Champagne, 33 hectares of Ugni Blanc, with a bit of Folle Blanche, as far as the eye can see. This estate is known throughout France for having the goods, and we couldn't have been more impressed after visiting the property. Today the estate is run by Annie Sabourin, who is the daughter of the late Marcel Ragnaud, and she makes sure every drop lives up to the property's reputation. The collection of Ragnaud-Sabourin selections we tasted were spellbinding and easily one of the most pol...

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "A versatile must-have for mixing cocktails, look for pleasing vanilla, maple and a hint of dried cherry. The finish is long and drying, with plenty of baking spice notes. (KN)" (07/2016) Whisky Advocate: "Rittenhouse packs lots of corn, offering a different profile than those higher-rye whiskeys from Indiana. Straight from the glass burst caramel, campfire smoke, and vanilla, with hints of dill weed and Herbs de Provence. Ripe in flavor, it shows slight mint from the rye and a complex voyage of herbs with a touch of chocolat...

96-100 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aroma is dry, clean, and grainy, with background notes of parchment and litchi; later passes offer semisweet, mildly smoky/ashy scents of charcoal and smoldering embers. Palate entry is firm, moderately oily, bittersweet; at midpalate concentrated and spicy grain flavors mingle adroitly with the smoky, sap- and resin-sweet birch-charcoal filtering influence. 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Sweet-tasting and citrusy, this has a light herbal aroma. 1995 GlenAllachie 19 Year Old "Hart Brothers Finest Collection" Single American Oak Barrel Cask Strength Unchillfiltered Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Top Pick!
The Hart family have been licensed victuallers and publicans in Paisley on the outskirts of Glasgow since the 18th century, but it was in 1964 that brothers Iain & Donald Hart incorporated the company as Wine & Spirit Wholesalers and Scotch Whisky Blenders. Alistair Hart, who still selects casks for this special line today, came on as Chief Blender in 1975. His charge at the time was to secure and select the finest casks of single malt that were not readily available to the market. Their commitment to excellence is second to none in the industry and they...

Calumet Farm 15 Year Old "Single Rack Black" Small Batch Unchillfiltered Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)
Top Pick!
The new Calumet Farm 15 Year is an unusual release from this upstart, Kentucky-based brand. Both the highest proof and highest age for the brand to date, this is great old Kentucky bourbon bottled without chill filtration. The "Single Rack" is a reference to source of the batch being from a single rack in the brickhouse, meaning all barrels were aged in the same center part of the warehouse, which lends to longer aging as compared to the top floors. Calumet Farm is the most famous horse farm in Kentucky (having bred and trained two Triple Crown winners a...

I first stumbled across the Verde Momento at an excellent bar called Guilty in Guadalajara. This city is vibrant, complex, and cosmopolitan, filled with excellent food and highbrow cocktail stops along side old school saloons, bad tourist traps and well worn corners where some of the world's finest tacos are slung. When I saw the wild label across the bar, I imagined that this must be some new boutique-y, ultra-limited mezcal, but when the bartender reached for it to prepare my cocktail, I realized that this might just be something more attainable. One of two Paplometls we purchased from Melate in very contrasting styles. This one from Maestro Don Erubiel is from Zapotitlan in La Mixteca; this culturally distinct area encompasses parts of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Puebla. The palenque requires a harrowing six hour drive on mountainous roads to reach, but the quality of the mezcal is well worth the wait. This extremely delicious batch of Papalometl uses wild harvest agave between 8 to 13 years of age. Roasted underground and shredded in a gasoline powered mill, the long slow fermentation lasts 12 days be...

The rare pulquero varietal is typically used for the traditional production of the local Pulque beverage, a slightly sour, sweet agave nectar beer. These plants grow very large and take 14 to 16 years to mature. The exceptional distillery Senor Felix Hernandez Ruiz produced this one in July of 2021. It was roasted for 4 days underground before 1 day of dry fermentation and 3 days in a wooden vat with well water. Double-distilled on copper pots, this fresh pulquero exemplifies the rustic green character of this rarely used agave.

One of the most distinctive malts in all of Scotland. Craigellachie utilizes worm tubs with a very low copper content that, in combination with very long fermentation times, contributes to a rare and desirable sulfurous trait in whisky (not to be confused with the strong and undesirable sulfurous notes occasionally found in older sherry butts that were treated to prevent spoilage). The end result is a pungent aroma that when young is often described as meaty or like boiled cabbage, but when matured works its way into complex sweet fragrances such as pine...

Four Pillars "Faultline" K&L Exclusive Australian Gin (750ml)
Top Pick!
When our first batch of Four Pillars Faultline Gin ran out, we were all devastated. Initially conceived as a one-off project, the FP Faultline turned out to be one of our most popular gins ever, both among staff and our customers. After months of trying to find a substitute, we conceded that the first go-around was just too good and needed to be remade to the exact same specs. The initial batch was put together by David Driscoll, K&L Buyer Emeritus, wanting to build on the clean citrus notes and the creamy texture that are the calling cards of Four Pilla...

The Foursquare distillery has become one of the most sought-after and talked-about producers of rum anywhere in the world. Since the distillery opened in 1996, they've steadily made a name for themselves selling unadulterated rums at high proof under the "Exceptional Cask" range. We've been lucky enough to find a few single casks, which the distillery does not typically sell, through our various bottlers, but it's been some time since our partners in Scotland have offered us any. In fact, we were able to sell another at the start of the Foursquare craze,...

They've partnered to create a completely unique vodka unlike any other. Distilled on a traditional Aquavit still, botanicals are infused into the spirit prior to distillation. It's not a traditional flavored vodka as infusions are incredibly restrained and subtle, but you can't miss the complex accents which highlight the incredible quality of the wheat based distillate. Expect marigolds and chamomile flo...

On the palate, look for well-balanced notes of citrus peel, cedar and oak, and a gentle waft of smoke. An astringent sensation on the finish sets the mouth watering, leading to a full-bodied, almost oily texture. Recommended for sipping neat. 2001 Jamaica's Top Pots (Hampden) 19 Year Old "Golden Devil" Single Barrel Jamaican Rum (750ml)

This incredible cask from the distillery in Trelawny parish can no longer bear its famous name, but that doesn't change the stupendous quality of this unbelievable spirit. One of the most traditional distillers in the world, they've not changed much here in the last several hundred years. The distillery features a number of different levels of rum called "marques", distinguished by their ester levels. This espadin (A. Angustifolia) mezcal is the perfect place to start for anyone looking to explore the world of quality mezcal or for a relatively inexpensive option for your mezcal based cocktails. A rich texture makes this a delightful sipper or stout component in a mezcal variant of the Last Word.

Glengoyne is all about patience. Everything they do is slow. The picturesque little distillery sits on the border of the Highlands and Lowlands. In fact, the road that divides the distillery and its warehouses IS the border. They sport some of the longest fermentation times in all of Scotland and some of the slowest stills as well. These longer processes coupled with a massive amount of available copper lead to an unabashedly fruity and super clean spirit. The real magic of Glengoyne is in the fact that it retains enough stuffing to play perfectly with h...
