A very mild trace of reduction does not completely hide the densely fruited and well-layered nose of red berries, plum and distinct floral notes, all of which are intermingled with mineral nuances. The rich, round and impressively intense flavors possess both excellent volume and dry extract that partially buffers the very firm tannic spine, all wrapped in a mouth coating and seriously long finish. This is a big Chapelle with plenty of underlying material that should permit this to age beautifully.

Jean-Louis’ 2010 Chapelle-Chambertin was showing very well indeed in March of this year, which is not presently the case for a great number of 2010s, many of which are in a state of hibernation. However, this wine was showing enormous potential, wafting from the glass in a deep, refined and nascently complex blend of cherries, red plums, raw cocoa, a beautiful base of soil tones, mustard seed and a touch of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and very elegant in personality, with lovely sappiness at the core, suave tannins and a long, complex and very classy finish. This is not all that far away from really blossoming and should drink with great distinction for a long, long time to come. (Drink between 2021-2075) 94+

The 2010 Chapelle-Chambertin is a haunting wine graced with exquisite aromatics and layers of silky fruit. This is all class and elegance. The 2010 boasts striking inner perfume and sweetness all the way through to the finish. There is a level of textural brilliance and finesse here that is just plain gorgeous. (AG)

Palish red. Ethereal, high-pitched aromas of raspberry, orange peel, rose petal, menthol and iron. Silky on entry, then tight and closed in the middle, showing little easy sweetness today but communicating an impression of very strong dry extract. Explosive on the back end, but this extremely promising, youthfully austere wine will need a decade in bottle to expand and express itself. (ST) 93+
