Staff Favorites

If you’re going to have Robert Parker or Stephen Tanzer over for dinner, selecting a wine they’ve rated highly will be a nice choice. However, when you’re buying wines for yourself, we’d love to see you find wines that match up your unique palate and pocketbook. We have a large staff of friendly and knowledgeable wine professionals that taste hundreds of wines each week. They can put you in touch with bottles that you are likely to love, often at a much lower cost than the highly-rated gems that often see a run-up in price and frequent availability issues. Like any great group of opinionated professionals, our staff has varied tastes themselves. Often our customers will find a particular staff member with a style that corresponds to their own. That concept works extremely well in our retail stores, and this section is our effort to bring you the same online. Don’t get us wrong, we love the highly rated wines from the press and will continue to offer them, but we think you’re missing out if you’re not augmenting those selections with picks from our excellent staff. Here are their favorites. (Click on a name to see their other selections - or to drop them a line.) Cheers!

Pale yellow color. Nose of apple cake with hints of brioche and sandalwood. Fine bubbles bring a palate of toast, almond and divinity (Turkish Delight). Nice finish. Great value!

2022 Grand Napa Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Reviwer Picture By: Ryan Woodhouse | Review Date: 4/15/2026 | Send Email
Over the last five years or so, we’ve had the opportunity to offer several impressive wines from Grand Napa at exceptional prices. Time and again, they’ve proven to be powerful, structured, serious Napa Cabernets that have earned a loyal following among our customers. The 2022 Mount Veeder bottling is the perfect foil to the also-excellent Howell Mountain bottling. Whereas Howell leans into its muscular, brooding power and dark fruit profile, the Veeder bottling is strikingly aromatic, refined, detailed, and nuanced. This cooler, east-facing terroir, with vines planted in sandy, gravelly soils, has produced a wonderfully open and expressive wine. The profile here leans more red-fruited, with notes of dried red currant, spiced cherry, bramble, and bay laurel. It’s a fascinating wine, with subtle power and a real sense of mountain terroir. As with its sibling, this is a wine you can enjoy now with a good decant, and it should continue to improve for at least the next decade in the cellar. With neighbors such as Mayacamas and Aaron Pott, this wine offers a true expression of the sub-region and shows impressive pedigree, refinement, precision winemaking. As with the Howell Mountain wine, there is very little real competition offering this level of Mount Veeder Cabernet anywhere near this price point. Limited availability and limited-time pricing.

2022 Grand Napa Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Reviwer Picture By: Ryan Woodhouse | Review Date: 4/15/2026 | Send Email
Over the last five years or so, we’ve had the opportunity to offer several impressive wines from Grand Napa at exceptional prices. Time and again, they’ve proven to be powerful, structured, serious Napa Cabernets that have earned a loyal following among our customers. The 2022 Howell Mountain bottling is a classic reflection of this famed mountain terroir. Sourced from a small vineyard perched at 1,800 feet in rocky volcanic soils, the vines produce tiny clusters that yield a deeply concentrated, intensely flavorful Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is redolent of cassis, mulberry, and plum, with notes of dryland chaparral, graphite, and cigar box. Muscular yet refined tannins give it plenty of structure and power, but it never feels abrasive or monolithic. This is a wine you can enjoy now with a solid 30-minute decant, and it should continue to improve for at least the next decade in the cellar. At its usual $145 retail price, it sits comfortably alongside many top-class wines and more than holds its own. At our ludicrously discounted Insider’s Advantage price, nearly $100 below SRP, it simply blows the competition out of the water. Frankly, there is no real competition offering this level of Howell Mountain Cabernet at this price. Limited availability and limited-time pricing.

2020 Buglioni "Il Bugiardo" Valpolicella Ripasso Classico
Reviwer Picture By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 4/15/2026 | Send Email
Let’s be brutally honest: the Ripasso category is an absolute minefield. Far too much of what makes it to the US is just thin, commercial Valpolicella masked with a heavy dose of residual sugar to fake the richness of an Amarone. It's lazy, it's cloying, and it completely lacks spine. Buglioni’s "Il Bugiardo" (The Liar) is the undisputed exception of the underwhelming sea of Ripasso floading the market. It earned its name because it famously fooled seasoned experts into thinking it was a top-tier Amarone, and the 2020 vintage shows exactly why. This wine completely bypasses the sticky, jammy traps of the appellation. The nose doesn't hit you with cheap, sweet fruit. On the palate, it delivers massive depth and dry extract from its time on the Amarone skins, but here is the crucial difference: it absolutely refuses to be fat. It is propelled by a vertical, electric spine of acidity that keeps all that density perfectly in check. At 50% off retail price this is a wine to buy by the case. Best deal around!

