The 2008 Brut Blanc de Blancs, picked in the Côte des Blancs, underwent full malolactic fermentation and spent over ten years on lees. Lemon and wet chalk are distinct yet subtle on the nose, with their salty, bright, precise trail continuing onto the palate, where deeper saltiness reigns. This wine manages to be rich, smooth and sinuously slender and linear at the same time, with deep, delicious, umami-resonant savoriness. It is a wonderful wine of great elegance, with superb freshness and youthfulness. Lovely now, with nuance and even an overtone of licorice, but certain to evolve. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. (AK)

The 2023 Tignanello is a classy, polished wine. Soft and open-knit with lovely, forward fruit and bright acids, the 2023 is a total delight. Floral, spice and blood orange overtones meld into a core of red Sangiovese-driven fruit. There's a touch more Cabernet Franc in this year's blend. That comes through in the wine's aromatic presence. Yet again, this Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon stands shoulder to shoulder with Harlan, Futo, Opus One, and Dalla Valle. Crafted by Maayan Koschitzky, it combines fruit from Vine Hill Ranch, Tench, Collinetta (Coombsville), Beckstoffer George III, and Sleeping Lady, and is aged for 20 months in 77% new French oak. The colour is inky crimson. The aromatics lift effortlessly from the glass, offering pure black cherry and blackberry fruit, cool Oakville sagebrush, and elegant cedarwood, all backed by ironstone and graphite. That rich fruit drives a full-bodied palate with a crème de cassis character and supple tannins. Loads of oak spice redolent of ground espresso-bean fuel tine finish, layered with blue fruit, dark chocolate, black sea salt, and juicy blood-orange acidity.

A firm, linear style, featuring black cherry, black currant, licorice, iron and spice aromas and flavors. Though firmly structured and compact, there's an energy here and an overall balance that makes this red compelling. Ends with a terrific finish, evoking fruit, spice and underbrush accents. (BS)

This is very precise with dried-lemon, mango and pineapple aromas and a touch of fresh herbs. It’s full-bodied with complex bitterness and intensity on the finish. Almost smoky at the end. Aging beautifully. Screw cap.

A very mild trace of reduction does not completely hide the densely fruited and well-layered nose of red berries, plum and distinct floral notes, all of which are intermingled with mineral nuances. The rich, round and impressively intense flavors possess both excellent volume and dry extract that partially buffers the very firm tannic spine, all wrapped in a mouth coating and seriously long finish. This is a big Chapelle with plenty of underlying material that should permit this to age beautifully.

A pretty nose of airy and ripe red pinot fruit that displays a touch of earth leads to round, supple and sweet flavors that possess good vibrancy and excellent mid-palate fat on the mouth coating and pure finish. This is altogether lovely with balance, depth and while it's not overly concentrated, the harmony of expression is lovely.

The 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru came across subtly on the nose compared to the les Amoureuses and required more patience when tasted from barrel. It is not a flamboyant or ostentatious Bonnes-Mares, prioritizing precision and classicism, not to imply that it shortchanges you on the intensity ones expects from this vineyard. The palate is fresh from the start: a wonderful structure and especially for Bonnes-Mares, outstanding mineralité in situ and very tensile with so much energy from the blueberry and blackberry fruit that you can feel this wine two minutes later. Bridled with impressive grip and structure, this is a bona fide grand vin.(NM)

Mugnier's 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Village is beautiful, wafting from the glass with a pretty nose of raspberry, strawberry, sweet spices and peony. On the palate, the wine is bright, weightless and medium to full-bodied, with satiny tannins, fruit of crystalline purity and a long, sappy finish. This is an exquisitely transparent Chambolle Village that exemplifies Mugnier's ethereal style. Produced from 1.3-hectares of vines in the lieux-dits of La Combe d'Orvaux and 1er Cru Les Plantes. A slightly riper blend of red and blue pinot fruit, violets and plenty of warm earth also suffuses the rich, full-bodied and very serious broad-shouldered flavors. This enjoys an abundance of tannin-buffering dry extract that confers a sappy texture to the driving, complex and hugely long finish. This is a first-rate example of this uneven appellation and well worth considering.

