This outrageous young hyper-peated single cask from Glasgow 1770 is one of the most exciting barrels we've come across in a long time. Their tiny stills produce a tense, powerful, peated spirit with deep, oily texture, and a complex, smoky Highland character. Add the sweet, raisinated richness of PX sherry and you're in for a treat. This isn't the salty, iodine-laced smoke you might expect from Islay, but rather a more heather-driven, barbecue-like style of smoke that feels distinctly Highland in character. This awesome collaboration with the famous Delmonico Steakhouse is every bit as exciting as it sounds. It may be the first steak whisky I fully approve of. Needless to say, this one isn't about regionality, but originality. Let's have it. The color is a vivid auburn (1.4). The nose is clear, tight, and wound full of energy, offering huge notes of Carolina barbecue, roasted chicory, pecan pie, turbinado sugar, and roasted arabica. This is coupled with a sweet salinity that feels more vegetal than coastal. On the palate, it's oily and rich with roasted nuts pushing forward and a dark, pungent smoke running through the center. Sweet oak and vibrant, sticky wine round out the mid-palate. The finish is smoldering and sweet, full of old mesquite embers and dense, chewy dark fruit. With water, the tension is released, and a huge wave of fruit battles the roasty aromas on the nose. The palate remains a battleground of dense flavors but the tannins soften, and the grippy finish relaxes into something surprisingly approachable, all things considered. An absolutely stunning young whisky and a perfect first single cask collaboration from this fabulous little distillery and the famous steakhouse. If you want to taste before you buy, you can grab a glass at Delmonico's in Las Vegas, but it probably won't last long at either venue once they pop these bottles and start pouring. It's too good!

When The Perfect Fifth released this extraordinary 41-year-old Cambus in 2020, it carried a retail price of roughly $1,100, entirely reasonable on paper for a cask-strength whisky distilled in 1979 at a distillery that had already been closed for nearly three decades. Today we're able to offer that exact whisky for a fraction of its original price, and at this level it becomes one of the most astonishing old Scotch values we've seen in years. Cambus was one of Scotland's great grain distilleries, enormously important to the blending industry before closing permanently in 1993, and stocks of this age are becoming genuinely finite. Cask #90003 was distilled April 25, 1979 and spent 41 years in a first-fill ex-bourbon barrel before being bottled June 15, 2020 at a natural 53.2% ABV, yielding just 283 bottles. Despite the enormous age, this is not tired old grain. The nose is packed with pastry, nougat, toasted nuts, orange, vanilla and sweet oak. The palate remains remarkably fresh and energetic, with citrus, honey, sponge cake, almond, tea and gentle spice carrying through a long, polished finish. Whiskyfun's Serge Valentin scored it 88 points extremely high for the discerning Frenchman, while Jim Murray gave it 96. At $350, finding 41-year-old whisky of this pedigree, at full cask strength, from a long-closed distillery feels almost absurd.

Distilled at Auchentoshan in 1998, this Lowland single malt was matured for 25 years in a single bourbon cask and bottled for Old Malt Cask’s 25th anniversary. Auchentoshan is renowned for triple distillation, a practice uncommon among Scotch malt distilleries and central to the Glasgow-area producer’s identity.
The name of this whisky is a nod to how it’s matured in three different casks: American Bourbon, Spanish oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry. It’s robust, with a deep amber hue and rich caramel scent. The flavor profile shows toffee, campfire smoke and a mouthwatering butterscotch note on the exhale. It almost reads like a peated bourbon. (KN)

Slightly smoky on the nose, with notes of mesquite wood and cigar ash, coupled beautifully with Whoppers, vanilla bean, coffee stout, and cookies and cream ice cream. There’s more sweetness on the palate in the form of creamy milk chocolate, alongside café con leche, and spiced Christmas cake. That richness carries over to the finish which is long with smoked meats and espresso. A touch light, but well-balanced and approachable. (TS, Winter-2021)

Fruity and vegetal scent, in equal measures. Allowed to sit, it shows more caramel, even a light Sherry-ish character. Lots of lovely caramel flavor, with a baking spice finish. Soft, smooth and very sippable. Good value. (KN)

Bid on this bottle of Glenkinchie 12 Year Old Lowland Single Malt Whisky. Whisky Advocate: "Like Dalwhinnie, Glenkinchie starts life as a (deliberately) sulfury new make, but this character falls away in time to reveal delicacy. As a 10 year old, that sulfur could still be hanging around - one reason for the switch to a 12 year age statement. The improvement is noticeable. Here are gently lifted floral notes, hints of dry grass, and crisp pear. The feel is gentle and slow in the center, while vanilla creeps into the finish. Not complex, but very pleasant. (Vol. 21, #2) "

