Lovely transparency to this, with subtle honeysuckle, lemon rind and honey in the nose. It's medium-bodied with a refined texture and beautiful length. Real white Burgundy for the money. Drink now.
Bid on this bottle of 1996 Etienne Sauzet Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru "Champs Canet" (93RP, 92ST, 90BH). Wine Advocate: "The Puligny-Montrachet Les Champs-Canet possesses an intense, deeply rich, broad, and white peach-scented nose. Its displays a lace-like, elegant, and highly-defined, yet expansive and powerful medium-to-full-bodied character. Leesy notes, together with minerals, pears, and sweet oak are found in this exciting and seductive wine. I suggest drinking it between 2002 and 2007. This wine had been bottled one week prior to my visit, having spent 14 months on its lees. (PR)" (02/1998)

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Paul Pernot Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (92BH, 92JG). Burghound: "A gorgeous white flower, citrus peel and honeysuckle nose that now displays some secondary influence introduces detailed, precise and naturally sweet flavors that offer outstanding length and the old vines deliver a more concentrated mouth texture than most wines of the vintage. A lovely effort that is drinking perfectly now though should continue to do so for many years to come. Consistent notes with no premox issues for this wine until the most recent bottle which was completely premoxed through and through." (04/2013)

Bid on this bottle of 1996 Maison Leroy Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Folatières". Robert M. Parker writes: “I have said it so many times that it may seem redundant, but if you missed it in my 1990 tome, Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy stands virtually alone at the top of Burgundy’s quality hierarchy. Because she is a perfectionist, and because she has had the courage to produce wines from low yields and bottle them naturally, without fining or filtration, she has been scorned by many Burgundy negociants, and even by the proprietors of other top domaines. Not only are they jealous, they are frightened of Bize-Leroy because they fear increasing pressure for lower yields and bio-dynamic farming. Anyone who loves great Burgundy, must realize that her wines embarrass much of what is produced in Burgundy.”

The 2024 ranks among the best vintages of Leflaive's Bâtard I have tasted. There is a lovely freshness without sacrificing the richness that is the charm of a proper Bâtard. The wine surprises with profuse aromas of ripe pear, acacia flower, chalk and spice; the texture is dense but very fine, bringing impressive persistence to the finish. The wine is completely, convincingly delicious. The difficult 2024 vintage required extensive sorting, but the team did what was necessary to produce a truly memorable result.

As is often the case when young, the nose closely resembles that of the Pucelles with just a bit more layering. By contrast, there is definitely more size, weight and power to the bigger-bodied still yet refined and wonderfully energetic flavors that coat the palate with dry extract while delivering outstanding persistence on the compact, balanced and Zen-like finale. This is gorgeous and equally classy though it's also very much a buy and forget you own it wine. *Don't miss!*

Mid lemon yellow. A distinguished but understated bouquet, partly spring flowers, partly fresh apple. There is power behind, with tension at the back of the palate, a light citrus wash to the orchard fruit, a feeling of treading on very small white stones, and a refined finish. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Nov 2025.

Note: from 60+ year old vines and the vineyard is a whopping 4 ha monopole within Perrières. Here too the lightly wooded nose displays a panoply of floral nuances that include rose petal, lilac and acacia blossom with additional notes of just grated zest, spice and green apple. There is almost painful intensity to the slightly more concentrated and more mineral-driven flavors that conclude in a chiseled, youthfully austere and sneaky long finale that seems to go on and on. The Clos de la Mouchère is always excellent but in 2024, it is genuinely stunning.*Burghound Outstanding!*

Bid on this bottle of 2018 Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet "Les Enseignères" (92WS). Wine Spectator: "Fleeting aromas of white flowers, seashore, orange zest and hazelnut give way to peach and lemon flavors, with accents of vanilla, clove and nutmeg. It's subtle, verging on creamy in texture, finishing long and balanced. (BS)" (05/2021)

Bid on this bottle of 2019 Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet Puligny-Montrachet (90BH). Burghound: "Reasonably subtle though easily perceptible wood sets off the very pretty Puligny-like nose of acacia blossom, white orchard fruit, especially pear, along with discreet spice and citrus zest nuances. There is good density to the appealingly textured medium-bodied flavors that flash both good depth and persistence on the balanced and lingering finish. This is presently quite backward and compact and in need of at least a few years first. A fine villages. " (06/2022)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1996 Etienne Sauzet Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (95RP, 94ST, 92BH). Wine Advocate: "Crafted from 29 year old vines, Sauzet's spectacular Batard-Montrachet offers intense mineral aromatics and a powerful, expansive, full-bodied, and profound personality. Layers of poached pears, stones, gravel, juniper berries, and spicy oak are found in this magnificently structured and focused, yet fat and oily masculine wine. " (02/1998)

The more elegant nose is cooler and also overtly floral with its aromas of apple, pear, spice and just sliced citrus. There is excellent energy and delineation to the slightly more mineral-driven and gorgeously textured middle weight flavors that display fine length on the comparably complex finale. This too is lovely and I particularly like the balance.

