This is no ordinary brut sans année. I tasted this with Damien at the maison this May, and three times this week, and I was impressed by the generous, creamy, white fruit character of the wine. This wine is entirely fermented in large oak barrels, and comes from vineyards tended to like a vanity garden. It is composed of 70% Chouilly Grand Cru and 30% Cramant Grand Cru, with 30% reserves from his solera-style foudre of older vintages. The back end not only has the chalk that one would expect but also a very nice chestnut flavor. This is top-class blanc de blancs, and no one that enjoys this style should miss it given the extraordinary price.

This brand-new bottling under The Anonymous Wine Collective is just beginning to come into its own. Bottled only a few months ago, it’s really starting to shine! The wine comes from two famous, highly regarded vineyard sites in the Petaluma Gap AVA, part of the broader Sonoma Coast. This is a truly special growing region thanks to the constant cooling breezes that funnel in from the Pacific through a gap in the coastal ranges. That relentless wind plays a fundamental role in producing world-class grapes: it naturally reduces yields and concentrates flavor, slows ripening to build greater complexity while preserving natural acidity, and encourages thicker grape skins that contribute texture and structure to the finished wine. Combine all of that with the region’s rocky volcanic soils, which lend a lively mineral character, and you have the magic of Petaluma Gap. This wine had so much natural flavor and concentration that we decided nine months in mostly neutral French oak was more than enough to frame the fruit. It simply didn’t need any additional “makeup.” The quality of the vineyards and the fruit speak for themselves. The result is a classic coastal California Chardonnay, with beautifully crystalline golden orchard fruit, fresh, stony minerality, vibrant acidity, and subtle, seamlessly integrated oak nuances. Fruit from these vineyards typically goes into single-vineyard-designate wines selling for $60-$80 a bottle. By keeping the source Anonymous, we can bring it to you for just $20. Cheers!

What a bottle! The lavish use of reserve wines in this bottling really set it apart from anything else that we have in stock; this wine has a texture, a drinkability, and a hidden complexity that is rare to find in any bottle, let alone one that is under $50. The value that our large volume buy has delivered is top notch. Grand Cru, especially Côte des Blancs Chardonnay Grand Cru is hardly ever spoken about as a bargain, but this is an exception. It has always been my dream to supply the champagne drinker, the champagne lover top notch wines that can be purchased by the case and consumed, and for me, this is one of bottlings that has made my dream come true. All I wanted in it was everything- classy baguette toast, subtle white flowers, a creamy texture, and a fresh finish with chalky minerality for days. And, as usual, the Bonville family delivered!

Price aside, this is one of the best bottles of Champagne at K&L. This wine comes from the same ancient massal selected vines that made their special club in the past, and is also made the same way- in enamel lined iron tanks in their cellar in Mesnil. 2017 is a fantastic vintage for Chardonnay, and this is a top notch example of the success that variety had in Champagne. Not only is the wine full of rich brioche and generous citrus, its fabulous texture and complexity is balanced by bright refreshment and definitive chalky minerality. Not only will it drink great tonight, it will improve for at least a couple of decades in good storage. Don't miss this one!

Sunny, rich and ripe, offering aromas of peach, pear and quince that lead into a texture that is unexpectedly lush yet still retains an elegant balance. The cuvée is based on young vines in St-Romain - two-thirds of the blend this year - complemented by grapes purchased in the Mâconnais. The result is a charming wine perfect for current consumption. I initially hoped this wine would be bottled under our Anonymous Wine Collective label. When I was presented with this incredible parcel resting in barrel, I could hardly believe the pedigree of the vineyard source, the quality of the wine, and the exceptional pricing. Alas, the wine needed to find a home more quickly than the process of creating and approving a new Anonymous bottling would allow. Rather than miss the opportunity, I decided to utilize a label design the winery already had ready to go: Root & Stone. As it turns out, the name couldn't be more fitting. This Chardonnay draws incredible mineral intensity from mature vines rooted in the extraordinary rocky, marine shale soils that define this site. The fruit comes from one of the most iconic vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills and is crafted by a winemaker with decades of experience. Under its regular label, this wine sells for $50 per bottle and has a long history of glowing critical acclaim, routinely earning 92-95 points from top publications. Stylistically, this is a leaner, mineral-driven, almost Chablis-like expression of Chardonnay, with racy acidity, bright floral and citrus notes, salty, stony minerality, hints of toasted rye and golden barley, and just a subtle framing of oak. On the palate, the wine has wonderful tension and a beautifully linear feel, carrying through to a mouthwatering finish of rock salt and citrus zest. I'm super stoked on this wine. For anyone who loves taut, mineral-driven Chardonnay rather than a richer, more opulent style, I truly think Root & Stone delivers unbeatable value.

