The 2023 Riesling Eichberg Grand Cru was picked in three parcels of this Grand Cru, namely Obergrot, Oberer Stribicher and Niedereich, from vines that are, on average, over 40 years old. Lovely flint plays around hints of green citrus. The smooth, cool flow of limestone stretches out with aromatic citrus, bright and brisk yet so gentle, soothing and cooling, bone dry and impeccably balanced. (Bone-dry)(AK)

The 2025 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese colors its slaty nose with just a suspicion of yellow peach. Lovely concentration on the palate suggests a touch of citrus pith that frames this exquisitely pure and brilliant peach juiciness. Without any weight at all, this carries off immense concentration. Takes only a millisecond, once you taste the wine, for the mouth to flood with juicy lime flavours plus splashes of tropical fruits. Totally delicious now, but has the structure to develop well into the next decade.

The 2024 Riesling Vandenberg is a potent, explosive wine that is a dead ringer for a Mosel GG. Intensely ripe fruit and potent minerality punch with serious intent. There’s an almost prickly sensation here, dancing across the tongue with salty, crystalline energy. This is a densely packed, gorgeous, complete white of total class. The 2025 Riesling Veldenzer Elisenberg Spätlese immediately shines with lemon purity that is surrounded by blossom and creaminess. Lemon balm also adds a lovely nuance of freshness. The palate then turns fully toward white and yellow peach, with immense juiciness, with elegant concentration and a perfect contour of lemon zest. What purity, brightness and light-footed freshness. Yes, sweetness is here, deep inside the core, but it is citrus that sets the tone. (Sweet) (AK)

Grown on vines with an average age of 45 years. Complex aromatics lead to a complex palate. Anise, slate, lime and wet stone characters make a persuasive, and distinctive, pitch at quality. There's flavour here, but it also feels fine-boned and delicate; it has an elegance about it. (CM)

The 2025 Riesling Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Auslese was made with around a fifth of the fruit botrytized. Enticing glimpses of candied Mirabelle come with a lovely contour of citrus zest. The palate turns this into vivid, lemon-intense peach jelly, with a beautifully supple, rounded and juicy sweetness that lends more pliability before the lemon kicks in again on the finish. The 2025 Riesling Veldenzer Elisenberger Kabinett is a Richter monopole that mixes alluvial deposits, slate and quartzite. Smokiness combines with crushed herb lift that has something of deadnettle. The palate is juicy and energetic and mixes its profound stony flavor with that deadnettle vibe and juicy, ripe white peach. Lemon frames it all and makes for a lively, joyful wine. (Off-dry) (AK)

A well-rounded, mellow and smooth white with stone fruit, blanched almonds and some white flowers. Medium-bodied, with a succulent core of baked lemons and a salivating finish.

There's a profound mineral tension, with aromas of white pepper, flint and some earth. The palate is tense and nervy, with finely structured phenolics rounding out the sweetness from residual sugar, leading to a drying finish. The nerviness backed by structure on the palate has made this an immense, detailed wine for the cellar. (RM)

It's no exaggeration to describe this as one of the southern hemisphere's greatest Rieslings, as good as anything produced in Australia. Fermented in concrete and 30% amphoras, it's a complex, layered, earthy white with aromas of jasmine and chamomile, lots of extract and concentration, flavours of lime, mezcal and petrichor and an intense, tapering finish. Bid on this 6-half-bottle lot of 1976 & 1975 Joseph Phelps Selected Late Harvest Napa Valley Johannisberg Riesling (375ml). In previous eras of California winemaking, Johannisberg Riesling was commonly seen on labels. It was likely for some sake of marketing, as Schloss Johannisberg was historically the most famous estate in Germany and the first to plant Riesling exclusively. The Johannisberg eventually fell away in California, but over the years a few producers did produce successful botrytised dessert wines in the method of German Beerenauslese.

The 2025 Riesling Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett comes with alluring slate smokiness that somehow hints at distant fruit. The palate then unpacks that lovely peach, that trembling salty stone, that wonderful citrus aroma that holds as much lemon as mandarin and some leaves of dried lemon balm. Charles Baur is a family-run estate in Eguisheim, one of Alsace’s historic wine villages. Its 2024 Cuvée Charles is made from Riesling under the Alsace appellation, whose vineyards extend along the eastern foothills of the Vosges in northeastern France.

Super focused, sleek and cool in spite of its considerable concentration, this Alsace dry riesling needs several years of bottle age to open up and reveal the aromatic treasures that are currently under lock and key. Only hints of lemon and plum showing right now. Very long, complex and delicate finish with so much energy. Better after 2024.

The 2025 Riesling Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Grosses Gewächs is from vines that share a birth year with Helmut Dönnhoff, i.e. 1949. They are rooted in shale. Only very slight flint accompanies the luminous lemon that becomes even more concentrated and clean-cut on the stony palate. This is utter zestiness, like a well of freshness, a source of light, a measure of purity and clarity. It is ultra-crystalline, ultra-straight, ultra-steely, ultra-delicious. (Bone-dry) (AK)

The 2025 Riesling Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Spätlese still has a slight vestige of flintiness on the nose. The palate is a picture of dripping, ripe and juicy yellow peach flesh, beautifully sweet, wonderfully tempered with lemon. Very cool and lemony, with plenty of garden herb aromas, this is a very sleek and focused dry riesling that’s barely medium-bodied. Very crisp finish with some herbal and green apple flavors. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Gigantic concentration, elegance and finesse. The smokiness floats like a cloud over the deep dark waters of this unique wine. The spiciness is so delicate and fascinating, and although the texture is super silky, the dark minerality gives this an almost supernatural intensity in the finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. The 2022 Riesling Heiligenstein is from core parcels of the site, where cool Waldviertel air meets the warm Pannonian influence. This 2022 vintage is the first where the Lyra- and Guyot-trained vines were co-harvested and co-fermented. The nose has a subtle note of cypress, with a touch of smokiness and a suspicion of green citrus peel. The palate adds a riper notion of juicy white peach, but remains framed with tingling citrus. Both elements together result in immense juiciness, showing a svelte exuberance that, for now, skips over stony minerality, which will take time to reveal itself. The 2025 Riesling Brauneberger Juffer Riesling Kabinett shimmers with tender tangerine amidst its smoky slate savor. The palate, too, plunges into this lovely ripe citrus juiciness that carries just a little pithiness, all aligned to salty stone. (Medium) (AK)

Tart lemon has an edge of softness reminiscent of a fresh Mirabelle tart. The palate of this wine majors on bright lemon juiciness with mouthwatering efficiency. The 2022 Riesling 'D' leads on the nose with cut lime and lemon oil, wet chalk and citrus pith, and white flowers emerge on the palate. The vines were planted in 1979 and are the oldest vines in Marlborough. The acidity is dry and fine; it spools through the fruit and is woven as threads through the phenolics. This is a gorgeous wine, crystalline and chalky, with three grams of residual per liter. 12.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. (EL)
