A huge success in the vintage is the 2015 Château Suduiraut and this gem goes a long way towards showing how successful the sweet wines were in 2015. Offering a massive array of orange peel, honey, marmalade, flowers, and toasted nuts, this incredible wine hits the palate with a thunderous display of opulence, richness, and length, all while staying fresh, elegant, and seamless. It has a huge mid-palate and is reminiscent of the 2003, only with more freshness and delineation.
Bid on this 6-bottle tasting lot; including 3-bottles of 2017 Donnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Auslese #17 Goldkapsel Nahe (375ml) (98JS, 95JG, 95VN) and 3-bottles of 2018 Dönnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Auslese #23 Goldkapsel Nahe (375ml) (97JS, 95JG, 93VN, 93WS). Of the 2017 Donnhoff Oberhäuser Brücke Riesling Auslese #17 Goldkapsel Nahe (375ml), James Suckling writes: "Hold on to your hat! This is so concentrated and so filigree. Somewhere in this tightly coiled maelstrom of flavors is a bunch of sweetness. Yet, every time you think you've got it, it slips away. Breathtakingly long and fresh finish. From organically grown grapes. Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold. Very limited production. " (09/2018)

Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 1975 Trotanoy, Pomerol (375ml) (97RP, 96ST, 96VN, 94JG). Wine Advocate: The 1975 Trotanoy can be an extraordinary wine on the right day. This was the right day. Served blind from a magnum, unaware of its age, I was struck by the depth of its color. The bouquet is almost ineffably complex, a mixture of red and black fruit, black truffle (indicating its Pomerol origins), sage and dried rose petals. It was the delineation and sheer confidence of the aromatics that leaves you spellbound. The palate is beautifully structured, very Left Bank in style thanks to its tertiary nature, yet bridled with disarming tension and energy from start to finish. There is a twist of sour cherry right on the aftertaste, completing a stunning Trotanoy. I very much doubt I will ever encounter an example of this outstanding Pomerol as good as this again. Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 1989 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml) (100JA, 99RP, 97DC, 97ST, 97VN, 97WS). Jane Anson: This took home the audience award at the 67 Pall Mall tasting that I was hosting, with good reason. What a brilliant example of why Sauternes should be left to gather nuance and to shed its more exuberant, fattier early years before opening. This is just a masterclass in the layers and complexity that you find in fully mature Yquem; saffron, truffle, pineapple, quince, lime, apricots and lemon. Hugely persistent with a squeeze of scraping slate acidity through the final few minutes that gives a dry but mouthwatering finish. It is clearly in its tertiary phase in terms of the type of aromatics, and the beautiful amber, rose-gold colour, but there is no sense that it is beginning to run out of steam. A concentrated, gloriously balanced Yquem that has decades ahead of it, and fully justifies the reputation of the vintage... (01/2021)

Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 1986 Certan de May, Pomerol (375ml) (93JG, 93WS). Wine Spectator: The plum and coffee aromas and flavors merge nicely with the toast and vanilla overtones from good oak barrels. Harmonious and elegant now, it can develop only more nuances with age. (09/1989)

Bid on this 1-half-bottle lot of 2007 Joseph Phelps Eisrébe Napa Valley Late Harvest Scheurebe (375ml) (93RP, 91ST). Wine Advocate: The 2007 Eisrebe, made from 100% Scheurebe, has 7.8% alcohol and 23 grams of residual sugar. It falls between an Auslese and Beerenauslese in style, offering notes of marmalade, maple syrup, and caramelized tropical fruit, terrific acidity, and beautiful purity. (RP) (12/2008)

One of the highlights of the vintage, the 2023 Coutet is exquisite, revealing aromas of pear, white peach, beeswax, pineapple and ripe apricot intertwined with spices and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, dense and concentrated yet without heaviness, it is fleshy and generous, built around an enveloping, vibrant core of fruit framed by racy acidity that extends into an endless, ethereal finish. Marrying the inherent vivacity of Barsac’s limestone terroirs with the concentration of the year, this ranks among my favorite renditions and may well be one of the finest wines produced here in recent times. The 2023 Suduiraut is a model of modern Sauternes. Orange peel, burnt sugar, crème-brûlée, tangerine peel, and wild flowers inform a Sauternes of total finesse and silkiness. Yields were a measly 12 hectoliters per hectare. The 150 grams of residual sugar are not especially evident. Everything about the 2023 is perfectly judged. It can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring or cellared for decades. The 2023 is a timeless wine that is among the most notable successes of the year. (AG)
Very polished and focused this year with blackberry and blueberry character, as well as blackcurrants. Medium body. Fine tannins. Lovely length.
Bid on this 1-half-bottle lot of 1988 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml) (99RP, 97TWI, 96VN, 94WS). Wine Advocate: The 1988 is a backward-styled Yquem, built along the lines of the extraordinary 1975. With a honeyed, smoky, orange/coconut/pineapple-scented nose, this powerful wine possesses full body, layers of highly concentrated, extracted flavors, considerable botrytis, and a sensational finish. Of the 2003 Lafaurie-Peyraguey, Sauternes (375ml), James Suckling writes: "This is full body, very sweet with an amazing depth of fruit and spices. Loads of botrytis character. Dried pineapple and apple character. Tight and closed. Best ever from here." (10/2012)