We are very fortunate to be the importer for this great cult producer of blanc de blancs in the famous village of Mesnil. Launois is the only Champagne that I have sold to someone from Champagne to bring back to Champagne with them! It is that sought after. All grand cru, estate grown Champagne doesn't get better than this, but it is almost always more expensive. This is a wine of depth, finesse and intrigue and yet is about as easy as it gets to drink without engaging the grey matter at all. When we get it, it is always snapped up in a hurry... Don't wait and get disappointed!

Simply spectacular Blanc de Blancs from the steepest slopes of the Côte des Blancs grand crus in Cramant! This all stainless, all old-vine vintage Champagne has the electricity and refreshment married to rich toasty character that reminds me of the greatest of the 2002s. I love the sourdough and citrus combination on the nose and vivacious acidity that follows the rich mid palate. Don't miss this great vintage offering from Damien Hugot!

This elegant, concentrated wine from a long, cool growing season is restrained, taut and fresh. It will be best with more time in the bottle, but it’s so fascinating now for the racy acidity and the mineral, almond and green apple flavors. It's tangy, medium-bodied, layered and linear in feel, with a texture that's mouthwatering. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but best from 2028. (JG)
When I first tasted the Vignes Blanches from Curveux, I wrote down in my notes: "I can't decide if Premier Cru Pouilly-Fuissé of this quality shouldn't be possible at this price, or if I'm just overzealous in my first week on the job." Lo and behold, over a month, and half-a-hundred Pouilly-Fuissés later, I still haven't tasted one that struck me like this bottle did. It's a lush and doughy and superbly textured, with wonderful lift from the always-energetic 2024 vintage. A wine that you taste and are certain you’ll have to pay an arm and a leg to enjoy it, and then celebrate with a second bottle when you find out it’s under $30!

Melbourne-raised Senior Director of Winemaking Richie Allen first began making this wine in 2004. ‘This is what we’re known for – this is what we do best,’ says Allen, who has been with the winery since that same year. The 2024 vintage, tasted in mid-December 2024, is bright, tightly coiled, and tense at present, but Richie assures me that within a few months it will evolve into the Rombauer style we all know and love. That’s because this is a low-sulphite, minimally handled wine: no sulphur is added until a small dose for stabilisation at bottling. As a result, the wine tends to stay wound up for the first six months, before unfurling into the richer, more tropical profile with toasty oak that defines the house style. Ripe fruit comes through clearly, with yellow stone fruit, Meyer lemon citrus, mango, and a creamy mid-palate accented by spice and vanilla from the oak. Bright acidity keeps everything lifted, and during my tasting the wine continued to build in the glass, gaining richness and creaminess with air. The fruit for this Chardonnay comes from Napa and Sonoma Carneros. It is barrel-fermented and aged for nine months in a mix of American and French oak, one-third of which is new. (JC)

This stunning bottle of Chardonnay under our Anonymous Wine Collective label really captures the complex terroir of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The wine comes from two unique vineyard sites in very different sub-regions of the AVA, each contributing a distinct character to the finished blend. One vineyard is extremely coastal, sitting just a few miles from Monterey Bay and receiving daily fog along with consistent cooling winds off the ocean. Sandy soils and a long, slow growing season produce a bright, focused style of Chardonnay with wonderful verve, vibrant acidity, and a distinctly saline mineral character. The second vineyard sits on the opposite side of the mountain range, looking down toward Silicon Valley. Here, a warmer climate and rocky Franciscan shale soils yield a more powerful, structured expression of Chardonnay, with greater depth and breadth. The two components complement each other beautifully, creating a layered, complete wine where the sum is truly greater than its parts. The coastal site brings freshness, energy, and salinity, while the warmer mountain site adds weight, structure, and complexity. Together they form a compelling expression of the remarkable diversity found within the Santa Cruz Mountains. The finished wine was aged for 10 months in mostly seasoned French oak barrels (just 20% new oak) and 10% of the wine was fermented and aged in concrete egg.

