Utterly clean and delicious aromas of lemon meringue, chiseled chalk and chipped flint show on the attention-grabbing nose of this bottling. There's a lively acidity and chalky grip to the palate, where tight Asian pear and jicama flavors align. (MK)

The 2021 Pinot Noir Radius is a gorgeous wine from a favorable growing season. Velvety berry fruit and elegant structure are the orders of the day. Supple and focused, it is supremely clear and precise, with beautiful curves. Tea leaves, blood orange and sweet black cherry flesh out, expanding like a peacock's tail on the epically long finish. This newer producer really starting hitting its stride in the 2023 vintage, as viticultural improvements on the older vines began to take hold. Juicy yet earthy aromas of blackberry, damp sage and mossy soils lead from the nose into a palate that sizzles with nearly prickly acidity. Flavors of sage, olive and brisk fruit ride across leathery tannins, making an mouthwateringly savory sip.

Indiana’s 450 North Brewing Co. brings strawberry, mango, and pear together in Fruit Fellas, a fruited sour ale packaged in a 16-ounce can. Its combination of berry, tropical, and orchard fruits gives the beer a clearly defined three-fruit concept.

Mexico’s Mixteca extends across parts of Puebla, Oaxaca, and Guerrero, a culturally distinct area with longstanding agave-distilling traditions. The fourth edition of 5 Sentidos’ Colección Mixteca brings together Azul and Papalome agaves from Puebla and is presented as an uncertified mezcal.

Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca, is renowned for a deeply rooted tradition of small-scale agave distillation. This 5 Sentidos release was made by Tío Pedro Hernández Arellanes from Espadín and highlights the “puntas,” the early portion collected during distillation. It is presented as an uncertified Oaxacan mezcal.

Named for the North Texas area code it calls home, Sherman-based 903 Brewers produces this piña colada-inspired hard seltzer with coconut and pineapple. Packaged in a 12-ounce can, it brings a tropical cocktail theme to the brewery’s seltzer lineup.

9north honors the 9th parallel that passes through Panama, one of the lesser known sources of many of the world's highest quality rums. 9north rums are made from sugarcane that is cultivated in the fertile volcanic soil of the Herrera Province at the renowned Destileria Las Cabras, established in 1924. Their "Añoso 8" is a blend of 8-12 year old rums finished in Oloroso Sherry and Madeira casks. Offering nuanced, complex flavors of dark fruit, rich spices and nuts. Few aged rums can offer such a versatile and satisfying experience at this price point and without the use of sweetners or other flavoring. Fantastic on its own and perfect in spirit forward cocktails.

This plush port barrel-finished Bourbon opens with brown sugar, drying to a spiced edged with red fruit notes. Adding a splash of water snaps it into focus, suggesting a slice of cherry pie topped with caramelized brown sugar and maple. *Top 100 Spirits of 2018* (KN)

Growers like Coutelas are making the most innovative wines in Champagne, and no wine in our stock shows that more than the Cuvée Louis Victor. This comes from a single large barrel and is made in the solera style, with wines dating back to 2007 included in the blend. The composition is unknown, as 20% is bottled each year and replaced with the best vin clair in the cellar, regardless of variety. It is then aged for an additional three years on the lees and rested six more months on the cork. This wine has savory, deep richness and fans of Selosse and Krug should take note… It is easily one of the most complex Champagnes that we have on the shelf.

The 2016 Points Unknown, Grenache/Mourvedre/Syrah blend from Sonoma Valley, is powerful, dense and aromatically expressive. Iron, smoke, leather, tobacco and a host of savory inflections add character to this deep, beautifully layered wine. The 2016 is a wine of real character and personality. (AG)

This full-bodied wine shows a more serious side of Chenin Blanc, wrapping a rich texture around baked apple, vanilla and mineral flavors. It is nice and dry, mouthfilling and adds a touch of grippy tannin to cleanse the palate. An addition of 20% Verdejo was blended in. (JG)

Abbot’s Passage was founded by sixth-generation Sonoma vintner Katie Bundschu, extending a family winegrowing history that began in California in 1858. The Crossing is the estate’s field-blend expression, presented here from the 2016 vintage and rooted in Sonoma County’s long tradition of blended red wines.

Sonoma County encompasses 19 distinct American Viticultural Areas, reflecting remarkable geographic diversity across its valleys, mountains and coastal reaches. Abbot’s Passage’s 2014 “The Crossing” is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based red field blend rooted in this historic California wine region.

