Compass Box "Culver & Sepulveda" K&L Exclusive Limited Edition Scotch Malt Whisky (700ml)
Top Pick!
Compass Box & K&L have always had a special relationship. Since the inception of this special brand 25 years ago, we've seen eye to eye on every aspect of this business. It wasn't until 2011 that we were able to connect with legendary whisky maker John Glasser about the potential to do an exclusive for K&L. We had access to anything back then, but one trophy alluded K&L and exclusive Compass Box. That was until 2015 when John Glaser invited our spirits buying team to select an exclusive blend from their stocks, a now legendary blend of old peated malt an...

Daniel Bouju Tres Vieux "Brut de Fut" K&L Exclusive Premier Cru de Cognac Grand Champagne Cognac 750ml
Top Pick!
The unprecedented Tres Vieux Brut de Fut is one of the most memorable and unique offerings from any producer in Cognac. Bouju is well known for speaking out in the region against the use of additives and has carved out a niche as one of the few Grand Champagne producers willing to offer unfiltered, uncut, full-strength Cognac. This brandy is the house's top offering and represents some of the oldest stocks with a minimum age of 40 years. The color is dark like coffee and when we inquired about that insanely dark color, Bouju explained that long term agin...

There are few opportunities in life to profit so immensely personally while doing so much good publicly. On the heels of a massive win from the International Wine & Spirits Competition for world's best rye, we offer this incredible barrel of rye hand selected by owner and former sommelier Sean Josephs as a tribute to our hardworking friends and neighbors in the hospitality industry who lost their homes in the devasting fires of Los Angeles in early 2025. All the profits from the sale of this cask will be donated to Another Round Another Rally, the except...

Just when you think you've tasted every type of booze known to man, you discover that there are more regionally specific spirits being distilled in places you've never considered. Take Bolivia, where they make a pisco-like spirit called Singani, distilled from Muscat of Alexandria grapes grown high in the Andes mountains. Muscat is an aromatic varietal, known for its fruity and floral character, and the Singani spirit takes on many of the perfumes found in the expressive grape. The result is a clean and vibrant brandy that drinks like something in betwee...

Subtle Spirits 12 Year Old K&L Exclusive Single Barrel #RiK-117 Indiana Straight Rye Whiskey (750ml)
Top Pick!
The wonderful whiskies coming out of Subtle Spirits these days are some of the most intriguing on th emarket today. Very few producers have access to these older stocks of Indiana Rye and even fewer still to those of such high quality. As it turns out, not every MGP barrel is equal. The closest analagous to what's out on the market today in terms of age and style would be the exceptionally rare and soughtafter Rare Character Joust - another 12 year old single barrel Indiana Rye. That whisky retails for $300+ and is extremely difficult to find, trading fo...

Gin Mare is a product we discovered in Scotland, of all places, years ago while searching for single malt. The retailer across the street from our hotel in Edinburgh was featuring the gin in a tasting that evening and we went over to check it out. Distilled in Spain with olives, rosemary, basil, and thyme, it's a savory and truly Mediterranean experience. The herbs never overpower the palate, however, as the balance between them is quite delicate and refined. It's definitely an ideal choice for martinis, paired with olives, of course.

Orphan Barrel's new release is one of the few distillers that's still operatonal in the series. Linkwood Distillery at 18 years old selected and bottled by the owners, is indeed a rarity in this market. Here is the bottlers description, "Hailing from the pristine landscape of the Scottish Highlands, this rare 18-year-olds Single malt Scotch Whisky aged in American Oak honors the storied history of the Linkwood Distillery founded in 1821. Evan Williams 12 Year Old "Red Label - Gold Wax Dip" 101 Proof Kentucky Straight Bourbon (750ml, Japanese Import)
Top Pick!
Here we have it! Bourbon aficionados will know that it's extremely rare to find an age-stated whiskey from Heaven Hill, and that's what makes the Evan Williams 12 Year Old "Red Label" such a discovery. Bottled at 101 proof, it's an amped up version of everything the EW devotees love about this brand. The nose is dominated by classic tones of maple and brown sugar with a little bit of praline and toffee to take things even further into opulence. The rich palate conveys honeyed almonds, butterscotch, candied orange peel, and hints of fresh tobacco leaf. At...