2018 Anonymous Wine Collective "Extended Tirage" Sonoma Coast Brut Sparkling Wine
Reviwer Picture By: Scott Beckerley | Review Date: 4/14/2026 | Send Email
This bubble has spent an incredible amount of time on the lees! Seven full years. Comparable to what we see from a few of our very finest small-estate Champagne producers. I really loved its balance of tartness, cream, citrus, poached pear fruit and that super-duper long and chalky finish. It went on forever! There are also some flavors of juicy stone fruits with undertones of exotic Asian spices and Granny Smith apple. I have the distinct feeling that this bottling is also cellar worthy, just like a fine Champagne. I've had bottlings of Schramsberg Blanc de Blanc that were decades old and I can see this one also having that high quality advantage.

2021 Anonymous Wine Collective Sonoma Coast Blanc de Blancs Sparkling Wine
Reviwer Picture By: Scott Beckerley | Review Date: 4/14/2026 | Send Email
This is the American equivalent of a fine Blanc de Blanc from Avize or Mesnil. It is so refreshing and bright with key lime, creamy lemon, puff pastry and juicy orange flavors. The minerality is generous and it lingers on and on! The bead is very fine, and it reminds me of the Launois Quartz, which I love. I literally jumped on the last remaining bottles that we had of Anonymous Blanc de Blancs from the previous bottling and now, I will not have to despair. Its successor is just as wonderful!

Michel Arnould "Gènese" Verzenay Grand Cru Extra Brut Champagne
Reviwer Picture By: Graham Collis | Review Date: 4/14/2026 | Send Email
This bottle is a perfect example of Champagne's ability to balance power and elegance. The aromas have a crystalline purity, evoking crisp red apple, freshly baked bread, and roasted hazelnuts. With time in the glass, these fruit and yeasty aromas are peeled back, revealing tremendous saline/iodized mineral character. The palate skips straight to the mineral character that had to be searched for on the nose, and has amazing tension and concentration. I could not help but be reminded of Bollinger's special cuvee while tasting this. Would highly recommend!

Highland Park 15 Year Old "Viking Heart" Isle of Orkney Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Reviwer Picture By: Noah Schwartz | Review Date: 4/14/2026 | Send Email
A rich, gentle, and well‑balanced scotch. The inviting smokiness is complemented by a touch of sweetness of dried fruit, gained through maturation in sherry casks. It's aromatic and coats the mouth with a peated, honeyed, tingly sensation. I have found the right scotch that makes me excited to begin my journey of understanding and appreciating the islands style.

2021 Red Car Sonoma Coast Syrah
Reviwer Picture By: Ryan Woodhouse | Review Date: 4/14/2026 | Send Email
Syrah is such a fascinating grape. After nearly 25 years of studying wine, I still find it utterly captivating. While Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are often seen as the most transparent varieties, speaking most clearly of terroir, I would argue that Syrah can be even more expressive of its environment, a grape capable of conveying a remarkably vivid sense of place. Today’s offering is a perfect example: Red Car’s perfumed, elegant, ultra-cool-climate Syrah from the Sonoma Coast. The fruit comes from vineyards planted within 10 miles of the ocean, where the long, slow growing season stretched into mid to late October before harvest. Fermentation included a healthy portion of whole clusters in small open-top fermenters, with daily hand punch-downs and native yeast fermentation. The wine was then aged for 15 months in 500-liter French oak puncheons, only 10% new, with the balance in well-seasoned barrels. The intent is clear: to preserve the soaring floral aromatics and savory intensity of this cool-climate Syrah without masking it with an obvious winemaking signature. The result is a benchmark expression of both grape and place. Aromas and flavors of violets, cracked peppercorn, blackberry preserve, cured meat, cast iron, spiced citrus peel, and dried rose petal unfold beautifully in the glass. Despite its cool-climate pedigree and savory, brooding character, the wine is surprisingly approachable, with a lovely core of fruit on the mid-palate that makes it especially drinkable. A wonderful Syrah, made even more compelling by our incredible Insider’s Advantage pricing. All this quality and pedigree for under $20? Just wow. Load up - you won’t regret it. Cheers!

