Reviewed October 2026A very umami, savory nose of pepper, earth, hot tar, crushed rocks and old leather is balanced out by a palate that presents tart berries and lots of citrus, beneath a sprinkle of salt and pepper. The finish unveils a spiced, bitter cocoa element, wrapping up a wine which is layered, dense and substantial, but also agile, directed and linear.

The 2022 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo opens in the glass with a burst of wild berries, sage and wilted violets. It is soft and round, with depths of ripe red and blue fruits swirling throughout. Towards the close, the wine takes on steely minerality. A sensation of liquid stone lingers while the 2022 takes on a savory edginess, ending on a spicy rosemary note.