Pure and bright, with lovely tension and mineral complexity. Aromas of flint, cream and citrus. Medium-bodied with a soft character, bright acidity and minerality on the palate. Long and engaging. Barrel-fermented with around 20% new oak. Drink now or hold.
The 2024 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a very gifted, crushed stone/petrichor-tinged nose that has much more animation and energy than the previous vintage. The palate is taut and fresh, vibrant, stony and penetrating. So much energy is tied up in this Puligny but there is real persistence and power on the exquisitely defined finish. This is just an outstanding Les Referts among the best you will find in this vintage.(NM)

The 2024 Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a crisp bouquet with green apple and sea cave scents that unfurl in the glass. Fine delineation. The palate is well balanced, quite strict, fine weight in the mouth with a citric finish. You get the sense that this is holding something back for later. Contained but there is potential for it to blossom with three or four years in bottle.(NM)
A very serious, dense wine with subtle cream, lemon zest and stone fruit on the nose. Touches of minerals and savoriness. Bright and tense, with very good texture, density and length. Barrel-fermented with around 15% new oak. Drink now or in the next few years.
Fine mid lemon yellow. This starts quietly, then builds further back. A little more flesh here than Folatières. Only white fruit, some of the chiselled backbone, just a fraction less tension than expected. Crunchy stones to finish. Drink from 2029-2034.
Bid on this bottle of 2019 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault (94DC, (89-91BH), (89-91JM), (89-91RP), (89-91VN)). Decanter: "This village Meursault is blended from older vines in villages-level lieux dits such as En La Barre and En Luraule, and younger fruit from premier crus including Charmes and Genevrières. The harvest is lightly crushed and run into cask where the wines are fermented and aged for at least 18 months to produce this wine of impeccable balance, with classic Meursault aromas of ripe apple, hazelnut and butter, within a firm texture enlivened with a gracious, lemony acidity. From the domaine’s largest parcel, at 1.07 hectares, and planted in the 1950s, the 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Hameau de Blagny 1er Cru has a complex bouquet of lemon thyme and honeysuckle, touches of basalt coming through with time. The palate is very harmonious with quince jus on the entry and a little more spiciness on the finish compared to the La Garenne. A lovely blood orange note lingers on the aftertaste. Another delicious and cerebral 2019 from Domaine de Chérisey. (Drink between 2023-2043)

While compositionally similar to the straight Bourgogne, there is more elegance as well as an attractive essence of pear nuance. There is again excellent verve to the chiseled and strikingly textured medium-bodied flavors that flash focused power on the firm, complex, balanced and impressively long finish for a villages-level wine. While this could use better depth, everything is in place for that to occur in time. One to buy. *Outstanding*
White peaches, honey and sliced pineapple, with hints of flint and vanilla. It's full-bodied, racy and very long, with just a hint of vanilla cream kicking in at the end, after a minute or two! Terrific white. Drinkable now, but better in two or three years.
The 2024 Puligny-Montrachet Village is a blend of owned and exchanged fruit. This has another bright and quite minty bouquet that soars from the glass. Plenty of energy. The palate is fresh and vibrant, fine weight, quite tensile with plenty of mineralité on the finish. Classically styled Puligny that will give a lot of pleasure.(NM)
There are 11 barrels of the Clos des Folatieres, which happily proves to be the finest of the three. Pale lemon and lime. The notable reduction on the nose slightly hides the fruit, but the palate shows its class. There is a biscuity note, part barrel, part reduction, but much the longest finish. This is going to be a really fine wine and I suspect would have earned a fifth star without the reduction. Drink from 2028-2036.
Very mineral, very fresh, and very good, the Pucelles from Alvina Pernot offers a bright, lemon and gooseberry fruit with a salty edge and a hint of lees. The texture is lively, with medium body, abundant tension, and impressive length. Alvina's husband, Philippe Abadie, explains that they don't want the wine to be overly marked by the maturation, so they have used little new oak and have already bottled it. (CC)
Pronounced aromas of peach and passionfruit on the initial attack of Alvina Pernot's Chalumeaux lead into a lovely, creamy, supple texture and a lingering finish. The finesse and elegance of this wine in the 2024 vintage are astounding. Alvina's husband, Philippe Abadie, explains that the old vines (planted in 1956) suffer in hot years because there is only 10cm of earth on top of the limestone, so a wet year such as 2024 suits them well.(CC)
Les Trézins is a high-sited lieu-dit on the upper slopes of Puligny-Montrachet, near the boundary with Saint-Aubin. Domaine Larue, a family estate based in Saint-Aubin, produced this 2024 village-designated white Burgundy from Chardonnay, linking the domaine’s home territory with one of the Côte de Beaune’s historic wine communes.
A new appellation, from exchanged must. Mid lemon and lime, a neutral nose, until a little honeysuckle emerges. This has quite some density on the palate, a touch of warmth behind, but with the class of the fruit returning. Not too mineral a Champ Gain, much more a question of the fruit. Drink from 2028-2033. Tasted Oct 2024.
The first of three separate subdivisions of Folatières which have been made and bottled apart. Pale green tint. This is honeyed on the nose, with a little oatmeal, rather delicious in its much riper style but that takes away the classicism. Three barrels made. Drink from 2026-2033.