2024 Laberinto "Cenizas" Sauvignon Blanc Valle de Maule
Reviwer Picture By: John Archuleta | Review Date: 4/14/2026 | Send Email
I seriously do not know what took me so long to review this wine - ever since first tasting the line up from Laberinto, I have been HOOKED. This wine really rivals some of my favorite - and higher priced, I might add - sauv blancs from Sancerre. On the nose, you get a bit of salinity and flinty mineral, with a hint of light green herbs like lemon thyme and and very faint rosemary - all rounded out with this nice white tea note. On the palate you get notes of underripe peach, nectarine, river slate, and just really nice racey acidity - a perfect wine for the upcoming hot days. If you are like me and are looking for some alternatives from some of the more pricier Sancerre's or French Sauvy B's, but still want that layered complexity, this is right up there and should be an instant pick.

Michel Arnould "Gènese" Verzenay Grand Cru Extra Brut Champagne
Reviwer Picture By: Gary Westby | Review Date: 4/14/2026 | Send Email
This is Verzenay grand cru Pinot Noir in its purest form. I love this wine for its intricate hazelnut aromas, its frame of warm baguette toast and electric, bracing back-end acidity. With fantastic texture and tiny bubbles from over four years of ageing on the lees, this Genese Extra Brut is dry, but not austere. I love it with sushi to go, but it has enough substance to drink on its own. What an incredible deal in grand cru champagne!

1984 Destileria Colombiana 33 Year Old "Distinctive Spirits - Ancient Rum Series" Cask Strength Port Pipe Finished Colombian Rum (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: David Othenin-Girard | Review Date: 4/13/2026 | Send Email
This expression from the wonderful line of old Colombian rums by Distinctive Spirits is a stupendous value, but also offers a uniquely contrasting character compared to the other three vintages. The most “youthful” of the group remains impressively concentrated and complex, yet carries an added layer of pungent fruit and lifted aromatics. Let’s give it a try. The color is a deep reddish auburn (1.4). The fruit-forward profile is complemented by a touch of funky rum depth, a welcome and compelling feature here. The port influence still shows with sweet red fruit on the nose, but there’s also a pronounced orchard fruit character alongside earthy herbs and spice. On the palate, dried fruits and fondant are balanced by a juicy vibrancy that gives the whole package incredible lift and invites another sip. While this may be slightly less dense and dark in flavor than the others, it certainly does not lack complexity. Taken together, the four expressions represent an incredible range of character built around this remarkable old spirit, which may never again be available at this price, or at all.

2018 Anonymous Wine Collective "Extended Tirage" Sonoma Coast Brut Sparkling Wine
Reviwer Picture By: Philip Roufail | Review Date: 4/12/2026 | Send Email
"En tirage" is a French term to describe how long a champagne ages on its lees (the dead yeast cells that remain after the second fermentation in the bottle). In Champagne, the minimum requirement for vintage champagne is 3 years by law. In America, we do whatever we want. There are no rules, yet this Anonymous sparkling wine spends a full 7 years on the lees before disgorgement and release. 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir, it is medium bodied, rich mid palate, with notes of vanilla and lemon cream, orchard fruit, pie crust, nectarine, ginger, and peaches in syrup.

One of the finest Gruner Veltliners that I've had so far this year. Once given a little air, it opens up with some very nice floral scents and orchard fruits. On the palate, again after airing, the palate becomes fuller though by no means oily. There are some very excellent tropical fruit flavors that combine with grapefruit and lime. There is also a nice, shaved ginger undercurrent. So appealing!

2023 Zind-Humbrecht Rangen de Thann "Clos St-Urbain" Riesling Grand Cru Alsace

Don't let the silky aspect of this wine fool you! It also has very generous acidity with green and yellow citrus fruit. Under all of that are some fantastic flavors of ginger spice and tart white peaches. In place of petrol scents is an extremely intriguing smoky scent that is neither too strong nor overpowering. It adds to the exotic intrigue of this bottling. This baby is built for the cellar. It will only get more complex and the acidity will mellow. I'm looking forward to pouring this for our customers today (4/11) to see what they think of it!