97+ points. Tight and intricately detailed, as always, with bright citrus, peach and white nectarine fruits overseen by a mist of flint and struck-match complexity. Hints of grilled hazelnuts, almond butter, vanillin oak, clover blossom, crushed riverstone, crème fraîche, ozone, oatmeal and sea spray. Lightly textural, with a beautiful taut mineral line, the flavours precise and drawn out along its length. This has a tight mineral cadence, a touch of apple-skin pithiness, preserved lemon, nougat and a pristine, sustained finish with a flair of umami. This is a producer and a site that is in the finest of form. No wonder the French are nervous – once again, world-class Australian chardonnay. (DB)

The Westby Collection is now a collection of three, with a fourth on the way! Maison 76 was born in the Côte de Blanc's Grand Cru village of Avize with Champagne Frank Bonville and is on the march! Hitting both curves of the horseshoe that is the Montagne de Reims. From the south's Bouzy, the journey continues north to the Grand Cru village of Verzy. In Verzy, it's cold. The grapes turn their backs on the sun and face north, making nature coax out their charms. Here we find Champagne Alain Lallement and its owner, Antoine Lallement, the collaborator behind the Maison 76 Verzy Grand Cru. Like Bouzy, in Verzy, Pinot Noir is king. 64% Pinot Noir and 36 Chardonnay. Chiseled, structured, with a sense of precision and crisp, snappy acidity, the Verzy Grand Cru shows its northern character. Laser-focused minerality. Underneath, cool-climate Pinot Noir lifted by mountain Chardonnay. Salty, with notes of white pepper, honey, ginger, high-toned citrus, red apple, grapefruit, with hints of smoke and blackcurrants landing on a dry, chalky finish. Pair now with scallops, risotto, fried vegetables, and big buttery cheeses, or put away. Verzys are built for the long run.

Pierre Ramonet arrived in Chassagne-Montrachet in the late 1920s with, as the family tells it, a knapsack and not much else, bought grapes and made wine until he could afford vines, and in 1934 made his first purchase in Les Ruchottes, the premier cru that would make his name. Frank Schoonmaker found him early and sent the wines to America, and Pierre never stopped buying: Bâtard and Bienvenues from Domaine Coquet in the 1950s, and in 1978, at 72, a quarter hectare of Montrachet paid for with his savings. He died in 1994 at 88, having handed the work to his grandsons Noël and Jean-Claude a decade earlier. Since 2013 the labels have read Jean-Claude Ramonet, and Jean-Claude now runs the domaine with his daughter Anne-France. The holdings are what every white Burgundy lover dreams about: Montrachet, Bâtard, Bienvenues and a sliver of Chevalier, plus Ruchottes, Caillerets, Morgeot, Boudriotte, Vergers and Chaumées in Chassagne, with Saint-Aubin and Puligny alongside. The cellar is old-fashioned and unhurried, with fermentation on native yeasts and 12 to 15 months in barrel, new oak kept to a modest share even for the grands crus. Decanter calls Ramonet one of the best white wine producers on the planet, and we’re not inclined to argue: these are the Chassagnes we buy whenever we can, with the Ruchottes and the Morgeot the ones that turn up most often on our own shelves.

This is the second edition of Anonymous that we’ve produced with this incredible, world-renowned winery, and it takes the quality to an entirely new level. I’m proud to say I worked hand in hand with the winemaking team to craft this custom blend from the crème de la crème of single-vineyard components sourced from some of the region’s most sought-after sites. At the core of the wine are three Grand Cru–caliber vineyards, including old Wente clone vines planted in 1974. Most of the fruit comes from the far western edge of the Russian River Valley, where the AVA meets the West Sonoma Coast. The ultra–cool climate, Goldridge soils, and meticulous viticulture ensure that only the finest fruit makes it through the doors of this esteemed estate. The fruit was gently pressed, and the juice was racked to top-quality French oak (30% new), where it fermented with native yeasts and aged on its lees for 15 months. The final blend is composed of 12 carefully selected barrels, chosen not only for their exceptional individual character but also for their seamless integration as a whole. I couldn’t be more proud of this wine. Working with this team is a true joy. With decades of winemaking pedigree and multiple 100-point wines to their credit, this partnership embodies everything the Anonymous Wine Project is about. Under its original label, this wine typically retails for $75–$90. The value delivered through anonymity is simply sensational.

The latest release of the Sonoma Mountain Chardonnay from Kistler! Winery Notes: The Kistler plantings on Sonoma Mountain, situated on a hillside bench perfectly suited for growing world class Chardonnay, are interlaced with the rare combination of red volcanic and fine grained chalky soils. The vineyards are planted to California Heritage clones that were selected specifically over the last 30 years to ripen to our balanced wine standards. They are some of the oldest Chardonnay vineyards in Sonoma County. When coupled with the selections in the vineyard the textbook growing conditions afford a wine that is decidedly Sonoma Mountain in character. Annually some of our earliest vineyard pickings each year, this is a wine driven by a grounded, focused mineral core yet lifted by striking ethereal tones of vibrant light fruit raised at elevation.
