A huge success in the vintage is the 2015 Château Suduiraut and this gem goes a long way towards showing how successful the sweet wines were in 2015. Offering a massive array of orange peel, honey, marmalade, flowers, and toasted nuts, this incredible wine hits the palate with a thunderous display of opulence, richness, and length, all while staying fresh, elegant, and seamless. It has a huge mid-palate and is reminiscent of the 2003, only with more freshness and delineation.
Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 1989 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml) (100JA, 99RP, 97DC, 97ST, 97VN, 97WS). Jane Anson: This took home the audience award at the 67 Pall Mall tasting that I was hosting, with good reason. What a brilliant example of why Sauternes should be left to gather nuance and to shed its more exuberant, fattier early years before opening. This is just a masterclass in the layers and complexity that you find in fully mature Yquem; saffron, truffle, pineapple, quince, lime, apricots and lemon. Hugely persistent with a squeeze of scraping slate acidity through the final few minutes that gives a dry but mouthwatering finish. It is clearly in its tertiary phase in terms of the type of aromatics, and the beautiful amber, rose-gold colour, but there is no sense that it is beginning to run out of steam. A concentrated, gloriously balanced Yquem that has decades ahead of it, and fully justifies the reputation of the vintage... (01/2021)

One of the highlights of the vintage, the 2023 Coutet is exquisite, revealing aromas of pear, white peach, beeswax, pineapple and ripe apricot intertwined with spices and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and concentrated yet without heaviness, it is fleshy and generous, built around an enveloping, vibrant core of fruit framed by racy acidity that extends into an endless, ethereal finish. Marrying the inherent vivacity of Barsac’s limestone terroirs with the concentration of the year, this ranks among my favorite renditions and may well be one of the finest wines produced here in recent times. The 1988 is a backward-styled Yquem, built along the lines of the extraordinary 1975. With a honeyed, smoky, orange/coconut/pineapple-scented nose, this powerful wine possesses full body, layers of highly concentrated, extracted flavors, considerable botrytis, and a sensational finish. (RP)_

The 2023 Suduiraut is a model of modern Sauternes. Orange peel, burnt sugar, crème-brûlée, tangerine peel, and wild flowers inform a Sauternes of total finesse and silkiness. Yields were a measly 12 hectoliters per hectare. The 150 grams of residual sugar are not especially evident. Everything about the 2023 is perfectly judged. It can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring or cellared for decades. The 2023 is a timeless wine that is among the most notable successes of the year. (AG)

The dried-mango and pineapple character is so delicious in this wine. It’s full-bodied and medium-sweet, with a pretty density and a fruity finish. Wonderful balance to this super Sauternes. This is a little in reserve now, with so much for the future.

In comparison to the 2010 vintage, the 2009 d'Yquem is more concentrated with a stunning "rôti," the consequence of noble rot in French. Developing a powerful, complex bouquet with aromas of pineapple, apricot, saffron, flowers, spices and orchard fruits, it’s dense and concentrated, full-bodied and layered with a crystalline texture complicated by notes of white truffles that reveal a racy, endless and a superb finish concluding with a pristine harmony. Readers with bottles in their cellars will have to be patient before opening this masterpiece with 155 grams of residual sugar. (YC)

With terrific acidity, a voluptuous/unctuous palate, and sweet, powerful flavors buttressed by crisp acidity, it is a phenomenal Sauternes. (RP)" (06/2004)

Wine Advocate: The 2005 Rieussec is a blend of 90% Sémillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle picked between 23 September and 27 October. It has a fabulous bouquet that is mineral-rich and tensile. The palate repeats its performance from last year: focused, tense, laden with botrytis-rich fruit with a crystalline and sorbet-fresh finish that seals the deal. Bid on this bottle of 1971 Coutet, Barsac (96VN). Vinous: "The 1971 Coutet is a Barsac that I have drunk several times but to be frank, I cannot remember one as sensational as this. Funnily enough, the last time I had this was back in October 2010 for Jasper Morris’s book launch and the same man is sharing this bottle eight years later. Refulgent golden in colour it has an explosive bouquet with vivacious scents of quince, blood orange, Manuka honey and just that hint of petrol. There are few Sauternes of this age that match the vigour of this and that comes through on the palate: viscous in texture, a killer line of acidity that slices effortlessly through the honeyed fruit with fabulous tension on the rich, slightly Germanic finish. I would love to rack this up against the 1971 Yquem so they can fight it out for best Bordeaux of the vintage! (NM)" (07/2018)

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 1986 Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Sauternes (94JG, 91JS). John Gilman: "In the US market, this was the first vintage of Lafaurie-Peyraguey that really caught the imagination of Bordeaux lovers and it was very widely distributed. Consequently, along with the 1988 vintage, the 1986 is the wine from this estate that I have had the most opportunities to enjoy and it continues to drink beautifully at age thirty. The bouquet is deep, pure and quite elegant in its expression of toasted coconut, pineapple, chalky soil tones, honey, orange peel and a deft framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and complex, with a good core, bright, zesty acids and a fine finish that remains light on its feet and vibrant. " (01/2018)

Decanter: The intensity of the rich, heady melange of apricots, orange pith, ginger and mango flavours is profound, but the balance of all the elements and its luscious crème brûlée texture is what makes you swoon. It’s complex, savoury, rich, intense, long and elegant. The 1999 vintage was classified as difficult, with rain in September and October, but the fruit retained fabulous acidity that perfectly balances the extraordinary residual sugar of 128.2g per litre into dreamy, harmonious meld. The 2010 Château d’Yquem is an utterly stunning young wine and a very worthy follow-up to the magical wine produced at this estate in 2009. The bouquet is deep, complex and flat out brilliant, as it soars from the glass in a celestial mélange of pineapple, tangerines, a touch of passion fruit, honeycomb, beautifully complex and chalky soil tones, spring flowers and a very gentle touch of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, suave and utterly seamless, with great mid-palate depth, bright acids and surreal length and grip on the dancing and very intensely flavored finish. The 2010 d’Yquem is not quite as ethereally complex at this stage as the hauntingly beautiful 2009, but in terms of sheer quality, it seems likely to be every bit as profound. 98+