Launois "Veuve Clemence" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Reviwer Picture By: Kerry Kennell | Review Date: 4/9/2026 | Send Email
Launois Veuve Clémence Grand Cru Champagne exemplifies incredible quality that easily outshines Champagnes at more than double the price point. Textures from an impossibly fine perlage and seductively silky mousse caress the plate upon entry. It presents on the dry side of Brut with crisp green apple, lightly toasted hazelnuts, and chalky minerals that delight and set the mind ticking away trying to parse out the how and why this wine is so fantastic. The lingering honeyed finish inspires a yearning thirst for more. Like all top-tier bubbly, don't drink this too cold. It will come off as steely and the richly rewarding mid-palate will be muted. This is an exquisite example of why the Champagne category shares a chamber in my heart with my most treasured epicurean delights. Whenever we get a shipment from Launois, a family-owned and -operated, grower-producer Champagne house that was established in 1872, I buy a bottle of everything they make without question. I would’ve bought an entire case of Veuve Clémence but I didn't want to be greedy as we get such limited quantities.

The Derot Delugny Milieu Naturel Blanc de Noirs is more about its pinpoint-perfect texture than it is about any individual flavor profile. 100% Meunier from the oldest grower-producer in this region, the wine is seductively silky, with fine, shiny bubbles and a broad, mouth-filling texture. Neither rich and heavy nor lean and acid-driven, it is layered with juicy pear, golden apple, and French baguette with a hint of raspberry trailing into the silky, creamy finish. This may be one of the most texturally appealing Champagnes I've ever had the pleasure of tasting, and I can't wait to have more.

Ever since tasting the champagnes of Jean Jacques Lamoureux, many years ago, I fell in love with them. This brand spanking new release is not only delicious, but it is also extremely unique in that it is 100% Pinot Blanc and we receive very, very few Champagnes made with this varietal. It has a very pretty nose of white flowers, honeysuckle, cream, and white stone fruits. On the palate, it starts out rather delicately, with lychee and tangerine. After that, lush with cream, like a cross between homemade whipped cream and a tart lemon meringue. Delicious! It finishes with bright minerals and key lime. So very interesting and unique. This is one to sip slowly and enjoy! Such a nice surprise from winemaker Vivien Lamoureux.

Krug "Grande Cuvée" 172ème Édition Brut Champagne
Reviwer Picture By: Gary Westby | Review Date: 4/9/2026 | Send Email
How can one bottle of champagne have so much going on inside it? Not only does this have the toasty brioche richness that one expects from Grande Cuvée upfront, it also has spectacular citrus refreshment on the back end, and a layered, chalky, expansive finish that mesmerized me. The fact that this wine took 26 years to create does something to explain it- the bottle contains wines from 1998 to 2016! Krug Grande Cuvée is and expensive wine no doubt, but I believe it to be the best value of the true icons- so much of the ageing has been done for you in Reims, yet there is still so much potential for more cellaring... But now that the wine is almost sold out, it is showing so well that I'll have to bury it in my cellar to keep my hands off of it!

Krug "Grande Cuvée" 173ème Édition Brut Champagne

When I tasted this edition at Krug, it immediately reminded me of one of my favorites when it was young—the 160th, with the youngest element being 2004. With a white gold color, this wine has a fantastic bouquet of drawn butter, black truffle, and Pulingy-Montrachet like lime- the last element almost certainly due the fantastic quality of the youngest vintage in the blend, 2017. The combination of richness and lively acidity, decadence, and chalk are unique to Grande Cuvée- I believe this is one of the great wines of the world!

Launois "Veuve Clemence" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Reviwer Picture By: Philip Roufail | Review Date: 4/9/2026 | Send Email
Launois continues to be one of our most popular grower-producers. Based in the Cote des Blancs Grand Cru village of Mesnil, arguably the gold standard for Chardonnay in Champagne, their portfolio boasts a range of exceptional Blanc de Blancs and Chardonnay dominant blends, mostly all Grand Cru. The "Veuve Clemence" is a customer favorite for those who like leesy, brioche-y champagne. Vintage champagne must age on the lees for at least three years. Veuve Clemence is a Brut Non-Vintage, yet has four years on the lees to its credit. On the nose lemon-lime, saline, caramel, butterscotch, and candied fruit. On the palate, medium bodied, baked pastry crust, sourdough, lees, citrus, with a long creamy finish. If you're a fan of the Cuvee Reserve, you should definitely try the Clemence!