The 2013 Página Uno is their top of the range, a blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Malbec from Los Chacayes and La Consulta in the Valle de Uco, produced as a micro-vinification in French barriques and an aging period in 70% new oak for two years. This is a serious, powerful and energetic Malbec, with very good depth, still marked by the oak but with sweet tannins and juicy fruit, with good overall balance. Somehow classical, well-oaked and in need of time. But this is very good in its style. (LG)

Ripe blackcurrants, darker cherries, chocolate, baking spices, and new leather-like aromatics all define the 2021 Capella, a deep, full-bodied, absolutely majestic red that has a stunning mid-palate, a broad, layered mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a great finish. As I commented last year, there’s a First Growth Pauillac-like style here, and this deserves 4-6 years of bottle age and will evolve gracefully over the following 2-3 decades. Don’t miss it.

From Abreu's vineyard on Howell Mountain, the 2021 Las Posadas Proprietary Red features floral, violet-like highlights, scents of graphite and crushed stone and layers of dark, ripe fruit. Full-bodied and concentrated, it's deeply textured and tannic, with a long, long finish. Give it some serious cellar time. 98+ (JC)

The 2021 Thorevilos is stunning. What a wine. Inky, deep and marvelously vibrant, the 2021 sizzles with tension. Graphite, crushed rocks, pencil shavings, lavender and menthol are all amplified in this towering, statuesque beauty. All the 2021 Abreu wines are super, but this one has the magic dust. This is as good as it gets. (AG)

What a fantastic fruit forward Pinot Noir from the westside hills of Paso Robles, a terrior which has an unbeilievably unique microclimate perfectly suited for making pinot with a punch! I paired this with spicy chicken parmesean and a mushroom garlic marinara and it was the perfect match! This wine does show the undisputed Paso Robles fruit its famous for, but has the acid and smooth tannins to add balance to its ripeness. A delightfully velvety and food friendly Pinot Noir!

Praise from Decanter: "A highly-respected grower with one of the best collections of old Calvados around, normally showing notes of baked apples and licorice." Located in Normandy, the Camut family has farmed 115 acres and grown 25 different types of apples for centuries. They carefully craft cider from their apples, then age it for 11 months in barrel. The cider is double distilled from the property's wood-fueled stills (one is 75 years old!), then aged and transfered for years between neutral barrels and foudres until it achieves a luscious complexity. The Prestige is 40 to 50 years old. Tasting notes from the producer: "Deep Amber. Tremendous legs. Nutty vanilla on the nose. Deep notes of preserved, baked apple, smoke, and prune. Impeccably balanced, earthy complexity. Long, pure finish." Break out your snifter--this is the good stuff!

This is the grand daddy of the Camut Calvados. This contains brandy older than 35 years.

This easy-going, six-year-old from Adrien Camut is so mellow that the drinking experience might seem akin to a reggae beat. Honeyed-gold in color, there’s an affable, round, expressive nose of fresh apple and toffee, and in the mouth it’s rich and mouthcoating, with notes of coffee and chocolate that are balanced by freshness on the midpalate that glides into a lengthy finish. Perfumed and aromatic, this opens with soaring floral notes typical of the vintage before revealing additional layers of delicate complexity with a hint of smoke and sweet calamansi. A step up in sappiness on the nose from the preceding samples, with notes of mint and orange zest lifting the aromas of cherry, raspberry and red licorice. Lush, suave and intense on the palate, with excellent inner-mouth tension to the red berry, mineral and spice flavors. Lovely fruit and energy here. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2015 Albert Bichot (Domaine du Clos Frantin) Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Malconsorts" (96JM, 96VN, (91-94BH), 94WS). Vinous: "The 2015 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru seems to have been born to embarrass my rather tepid reaction to this wine from barrel. Wow! This has me smitten. It offers a very floral, seductive bouquet with pressed violet petals liberally scattered over the black cherry and wild strawberry fruit, and just a hint of vanilla in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin. This is very cohesive, harmonious and silky-smooth in texture, with a light touch of blood orange and brown spices that impart complexity on the finish. Excellent. The 2024 Pinot Blanc is a blend of Pinot Blanc from 60-year-old vines and Auxerrois planted in 1946 and 1943, grown on granite. Tart, fresh pear is framed by lemon zest on the nose. These taut, citric notions carry onto the palate, where they are colored by riper, rounder pear. This strikes a perfectly concentrated but light balance and is bone dry. (Bone-dry) (AK)

From vines planted in 1937, Romirasco sports its classic balsamic herb accents joined by tobacco, cigar smoke, nutmeg and liquorice. A mix of macerated berries, wild brambles and grenadine saturate the thick, concentrated palate. Vertical tannins are upfront and immediate – dry and rigid on the one hand but juicy on the other. This will need time to digest both its structure and wood before black pepper and rosemary anchor the finish. The estate trialled slightly cooler fermentation temperatures in 2022, giving a longer fermentation period, while macerations were shortened to just two weeks. The idea was to manage extractions while still coaxing out the distinct personalities of each cru. (MM)