A blend of 83% Semillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc, and 2% Muscadelle, the 2016 Doisy-Vedrines has 141 g/L of residual sugar. It has a pale to medium straw-gold color and gives up wonderful scents of ripe, juicy pineapples and green mango, before opening out to notes of honeycomb, coriander seed, chalk dust, and lime blossoms. The concentrated, full, rich palate delivers an impressive backbone of refreshing acidity, finishing with epic length and depth. (LPB)
This is a vintage that really suits the Barsac wines, because they have the concentration and richess that is inevitable with the heat and small yields of 2019, but still manage a grip and salinity that ensures brilliant balance and a moreish mouthwatering finish. Orange peel on the finish, this is great. (JA)
This wine is beautifully textured. The orange-peel and candied fruitiness are balanced by a dry core of botrytis that gives the wine weight while keeping a light touch. It has all the tight freshness and minerality typical of this great estate. Drink from 2026.*Cellar Selection* (RV)

Power, freshness, depth, after the extremes of 2021 and 2022, this walks the line between the two, exceptional, mandarin, quince, mirabelle plums, white truffle, fresh fruit and confit fruit, a vibration of slate and steel, opulent but slices closed on the finish. The botrytis came early and quickly in 2023. Francis Mayeur in final vintage as consultant, after many years as inhouse winemaking team, Lorenzo Pasquini director. 154g/l residual sugar, 3.85ph, harvest September 14 to October 11.
The pale lemon colored 2016 de Myrat opens a little youthfully subdued and cedary, giving way to a beautiful core of lemon curd, grapefruit and honey-drizzled white peaches plus hints of lanolin, spice cake and crème caramel. Big, full, rich and oh-so-decadent in the mouth, the palate is completely coated with generous citrus and spicy flavors, finishing long and honey laced. 94+ (LPB)
Château Rieussec earned Premier Cru status in the 1855 classification of Sauternes and Barsac. Carmes de Rieussec is the estate’s second wine, connecting this 2020 Sauternes to one of Bordeaux’s historic classified properties. It is presented here in a 375ml half-bottle.
To begin with the wine seems reticent, hiding its glories. Then, little by little, the remarkable richness of the wine comes through, offering an impressive array of flavors and balance between sweet and dry. The wine will definitely age well. (RV)

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2000 d'Yquem, Sauternes (96DC). Decanter: "Things were more difficult in Sauternes than in the rest of Bordeaux in the 2000 vintage, with a brilliant first picking in early October that showed all the promise of the vintage, but with the later crop ruined by heavy rain. In the end Yquem made 20% of its usual yield, but the success of the earlier growing season comes through with luxuriously concentrated apricot and marmalade flavours, laced with bitter orange, lime zest, butterscotch, saffron and white truffles. 128g/l of residual sugar, with total acidity of 4.5. The team behind this wine included current winemaking director Sandrine Garbay, who had begun two years earlier in 1998, with the château already partly owned by Bernard Arnault of LVMH (he bought his first shares in 1996) but still headed up by director Alexandre de Lur Saluces, whose family had been at Yquem since 1875. Of the 1988 Rieussec, Sauternes, Wine Advocate writes: "Tasted in Sauternes with Charles Chevalier, the 1988 Rieussec is a vintage that Chevalier himself claimed to be his favorite. I can understand why. It has an unerringly youthful bouquet with vibrant citrus fruit, wild honey, mandarin and mineral scents, a bouquet that seems to have electricity flowing through it. The same can be said for the palate that is full of tension and vigor, almost clinical in terms of focus with alluring viscosity and wonderful length. This bowled me over with its charm and breeding. Another sensational white, the 2024 Château Suduiraut Pur Sémillon reveals ripe citrus, crushed lime, mint, and chalky minerality on the nose, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with a pure, graceful, focused mouthfeel, solid mid-palate depth, and integrated acidity. It plays in the fresher style of the vintage yet brings depth and length. Drink this beauty over the coming two decades. Drink 2026-2045.
Impressively balanced, with the fruit rich, intense with a golden glow. The acidity is as important as the freshness, giving a delicious lift to the core of dry, concentrated botrytis. Obviously a great wine for long-term aging in a great Sauternes year. (RV)
A perfect Yquem again after the 2021, which is fresher and more refined than the 2022. The perception of sweetness is super-knit. Lots of botrytis, with turmeric, saffron, cream, roasted meringue, pine nuts, spices and dried mangoes. This is a powerful, seductive and lush wine. Ornamented and richer this year than 2021, but there is so much charm and harmony. Long and spicy, with a hint of petrol at the end. Wow. The second most concentrated Yquem after 1945, according to the winemaker. About 160 grams of residual sugar. So approachable now, but better in five or six years. It will live forever.

Bottled in a special bottle, the 2021 Château Rieussec checks in as 91% Sémillon and 9% Sauvignon Blanc. It has a killer bouquet of orange marmalade, grilled peach, brioche, and minty herbs, with more spice and toasty notes emerging with time in the glass. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, yet gorgeously balanced with good acidity, it's a sensational Sauternes that deserves 4-5 years in the cellar and will evolve for two decades.
