Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2017 Tor Kenward Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (92RP, 91VN). Wine Advocate: "This is the first time TOR has made a barrel selection from their Oakville vineyards, predominantly Tierra Roja in Oakville East. It is composed of barrels selected to reveal the "red-fruited, softer, juicier side of the Tierra Roja vineyard". Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon comes sashaying out of the glass with open-knit notes of warm red and black plums, kirsch and cassis with wafts of bay leaves, tar, underbrush and tilled soil. Established in 1970, it gained fame after winning the 1976 Judgment of Paris. From the winery: "Exuberant berry flavors interest and please the palate. While the decreased juice to skin ration from this vintage gave us wine with rich varietal character and firm tannins, the addition of Merlot from the same estate vineyard enhanced the layered texture, giving the wine our characteristic supple mouthfeel."

As yet unrated by the critics, this is a top-flight blend that combines Bordeaux varieties with a dash of Tempranillo. Made by French-born vintner Christophe Baron, we're loving it already, though it has the density and structure to evolve for decades.

Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is lighter in color and has a subdued nose at first. After getting the glass spinning, the wine reveals its secrets with sweet oak tones, dark red fruit and wilted red flowers. The Cabernet is juicy with layers of redcurrants and cassis as it shows defined notions of black plum and dark cherry skin in the glass. Full-bodied, the wine bursts with kaleidoscopic sensations, boasting power and precision that shares many of the same key elements of cult Napa Cabernet bottlings and worthy of the coveted triple digits. Vinous: "The 2016 Haut-Brion is quite possibly even more magnificent from bottle than it was from barrel. Powerful and rich, yet not at all heavy, the 2016 is a wine of nearly indescribable beauty. Haut-Brion is often a thrilling wine, but it is rarely this finessed in its youth. Bid on this bottle of 2017 Case Basse "Soldera" Toscana IGT (97VN). Vinous: "The 2017 Toscana Sangiovese is the last wine I tasted with Gianfranco Soldera before he passed away in 2019. I had a visit scheduled for late August that year, but an unusually early harvest required Soldera to push back my tasting by a few days. By the time I arrived at Case Basse in early September, all the grapes had been picked, and our tasting started with those young musts. Today, the 2017 is sensual and racy, showing all the open-knit, seductive character of this dry, warm vintage. Soft contours wrap around a core of red berry fruit, kirsch, rose petals, mint and cinnamon. This will be a gorgeous wine to follow over the next two decades or more, but cellaring is not at all essential. (Drink between 2024-2037) (AG)" (06/2024)

Established in 1972, Caymus Vineyards is one of the benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon producers in Napa Valley with an established reputation for producing some of Napa's finest red wines. Robert Parker says: Few wineries in the world can boast such an enviable record of consistent excellence as that of Caymus. In 1975 Randall Dunn joined the winemaking team at Caymus, bringing years of experience and expertise to this already highly regarded estate.

Well-concentrated blueberry, cherry-vanilla, spice-cake and floral pastille flavors are complemented by suggestions of candied licorice and mocha. Superripe aromas of redcurrant, bitter cherry, tobacco, roasted nuts and dried herbs. Juicy, tightly wound and minerally, with a faint medicinal quality. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2017 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (100JD, 100RP, 99JS, 98W&S, 97VN, 96WS, 95WE, 94CG). Wine Advocate: "The 2017 Monte Bello is a towering triumph of California Cabernet Sauvignon. The final blend includes 15% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. The colossal nose reads like a dictionary definition of young Monte Bello, with inky black fruits, fragrant dried herbs, treated leather and a refreshing, breezy lift that continuously bounds from the glass. The palate continues the immense heft and gravitas of the nose, with ample mid-palate richness buttressed by forceful, penetrating and vigorous tannins. The oak integration throughout is remarkable, its edges gently buffed rather than vigorously polished. Decanter: "This was my pick of the vintage when it was first declared in 1996, and nearly 30 years later I feel fully justified in recommending it again. Retaining its deep colour, opening up to reveal ripe, exotic aromas of gum cistus, eucalypt and mint, so very expressive of the Douro. Ripe, quite powerful and still tight-knit with lovely rich, minty fruit, broad yet firm, tannins rising to a fresh, gripping, opulent finish (especially for Dow in its customary drier style). Photographer Jack Cakebread had gone to the Napa Valley to take some pictures for a book, and while he was there he "casually" mentioned owning a vineyard someday to a family friend who owned a ranch in Rutherford. A few hours later that friend called and offered to sell their property. They first vintage was 157 cases of 1973 Chardonnay, and that varietal is still they winery's flagship. Vine Hill Ranch is a site tucked into the most westerly section of the valley on the western edge of Oakville.