Russell's Reserve "New PALS - Coast to Coast" Single Barrel #24-0085 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Reviwer Picture By: Josh Gelfand | Review Date: 4/9/2026 | Send Email
Sometimes a great barrel just finds its way to you, and that is exactly what happened here. Our good friends at Wild Turkey surprised us with this one right as we kicked off our New York adventure, and we could not be happier to have another beautiful expression of the Russell family’s finest. This barrel was dumped just a month shy of nine years old, delivering all the warm spice, bold caramel, and rich, wood-driven layers we have come to expect from the Lawrenceburg legends. The nose is woody and herbaceous, with cedar and oak intermingling with thyme and mint. Winter spices like clove and allspice round things out, resting on hints of banana bread and peanut brittle. The first sip leans into cinnamon and cardamom, followed by notes of sarsaparilla and lemon verbena. Fresh-baked bran muffins and a red apple sweetness emerge before settling back into oak and mahogany, with a wisp of fresh hay carrying the finish. It closes warm, easy, and comforting in that unmistakable Russell’s way. This is a fantastic welcome to New York for us at K&L, and a clear sign of great things to come.

Notes of cream and vanilla perfume rise from the glass along with mellow wood aromas. Sipping presents bright, fresh spice and herbs to the mix of flavors. The finish is soothing and brings back the wood and classic vanilla aromas.

Izarra Verte (Green Chartreuse Substitute) Basque Liqueur (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Lesley Jacobs Solmonson | Review Date: 4/9/2026 | Send Email
The soft, green color of this Basque liqueur belies its robust nature. That minty note gives way to a clean, almost candy cane flavor, courtesy of the balsam herb's spearminty-tasting leaves. A hint of cardamom adds a gentle aroma and soft, warm spice backbone, while the celery is clearly noticeable in all its slightly bitter, chlorophyl-like glory. Izarra shares a similar flavor profile to the more muscular and viscous Chartreuse, thanks to many similar herbs and spices. But it certainly asserts its own identity, bringing a softer profile to cocktails like the Bijou, the Last Word, and the Alaska when used in place of Chartreuse. Drink it as a post-prandial digestif, add a dash to a gin and tonic, or let it add some zing to a swizzle.

Dérot-Delugny "Milieu Naturel" Blanc de Noirs Brut
Reviwer Picture By: Gary Westby | Review Date: 4/9/2026 | Send Email
This is an outstanding value in grower champagne and was the number one seller at our "Misunderstood Meunier" tasting! The natural environment for the meunier grape is the western valley of the Marne, so this Derot Delugny Milieu Naturel Blanc De Noirs Brut is aptly named. The Derot family is the oldest grower producer in this sub-region of Champagne, and has been making their own wines for a 100 years. This has given them a lot of patience, and this wine is given a full year in tank before being bottled, then aged for at least three years on the lees before disgorgement. I love the super clean tarte tatin aromas, the delicate pearl of bubbles in the mouth and the fresh finish. What a good bottle of champagne- what a great deal!

Launois "Veuve Clemence" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne
Reviwer Picture By: Gary Westby | Review Date: 4/9/2026 | Send Email
This is the "insiders" Launois, and most of what we can get sells very quickly to people who have visited the property in Mesnil. This comes from the tops and bottoms of the slopes in the grand crus of Mesnil, Cramant and Oger, and is aged for an extra year compared to the reserve. These cooler sites used to be at a disadvantage compared to the mid-slope, but with warmer and warmer vintages this is no longer that cases. This has classic chalky drive and length, with more than a little complexity. Don't get hooked- we never get much and it always goes fast!

Jean-Jacques Lamoureux "Les Amoureux" Pinot Blanc Champagne
Reviwer Picture By: Gary Westby | Review Date: 4/9/2026 | Send Email
This is rare stuff! The Lamoureux Pinot Blanc is one of the very few champagnes to be bottled exclusively with this grape variety, and it has been five years since we got an allocation- Vivien Lamoureux rarely has enough of this to load the press! I love the candied citrus exoticism that show on top of the pain au levin like aromatics, and the richer texture that this grape variety brings. This is broad, silky Champagne, but still has the bead, refreshment and length of top-quality Champagne. I love the hint of pumpkin on the finish and think this would be excellent with any white fish. Don't fall in love, it might be years until we get more!