Ragnaud-Sabourin "Fontvieille #35" K&L Exclusive Cognac (700ml)
Top Pick!
The vineyards of Ragnaud-Sabourin stretch far over the hills in Grande Champagne, 33 hectares of Ugni Blanc, with a bit of Folle Blanche, as far as the eye can see. This estate is known throughout France for having the goods, and we couldn't have been more impressed after visiting the property. Today the estate is run by Annie Sabourin, who is the daughter of the late Marcel Ragnaud, and she makes sure every drop lives up to the property's reputation. The collection of Ragnaud-Sabourin selections we tasted were spellbinding and easily one of the most pol...

Daniel Bouju "Royal" Brut De Fut Grand Champagne Cognac (750ml)
Top Pick!
The wonderful Daniel Bouju has become renowned to our customers for his light and ultra fresh "Fine Saveur" offering. But what makes Bouju famous in Europe and around the world are actually his ultra old, unfiltered, cask-strength offerings. The Royal Brut de Fut is one of the most sought-after and well regarded high proof Cognacs made today, but it's been years since we've seen it in California. Nothing is added nor taken away from this high proof blend with a minimum of 15 years of age. It's dark, dry, powerful stuff, but not without a nuanced elegance...

Daniel Bouju "Fines Saveurs" K&L Exclusive Grand Champagne Cognac (750ml)
Top Pick!
Francois Bouju is the man running the show these days at Bouju Cognac. He's incredibly nice, has an encyclopedic knowledge of distillation, taught us a great deal about the region and its spirits, and far exceeded the lofty expectations we had of him going in to our appointment. His vines are planted in rich limestone soils, which helps to preserve acidity in the fruit, and he is a stickler for detail. The reason the Grand Champagne region makes what is considered the best Cognac is because the soil creates grapes that are fully ripe with high acidity le...

Ardnamurchan 7 Year Old (8 Year) "Single Barrel #75" K&L Exclusive Cask Strength Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

The spectacular Ardnamurchan distillery on the far western coast of Scotland is without a doubt one of the top new distillers in Scotland. Owned by Adelphi Distillers Ltd, the famous bottler of high-quality single-cask single malt, they've spared no expense at creating the most sustainable distillery, achieving 2024 "Global Sustainable Distillery of the Year" in the Whisky Magazine's Icon's of Whisky awards. This single cask of cask-strength single malt was filled into a fresh ex-Old Forester bourbon barrel with Ardnamurchan's unpeated malt on February 2...

The Wolves is a creative collaboration based in California. Batch 3 is being sold pre-arrival and will be available for pick up toward the second half of June. The distillery describes it here, "[it] opens dramatically, with a complex blend of orange peel, caramel, and baking spices, with flavors of gingerbread, tobacco, and toasted nuts, all wrapped in a velvety mouthfeel. 92 points Whisky Advocate: "Sweet, with subtle, crisp, nutty oak, then comes fudge, ripe banana, and peach. The overall effect is like eating vanilla ice cream with toffee fudge and hazelnut sprinkles. The structure is thick and physical, the palate sweet and quite fat, with light hints of raspberry, fruit salad. A jag of acidity freshens the delivery on the finish. With water there’s more toffee, and it becomes slightly more yielding, with less oak. For me the gold standard of grain. (DB, Fall 2015)" 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "The name of this whisky ...

The much anticipated new release of Arran 10 Year. This fabulous Island Distillery was built in 1996 and their flagship 10 year has been around since 2006. Now, with the assistance of legendary design firm Stranger & Stranger, they've released this wonderful whisky with a completely new look and flavor. Arran is distilled in Lochranza at the first legal distillery situated here, despite the island's long history of illicit distillation. The owners have since built a second distillery across the island called Lagg, devoted to peated malt. The gorgeous new...