The 2001 Dominus is one of the most backward wines of the vintage. Readers who own it will have to be patient, as the 2001 needs a few years to still be at its best! Time in the glass brings out huge dark fruit along with hints of iron, gravel, spice and leather that add to its brooding, imposing personality. The 2001 is approachable with a few hours of air, but is very much a powerhouse. Boris Champy was the winemaker, while Jean-Claude Berrouet was the consulting winemaker. (AG)

Small concentrated berries from a long harvest that lasted from 1st September 1 to 19th October. Michael Salacci arrived as winemaker this year, taking over as Patrick Léon retired. This was the first time that Opus had its own winemaker, and immediatley you feel the impact of his work. He felt instinctively that Opus needed to go richer, and from this point on it more regularly hits the Californian stride. It comes through in the construction of the wine, almost chewy, with striking, sexy dark chocolate, black pepper and cassis fruits, still with great acidity to keep things raising towards the finish. This was also the first vintage released to the Bordeaux marketplace - so signalling a period of immense change. The wine stands up well and has a long life ahead. 3% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 32 days skin contact. Harvest from September 1 to October 19. (JA)

Ripe, buttery fruit aromas touched with hints of spice, cream and acacia blossoms make a showy first impression. It carries through on the palate with admirable richness and depth of flavour, to a long, complex finish. Yet it's the wine’s finesse and elegance that makes it genuinely outstanding. The domaine farms four parcels in Bâtard, most of it on the Puligny side, including some very old vines that give the wine its characteristic structure and depth. (CC)

The 2022 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru bursts from the glass with scents of crushed limestone, lemon thyme, a touch of orange blossom and linseed. This wine shows lovely, life-affirming complexity and intensity. The palate is harmonious with a killer line of acidity. It's incredibly pure, and there's a peacock's tail on the finish. The 2022 builds supremely well with each sip and conveys a sense of completeness that is just very Chevalier-Montrachet. Magnificent. (NM)

Derived from old vines planted in the stonier, upper reaches of Morgeot, Dancer's 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Tête du Clos is once again one of the high points of the range, bursting with aromas of pear, orange zest, white flowers, freshly baked bread and toasted nuts. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and textural, with a fleshy core of fruit, racy acids and an elegantly gourmand profile, it will offer a broad drinking window. (WK)

A more mineral style from a plot at the top of the cru. This is later ripening and it retains the acidity. This has long, smooth and majestic style with a wealth of peaches. Very smooth and ripe with a grilled-hazelnut finish. Good freshness for the vintage. Pastry-like and succulent at the finish, too. Superior length.

Abruzzo’s most iconic white wine, Valentini's Trebbiano d’Abruzzo undergoes spontaneous fermentation in big botti and hits the market three and a half years after harvest. The 2018 vintage only hints at its long-term potential, unveiling subdued aromas of ripe melon, cinnamon and quince, with a touch of underlying earthiness. Ample and creamy on the palate, it offers layers of juicy stone fruits and acacia honey backed by refreshing acidity and piercing minerality. Hints of undergrowth and toast complicate the long and pure finish. (AF)

The 2022 Sauvignon Peri is youthfully coiled with a nuanced blend of nectarines and peaches accentuated by sweet spice and chamomile. This soothes with its round textures and juicy acidity as ripe pit fruits settle upon the palate. It finishes with saline tension and a staining of lemony concentration and spice. While understated today, the 2022 Peri is holding its power in reserve. Don't underestimate it. (EG)

Aromas of warm stones, dark fruits and walnuts follow to a full body, soft tannins and a savory finish. This shows ripe fruit and salty undertones that give it a wonderful juiciness. It's dense and tight now but will give so much pleasure in the future. Best ever from here.
