Named “Vignes de 1940,” this 2024 Gamay comes from Domaine Jean-Michel Dupré under the Beaujolais-Villages appellation. The designation identifies wines from qualifying communes in the northern portion of Beaujolais, where Gamay is the defining red grape.
This wine comes entirely from a single plot that sits right at the foot of the famous Côte du Py within Morgon. The vines are, as you might expect from the name, 88 years old, and lend the wine fabulous concentration of fruit! Today, it's drinking wonderfully, hinting at what makes folks think of Morgon as Beaujolais' most serious Cru with a deep core of medium dark fruit, excellent structure around the edges, and plenty of freshness through the middle. Delicious!
The 2024 Côte de Brouilly (Imported by Kermit Lynch), which, as the name suggests, is a US exclusivity, has an elegant bouquet with ample redcurrant and raspberry fruit, a touch floral in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry. Fresh and vibrant, a touch of oyster shell tinctures the red fruit on the finish. This will be difficult to resist once it lands on US shores.(NM)

The 2024 Gamay Noir Baytree Lane Vineyard is from a first and perhaps last-time source for the grapes, a site also sourced by Tom Darling that overlooks the town of Sonoma. White pepper, raspberry, and layers of earth form a delicious, light-bodied core that’s aromatically floral and inviting and ultimately delicious. Foot-stomped and 100% whole-cluster fermented, 30% of that carbonic, it aged 11 months in neutral French oak. This is a delightfully quaffable wine that’s still complex and interesting, well worth your time. Drink now through 2034. (VB)