2018 Hewitt "Estate" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Reviwer Picture By: Ryan Woodhouse | Review Date: 4/9/2026 | Send Email
Hewitt Estate is a true jewel of a vineyard, sitting squarely on the western Rutherford Bench - one of the finest places on earth to grow Cabernet Sauvignon. Its immediate neighbors include Inglenook, BV’s "Ranch No. 1" (the historic source for Georges de Latour), and just nearby you’ll find Scarecrow, Staglin, Morisoli, Bella Oaks, and Greer - an extraordinary collection of pedigree sites sharing the same coveted terroir. The soils here are classic Rutherford Bench: perfectly drained, gravelly alluvial fans spilling off the Mayacamas Mountains to the west. This warm, up-valley location provides the heat needed to fully ripen Cabernet, while the mountains offer crucial afternoon shade, preserving freshness and balance. The result is a wine that marries power and concentration with refinement and nuance. In the cellar, the estate fruit receives meticulous care - optical sorting, small-lot fermentations by block, and élevage in top-tier French oak. The wine opens with deep, layered aromas of dusty redcurrant, blackberry compote, baker’s chocolate, and leather, underscored by warm earth, oak spice, and that telltale iron-tinged minerality of Rutherford’s famed “dust.” On the palate, the structure is polished and fine-grained. After time in bottle, it's approachable and drinking beautifully. Despite its eight years of age, the wine's flavor profile remains quite youthful, brimming with fruit and energy, and clearly built for further development in the cellar. At our exceptional Insider’s Advantage pricing, this is a rare opportunity to secure a truly pedigreed Rutherford Cabernet at a fraction of the cost of its neighbors - many of which command $300–$800 per bottle. Coming from om the outstanding 2018 vintage, this wine delivers all the pedigree and longevity you’d expect. This is the real deal - don’t miss it!

A masterclass in blending by our buy team. For someone who doesn't typically like high-rye bourbons, I am a huge fan of the latest Faultline release. Coming in right at 100 proof, this bourbon is delicious, with notes of cacao, fresh coffee, and citrus peel on the palate and a long, spicy finish. A perfect bourbon for sipping straight or enjoying in a cocktail, at an exceptional price.

2014 Laphroaig 11 Year Old "Redacted Bros" Single Refill Ex-Bourbon Cask Strength Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: David Othenin-Girard | Review Date: 4/8/2026 | Send Email
Part two of the NEW WORLD ORDER of Islay malts. No more paying a ridiculous premium for peated malt. We’re back in the driver’s seat when it comes to killer casks at amazing prices in Scotland these days, all thanks to the incredible work done by our various independent bottlers, and especially the team at Dornoch Distillery, who bottle under the Thompson Bros label. For the US, thanks to some friendly cease and desist letters, the brand is known as Redacted Bros and continues to deliver the coolest casks at the best prices across all of our bottlers. Here we have a specially selected barrel of Laphroaig, which the brothers felt worthy to be adorned with the Dornoch Castle Hotel label. It was, after all, this wonderful, quirky hotel that first put the brothers and their exceptional whisky bar on our radar. It was the brothers, their wild little shed-based distillery, and maybe a really nice golf course that put Dornoch on the map. So they’ve picked last year’s best casks and reserved them for this limited edition label featuring the hotel. This winter Laphroaig is of the highest order. Let’s have a go. The color is the requisite pale gold (0.3). The nose is dense, a pillow of black clouds of smoke, sweet leather, pine fire, sappy salty resin, camphor, roasted pineapple, lemon and chili oil, even sardines. I’m being a bit dramatic, but it’s such an effusive, lovely style I can’t get enough. On the palate, the dark smoke persists, but we also have salted dried fruits, subtle iodine, limestone, lanolin, and wet wool. With water, the smoke tempers and the sweetness comes through a bit more, but I prefer this at full strength even in its youth. A ridiculously good and classic winter Laphroaig of the highest order. Price equals just dumb.