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Domaine Benoit Ente Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Folatières-En la Richarde" ((92-94BH)). Burghound: "A discreet application of wood sets off a ripe but fresh nose that is composed by notes of lilac, spiced tea and pear liqueur-like scents. There is excellent intensity to the equally mineral-driven flavors that possess more size, weight and richness though not quite the refinement on the pure, complex and beautifully harmonious finale. Good stuff and worth checking out." (06/2016)

Wine Advocate: "A huge, complete wine, the 2010 Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles boasts stunning inner perfume and layers of expressive fruit, all supported by veins of minerality that occasionally appear hidden by the wine’s sheer stuffing. In 2010, the Demoiselles impresses for its verticality, fabulous overall balance and completeness. It is another wine that should handsomely repay cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2020. Based in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Sylvain Cathiard is best known for its Côte de Nuits reds. This Bourgogne Aligoté highlights another side of Burgundy: Aligoté, the region’s traditional alternative to Chardonnay for white wine, with a dedicated regional appellation established in 1937.

Champ Gain is a Premier Cru climat of Puligny-Montrachet, one of the Côte de Beaune villages most closely associated with Chardonnay. Domaine Alvina Pernot’s 2024 bottling carries this vineyard name, linking the wine to Burgundy’s precise tradition of identifying wines by individual, historically delimited sites.
Usually coming from 8 plots, but as François has made more parcellaire bottlings in 2023 there are just 6 this year. Mid lemon yellow, slightly toasty. Clearly stricter after the Chassagnes. Nicely balanced, with medium generosity and length. The class shows at the finish, with precision. Drink from 2027-2030. Tasted Oct 2024.
Les Combettes lies at the northern end of Puligny-Montrachet, adjoining the Meursault boundary and the renowned Perrières vineyard. Domaine Jomain’s 2024 Chardonnay carries the Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru designation, placing it within one of the commune’s officially recognized premier cru sites.
A full lemon yellow colour. Plenty of fruit on the nose at correct ripeness, with good flesh on the palate, enlivened by the stones. Nothing angular, all in a good balance of ripeness. Some verbena and lime blossom in the aromatics. Good stuff. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Nov 2025.

The technicolor palate quickly takes over from the reserved nose with its vivacious array of lemon chiffon pie, lime zest and Fuji apples. Steadfast concentration carries the soft oak impression into a long and caressing finish. It’s an unusually loquacious Garenne here, and its downright irresistible. Most of the cuvée is from 60-year-old vines, with the rest coming from 20-year-old plantings.

Pale lemon colour. Less evident fruit on the nose, more closed than the Chassagne, just a question of needing more time. The intensity comes at the back of the palate and extends really well behind. Long, refined yet with a little muscle. Drink from 2029-2032. Tasted Oct 2025.
A superb wine of impressive depth; substantial yet not heavy. The first impression is one of pronounced aromas of tropical fruit with a floral accent. The wine is full-bodied but deftly balanced by the fresh acidity of the vintage. The wine is given a limpid clarity by the lack of new oak aromas, and just a hint of agreeably bitter ‘beaux amers’ (or pleasant bitterness) on the finish by the firm use of the vertical press. (CC)

Consistently among my favourite Chevaliers, the Clos des Chevaliers from Jean Chartron does not disappoint, with pronounced aromas of greengage plum, lemon peel and nectarine, a stony mineral foundation and accents of acacia flowers and spice. On the palate, the wine shows exceptional concentration and depth of flavour, with a lively, dynamic feel; it is superb in every regard. The half-hectare of vines at the northern end of the historical section of Chevalier is among the greatest sites for white wine in Burgundy.(CC)

There’s an extra element of ripeness to this white, exuding flavors of peach, apricot, preserved lemon, briny mineral and toasty oak. Harmonious in a youthful way, with a creamy texture and vibrant acidity. The aftertaste goes on and on, with a multilayered feel. Superb. Best from 2029 through 2043.—B.S.