Composed of 100% Gamay, the 2025 Fabien Collonge Beaujolais Rosé is a lot of fun. It’s chock full of strawberry preserves, cherries, rose petals, and zero pretense. Pair with meals that could use a sip of levity or enjoy during relaxed afternoons in the sun with friends or a good book. This would also make a perfect base for a lively rosé wine spritzer—pour over ice, add a handful of raspberries or sliced strawberries, float with sparkling mineral water, and garnish with a citrus sliver of choice. Not sweet enough? Add a ½ oz. shot of Italicus or St. Germain liqueur. Cheers!
Before the famous windmill gave Moulin-à-Vent its name in 1936, the wines from this hillside were sold as "Thorins," and the slope was so well regarded that the village of Romanèche added it to its own name. Les Thorins is still the heart of the appellation, a bank of pink granite shot through with manganese where Gamay stops being the easygoing grape of the family and starts behaving like something a bit more serious and contemplative from the Côte d'Or. Lucien Lardy ferments his Gamay in whole bunches the traditional Beaujolais way, but with one twist: a grid pins the fruit down under the fermenting juice, so the wine keeps all the violets-and-crushed-berry perfume the method is famous for and picks up the color, grip and depth that most carbonic wines never get. 2024 was a patience-testing year in Beaujolais, with a rainy August and a cool September that pushed picking back, and the growers who kept their vineyards clean were rewarded with wines of unusual lift and crunch. Fortunately for us, this is just one of those wines! The 2024 Lardy Moulin-à-Vent leans bright and red-fruited: crushed raspberry and violets abound, with a lick of iron and cracked pepper, and a juicy, palate thrilling finish. Truly a delicious bottling, and a stunning value in Moulin-à-Vent!
The 2024 Morgon Côte du Py has a little more bandwidth and complexity compared to the Corcelette, a mélange of red and black fruit, black tea leaves and crushed stone. The palate is fresh and lively on the entry, a Côte du Py with a skip in its step and an assiduous sprinkling of white pepper towards the harmonious finish. Excellent.(NM)
I love a wine that's easy to love, and this is absolutely one of them. True to form, Lucien Lardy's 2024 Fleurie is wonderfully aromatic and floral on the nose, and on the palate, has a purity of fruit and wonderful energy that makes it oh-so-loveable, and oh-so-crushable. Throw a light chill on this, or serve it up for Thanksgiving!
Reserved aromas of black plum, cocoa powder, red raspberry and black tea open on the nose that sees additional notes of violet blossom. The palate abounds with red fruit elevating grippy tannins that relax slightly on the finish. Pair with beef stew, carnitas tacos and chicken kebob.(RS)
Dry, crisp, fresh and incredibly fragrant, this sparkling wine is a terrific bargain. The good news is there are around 4,000 cases of it, although I do not know how much is imported by Kermit Lynch...This cuvee may qualify as the 'wine bargain of the year.' A Champagne-like sparkling rose from the largely forgotten area of Bugey (which only received appellation status in 2009), this low alcohol (8%) offering is made from 90% Gamay and 10% Poulsard (an indigenous grape of the region). Fabien Collonge is a young winemaker from Beaujolais. We met him on our recent trip to the region and he presented us with a rosé of Gamay that absolutely knocked our socks off. There is no pretense in his approach to winemaking; his goals are to create terroir-driven wines that are both fun and enjoyable. This is a wine that's fresh, crisp, and clean on the palate with a supple weight and pure flavors of fresh strawberries and spice. This is the affordable rosé you need a case of for the warm months, and maybe a few bottles for the more pleasant fall evenings as well.
Jean Foillard is based in Villié-Morgon and is closely associated with the traditional, low-intervention revival that reshaped modern Beaujolais. His work was influenced by local scientist and négociant Jules Chauvet, an advocate for native-yeast fermentations and minimal manipulation. This 2024 Beaujolais-Villages is made from Gamay, the region’s defining red grape.
This wine has a savory core that is fleshed out by fruit. The wine seduces from the start with enticing aromas of muddled plum and dried field grass that hug cassis. The palate is layered and complex in the best of ways with youthful tannins that have purpose and vision. Simply gorgeous.(RS)
Gamay is historically associated with France’s Beaujolais region, while this 2025 Vin Vif bottling from Union Sacré places the grape in California’s Santa Maria and Santa Barbara area. It offers a domestic expression of a variety with deep roots in French wine history.
Rich black cherry and dried field grass aromas weave in freshly-tilled earth on the nose. The palate brings in layered-yet-measured red-and-black fruit flavors that soothe and fill out the finish. (RS)
The 2025 Raisins Gaulois comes from the youngest vines, which produce a lot of fruit. Pale red in colour. Red cherries and a touch of Clementine burst on the simple but attractive nose. The palate is nicely balanced, with pliant tannins, open-knit and generous, with an easy-going, tealeaf-tinged finish. Just add barbecue.(NM)
Gamay Noir is the red grape at the heart of Beaujolais, but this 2025 Vin Vif bottling places it in a distinctly Californian setting. Produced by Union Sacré as a rosé from the Central Coast’s Santa Maria and Santa Barbara area, it offers a fresh regional perspective on this historic French variety.
Kermit Lynch went looking for Fleurie in the late 1970s because people kept telling him about one vineyard, Les Moriers, and when he climbed to the top of it he found Michel Chignard’s house with the winery underneath. The Chignards have farmed it for four generations, as tenants until they finally managed to buy the walled heart of it, the Clos des Moriers, and Michel’s son Cédric has run the domaine since 2007 with his father still living on the property. Les Moriers is an arrowhead-shaped parcel on steep south-facing granite that juts right down into Moulin-à-Vent, and the name comes from the mulberry trees (“mûriers”) that once grew there. The vines are old gobelet Gamay, averaging sixty to seventy years, planted at a dense 10,000 per hectare, and the whole eight hectares gets the same treatment: hand harvest, whole-bunch fermentation on native yeasts in a mix of steel, cement and big old wooden tanks, then 13 months in old foudres. The result is what made the site famous in the nineteenth century: the violets and rose-petal perfume of Fleurie sitting on the stony, tannic frame of Moulin-à-Vent. It’s a Fleurie that ages like a Moulin-à-Vent, and if you want proof the site is charmed, it has been spared by hailstorms that flattened the vineyards around it more than once.
Moulin-à-Vent takes its name from the historic windmill overlooking this celebrated appellation, one of Beaujolais’s ten crus. Domaine Diochon’s 2024 Vieilles Vignes is a Gamay from this specifically delimited cru, linking old-vine sourcing with one of the region’s most recognizable landmarks and place names.
The 2022 Morgon “Côte du Py” from Jean-Michel Dupré is an fine example of both this excellent vintage and this superb terroir. The bouquet is bright and nicely red fruity this year, wafting from the glass in a mix of cherries, pomegranate, sweet cranberry, stony soil tones, peonies, gamebird and a topnote of distant bonfire. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, red fruity and nicely structured out of the blocks, with a good core of fruit, fine soil transparency, fine-grained tannins and lovely length and grip on the still fairly primary finish. This is still fairly adolescent reticent and deserves some time in the cellar to properly relax structurally and blossom, but it will be a fine bottle once it is truly ready to drink. Touraine has held appellation status since 1939, encompassing vineyards across the central Loire Valley around the historic city of Tours. Clos Roussely’s 2023 “Canaille” is a red wine made from Gamay, a permitted variety within the Touraine appellation and one with a longstanding presence in this part of the Loire.
Jean-Étienne Chermette’s 2024 les Trois Roches is a stunning young wine and will no doubt be one of the greatest wines produced in this outstanding vintage. The wine comes in at a classic thirteen precent octane and just exudes purity and class on the nose, wafting from the glass in a complex blend of sweet cassis, dark berries, grilled pigeon, a beautiful base of dark soil tones, French roast, woodsmoke, a touch of whole clusters, peonies and a gentle hint of oak from its sojourn in older Burgundy barrels. On the palate the wine is deep, pure, full-bodied and sappy at the core, with great soil signature and grip, ripe, seamlessly-integrated tannins, impeccable balance and a very long, complex and superb finish. (Drink between 2026-2075)

100% whole cluster: this captivating Gamay comes from the upper slopes of Escolle, on the rockiest soils with flecks of granite. A Gamay that shows intrigue and intensity, with the elegant, fresh blue fruit lurking in the background: white pepper, crushed stone, and upright, juicy, red berries. Refinement meets a sort of sauvage rusticity. Shows incredible potential for the variety here in the SLH.
Brouilly is the largest of Beaujolais’ ten cru appellations by vineyard area, taking its name from Mont Brouilly. Its vineyards surround the hill, whose slopes form the separate Côte de Brouilly appellation. The 2023 Nicolas Potel Domaine de Briante Brouilly is a Gamay red from this southern Beaujolais cru.

