Reviewed May 2026Notes
Château Gaillard sits in the northeast corner of Morgon on the Fleurie border, on sand and crumbled granite rather than the blue schist of the Côte du Py, which is why Morgons from here lean toward violets and lift instead of iron. Anita’s parcel is old vines at 250 meters facing south and southeast on poor, friable quartz, and she ferments a mix of whole clusters and destemmed fruit before raising it mostly in cement with a fifth in used Burgundy barrels, just enough to tame the site’s natural richness. The result is a Morgon with deep dark fruit, a faint saline edge and a long clean finish, and it shares the vineyard with Desvignes’s 1920-planted old-vine bottling, which is quite good company for a domaine this young!