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "From 'the oldest House in Armagnac' comes a well-balanced sipper that's reminiscent of Bourbon with its deep amber color; its rich, sweet caramel note; and bold finish that tastes of maple-butter sprinkled with clove and cinnamon. (KN)" (12/2012) 93 points Vinous: "Dartigalongue’s XO is burly, with cologne-like aromas, and surprisingly complex for its youth (10-year-old brandies in the blend). Buttery, with flavors of dried plum, candied ginger and walnut, and a spicy finish of clove and cardamom. A Rye drinker’s Armagnac. B...

The exceptional Ford's Gin is one of the most versatile London Drys on the market. Distilled at the exceptional Thames Distillery by master distiller Charles Maxwell and the famous Simon Ford. They start with a base of Italian juniper and coriander seed, and the recipe is expanded thoughtfully to include bitter oranges, lemon and grapefruit peel. Subtle jasmine and orris add a soft floral quality, while spicy angelica root and cassia bark give it some structure. I've always noted a smidge of cucumber, but the distiller won't cop to it. Anyway, the mixtur...

Here's a fabulous follow-up to the exceptionally good 25-year-old unpeated Ardmore that we featured in last year's Whisky Season. This much for typical Ardmore was peated to the usual medium level of around 14 ppm. Of course, this is using highland peat sourced from terrestrial vegetation rather than the Islay peat which is composed of ocean vegetation. Filled into a high-quality 2nd fill ex-bourbon barrel in July of 2009, it was bottled at cask strength of 57% abv without the use of coloring or chillfiltration. The resulting whisky is extremely expressi...

Our friends at Douglas Laing in Glasgow, with whom we do the Old Particular bottlings, have put together a series of regional malt blends that wonderfully showcase the stylistic flavor profiles of Scotlands main whisky producing sectors. Not only are the whiskies accurate reflections of a dying era in Scotch whisky production, they're some of the tastiest and most enjoyable whiskies we've discovered in ages. The Epicurean is the "Lowland" expression that absolutely brims with fresh fruit, sweet barley, and hard candy. It's a barley-rich malt that is like...

This lovely lowland distillery is one of the closest historical distilleries to the city of Glasgow and you might get lucky and see a head of Highland cattle that occasionally graze on the well-manicured lawns if you make the short trek out to Clydebank. The distillery was founded in 1823 and operated continuously until being completely rebuilt in the late 1960s. In 1984, the famed whisky maker Stanley...

Nikka "From The Barrel" Blended Japanese Whisky (750ml)
Top Pick!
94 points Whisky Advocate: "For Nikka From the Barrel, it’s been a long road to Whisky of the Year. This Japanese blend made its U.S. debut in 2018, but its inception dates back more than 30 years. In 1985, Nikka Whisky Distilling Company’s blending team, led by Shigeo Sato, designed this whisky using both malt and grain whiskies produced at Nikka’s Yoichi and Miyagikyo Distilleries. When taking into account the full array of casks—bourbon barrels, sherry butts, refill hogsheads, and more—over 100 different constituent whiskies are enlisted. “From the ...

Expect classic Lowland aromas and a crispy yet robust mouthfeel.

96-100 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smells of ripe grapes, grape must and lead pencil in the initial whiffs; air contact stimulates baking spices, black currants, jasmine, pepper and paraffin. Entry is crisp, tart and intensely ripe; midpalate highlights black grape to maximum concentration. Finishes bittersweet to sweet. *Best Buy* (PP)" (11/2008) K&L Notes: The Jacopo Poli Sarpa is a perfect grappa for those who like a dry, not overly aromatic style that is very rich and complex. Paolo Marolo is widely regarded as one of the best grappa producers in the world. This alembic requires fresh pomace and distills very small quantities much more slowly, but ultimately yields a grappa that is infinitely more pure, complex, and invigorating, with many dimensions of aromas and...