The 2024 Morgon Corcelette has a wonderful, characterful bouquet with brambly red fruit, hints of sous-bois and wilted rose petal. Impressive delineation. The palate is fresh and vibrant with gentle grip on the entry. Fine structure, a little powdery in texture, with a slightly herbaceous, tea-leaf finish, but focused. Very classy, though one I would broach over the next four to six years.(NM)
Founded by winemaker Grant Coulter and Renée Saint-Amour, Hundred Suns is a Willamette Valley producer based in Oregon. This 2025 red is made from Gamay Noir, the grape historically associated with France’s Beaujolais region and now cultivated by a growing number of Oregon wineries.
Winery Notes: "Produced in traditional Cru Beaujolais style, this wine was fermented 100% whole cluster and aged in neutral French oak barrels to keep it fresh and lively. This majority of this Gamay is grown in the tiny 1/3- acre vineyard planted in winemaker Erik Miller’s backyard. Farmed with organic principles, this vineyard is part of the family. Located next to Santa Rosa Creek and within the Fountaingrove AVA, the climate is cool enough to maintain the grape’s natural acidity and allow for long hang time and slow ripening. We also source fruit from Sonoma Mountain, which contributes color and structure to the juicy Fountaingrove fruit."
The 2024 Gamay Noir El Dorado is terrific. It offers a bit more mid-palate richness than some previous years, which actually works quite well here. Crushed flowers, vibrant red-toned fruit, cedar, tobacco and mint linger. This is one of my favorite recent vintages of the Gamay. Vineyard sites are Barsotti (75%) and Witters (25%). (AG)

A quite rich but not overwhelming red with strawberry marmalade, licorice and dark chocolate on the nose. The palate is structured and broad, with a medium body and a powdery texture to its tannins. Impressive depth and length. Drink or hold.
The 2024 Morgon Château-Gaillard has a lovely bouquet, with floral, rose petal scents suffusing the ebullient red berry fruit. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite structured, with tightly wound citrusy black fruit leading to a structured yet detailed, saline finish. Very fine. (Drink between 2028-2037)
So pure, and pristine with wonderful mountain freshness. The black-raspberry fruit is married to cardamon, allspice and cinnamon notes, and all this is wrapped around the firm tannic core. From vines planted in 1965 at the very top of the Cote du Py site. Drink or hold.
Bugey earned appellation status in 2009, recognizing the distinctive vineyards of France’s Ain department between the Jura Mountains and the Alps. Maison Angelot’s 2025 bottling is a red wine made from Gamay, one of the principal red grapes cultivated across this compact, geographically varied wine region.
Based in Villié-Morgon, Domaine Jean Foillard helped renew interest in traditional Beaujolais through whole-cluster fermentation, native yeasts, and restrained sulfur use. This 2024 Fleurie is made from Gamay grown in one of Beaujolais’ ten crus, an appellation named for the village of Fleurie.

The Finger Lakes are defined by deep glacial lakes that moderate the surrounding vineyards’ cool climate. Ria’s 2025 Lake Road Vineyard bottling brings Gamay Noir—best known as the principal red grape of Beaujolais—into a distinctly New York setting, highlighting the variety’s growing reach beyond its historic French home.
Lovely aromas of dried flowers, red cherries, dried herbs and a subtle stemmy note. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, nervy and penetrating, with impressive concentration and attractive, nervy freshness that brings everything together. The finish is long and persistent. From a vineyard planted in 1946 on granite soils. Whole clusters and aged in foudres. Drink now.
A restrained and subtle wine, considering the ripeness of the vintage and the generous body. This has a lot to do with the delicacy of the cherry aromas and spot-on balance. Long, suave finish that is not a jot loud or obvious. Drink or hold.
A traditional Burgundian inspired Passetoutgrain blend of 65% Gamay Noir and 35% Pinot Noir. Fermented in small, open top tanks. Aged entirely in stainless steel to preserve the perfume and freshness of the fruit.

The 2024 Gamay Noir is a total pleasure to the senses, as whiffs of chalk dust and lavender, rose petals, spiced orange rind and crushed blackberries form its bouquet. It is cool-toned and fresh, with tantalizing acidity and crisp wild berry fruit that cascades across the palate. The finish is long and perfumed, with a gentle tannic inflection as hints of citrus fade. (EG)
