2023 Zind-Humbrecht Turckheim Gewürztraminer Alsace
Review Date: 04-08-2026
This Gewurztraminer, meaning "perfumed Traminer" or "spiced Traminer," lives up to its name. A powerful nose of jasmine, violet, and lychee gives way to a medium-bodied, dry and aromatic wine. If floral wines are not your bag, I'd swiftly steer you in a different direction. The finish is long and soft, and while the floral nature of the bottle is what some might call heavy-handed, it is otherwise dry and delicate. I found myself craving something warm and rich to go with this. Perhaps a Thai curry? If this wine was a film, it would be Franco Zeffirelli's 'Romeo and Juliet' [1968]--nostalgic, romantic, and full of flowers.
