One of the most intriguing releases we've encountered from the historic Bladnoch Distillery, this incredible eight-year-old single cask was personally selected by Master Distiller Dr. Nick Savage as part of the distillery's exclusive Single Cask Collection. Savage's background is particularly fascinating. After completing a doctorate in engineering in Australia, he began his whisky career studying cask maturation at Diageo before moving into production with William Grant & Sons and eventually becoming Master Distiller at The Macallan. He brought that remarkable technical experience to Bladnoch in 2019, helping guide the renaissance of one of Scotland's most historic distilleries. This unusual single malt spent eight years maturing in Manzanilla sherry oak, an extremely rare cask type due to the needs of the bodegas for old wood in their soleras. Made exclusively in the coastal town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Manzanilla is celebrated for its dry, delicate and distinctly saline character. Here it contributes notes of fresh lemon zest, salted almonds and delicate oak spice. Bottled at an impressive 118.6 proof, this is a spectacularly distinctive example of young Lowland malt.