One of the most intriguing releases we've encountered from the historic Bladnoch Distillery, this incredible eight-year-old single cask was personally selected by Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage as part of the distillery's exclusive Single Cask Collection. Savage's background is particularly fascinating. After completing a doctorate in engineering in Australia, he began his whisky career studying cask maturation at Diageo before moving into production with William Grant & Sons and eventually becoming Master Distiller at The Macallan. He brought that remarkable technical experience to Bladnoch in 2019, helping guide the renaissance of one of Scotland's most historic distilleries. This unusual single malt spent eight years maturing in Manzanilla sherry oak, an extremely rare cask type due to the needs of the bodegas for old wood in their soleras. Made exclusively in the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Manzanilla is celebrated for its dry, delicate and distinctly saline character. Here it contributes notes of fresh lemon zest, salted almonds and delicate oak spice. Bottled at an impressive 118.6 proof, this is a spectacularly distinctive example of young Lowland malt. This delicious cask is available in California exclusively at K&L Wine Merchants.

Only a tiny allocation from this wonderful cask made it to California for exclusive sale at K&L Wine Merchants. These stocks sell for many multiples of this insane price in the European and Asian markets. Hand-selected by Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage, this incredible young, heavily sherried malt is one of the finest examples of what Scotland's southernmost distillery is capable of producing. Savage joined Bladnoch in 2019 after serving as Master Distiller at The Macallan, where he led the Whisky Mastery team and helped oversee the opening of the distillery's spectacular new facility in 2018. Before that, he worked in cask maturation at Diageo and distilling at William Grant & Sons. Few people in Scotland have a more impressive technical background, and his influence on Bladnoch's revival has been profound. This exceptional seven-year-old spent its entire maturation in Oloroso sherry oak before bottling at a robust 116.4 proof. The result is a wonderfully rich expression emphasizing dark chocolate, roasted nuts and toffee. A remarkable example of the quality emerging from this historic Lowland distillery and an absolutely extraordinary value for a genuine distillery-selected single cask. Only 78 bottles available in California exclusively at K&L Wine Merchants.

The oldest expression in this extraordinary collection of single casks from Bladnoch is also perhaps the most unusual. Personally selected by the brilliant Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage, this remarkable 19-year-old Lowland single malt was matured in Armagnac oak, an exceptionally uncommon cask type in the world of Scotch whisky. Savage came to Bladnoch in 2019 after an illustrious career that included heading up whisky production at The Macallan, technical leadership at William Grant & Sons and specialized work in cask maturation at Diageo. His doctorate in engineering and deep understanding of the interaction between spirit and oak have made him one of the most technically accomplished whisky makers working in Scotland today. The influence of Armagnac maturation on this exceptionally mature Lowland spirit is fascinating, offering a distinctive profile of caramelized pear, baking spices and subtle black pepper. Bottled at a natural cask strength of 108.6 proof, this is a wonderfully unusual expression of Bladnoch's historic character. Nearly two decades in oak have produced a whisky of remarkable depth, and the opportunity to experience such mature stocks from this legendary distillery is becoming increasingly rare. Only 120 bottles of this special cask will be available exclusively at K&L.

Finding mature Lowland single malt of this quality at anything approaching a reasonable price has always been exceedingly difficult, and this extraordinary 18-year-old Bladnoch is a wonderful reminder of why the historic distillery commands such tremendous respect among serious Scotch enthusiasts. Founded in 1817 by brothers John and Thomas McClelland, Bladnoch has endured more than its share of closures and ownership changes. Its most recent resurrection began in 2015 when Australian entrepreneur David Prior acquired the shuttered distillery and undertook an ambitious restoration. Four years later, he recruited former Macallan Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage to lead the next chapter. Savage's extensive experience with Diageo, William Grant & Sons and The Macallan made him uniquely qualified to oversee this historic revival. Personally selected by Savage for the distillery's limited Single Cask Collection, this remarkable whisky spent 18 years maturing in bourbon oak before bottling at 108.4 proof. The extended maturation has developed a beautifully balanced profile of caramel, cinnamon and oak spice, showcasing the elegance of mature Bladnoch without the influence of fortified wine casks, finishes or other gimicks. An exceptional old Lowlander from at an almost antique price. Only 84 bottles will be sold in California exclusively at K&L Wine Merchants.