Expect honey, dried apricot, candied peach, quince and orange marmalade layered with smoke, saffron, ginger and a mineral edge, with an unctuous, concentrated palate balanced by bright acidity and an exceptionally long finish. Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 1997 Dal Forno Romano Recioto della Valpolicella (375ml) (98RP, 97VN), the legendary sweet red from Romano Dal Forno, the uncompromising Veneto master whose Amarone and Recioto rank among Italy’s most sought-after wines. Made from Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes air-dried for up to six months and aged in French oak, it pours inky black with the thick consistency of olive oil. Wine Advocate writes: “Tones of chocolate, hickory smoke, prune, cinnamon cake, black plum, root beer, crushed granite and licorice have the bright intensity of primary colors on a painters’ wheel. The mouthfeel is solid, thickly concentrated and delightfully sweet... Almost indestructible, a wine like this will age longer than most. (ML)” (10/2013)

The dried-mango and pineapple character is so delicious in this wine. It’s full-bodied and medium-sweet, with a pretty density and a fruity finish. Wonderful balance to this super Sauternes. This is a little in reserve now, with so much for the future.
The process is a painstaking labor of love. A blend of Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes are hand-harvested and then hung to dry (appassimento) in airy lofts for months, concentrating their sugars and flavors. The thick, sweet juice is then pressed and sealed in small oak and chestnut barrels, called caratelli, where it ferments and ages slowly for at least a decade in the vinsantaia—a process that exposes it to the natural temperature fluctuations of the seasons. It is rich and lusciously sweet but with a vibrant, electrifying acidity that cuts through the richness, preventing it from ever feeling cloying. This is a wine to be sipped slowly on its own at the end of a meal, or paired with the classic Cantucci (almond biscotti). A small bottle will last for weeks after opening, its flavors continuing to evolve. This wine is immortal; you can keep it in the cellar for generations.

The 2017 Vin Santo del Chianti Classico is rich, layered and wonderfully complete. Apricot jam, orange confit, lightly honeyed notes and dried herbs are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. The 2017 is potent and rich, but not at all heavy. Bright acids pull it all together on the long, sustained finish. (AG)
Small-batch brewing from San Francisco, California. This light and crisp Kolsch-style ale is all about balance: made from Warrior and Saphir hops to give it an American-style bitterness, plus German malts to provide balance a with creamy toastiness.
Standard pocket corkscrew with hinged brace.
A bright and delicious white with gooseberry, citrus-blossom and crushed-stone character. It’s mineral and fresh with a medium body and vivid acidity. Tense and energetic with an attractively phenolic finish.
Very firm, focused and concentrated, showing pure black cherries and blackcurrants on a lively frame of nervy acidity and moderate tannins. Mouthwatering acidity, with fruit expanding on the palate and spices like cloves and cinnamon developing. Drink now or hold. (JG)

Blending 76% Zinfandel, 14% Petite Sirah, 7% Carignane, 2% Alicante Bouschet and 1% Mataro from an estate vineyard in Dry Creek Valley purchased in 1972, the 2023 Zinfandel Lytton Springs exhibits initial chewiness that leads to fine tannins, with a good heft and underlying acidity. Well-woven oak supports a moderately ripe, medium-bodied frame of structured elegance, aged in 100% air-dried American oak. Enjoy now through 2033.
Founded by Augustinian monks in 1328, Munich’s Augustiner-Bräu is the city’s oldest independent brewery. Its Lagerbier Hell belongs to the pale lager tradition closely associated with Munich and Bavaria. This 11.2-ounce bottle offers a classic German beer style from a brewery with nearly seven centuries of history.
These are totally worth it and this little jar goes a long way. My favorite use is the Three Dots and a Dash tiki drink, but the applications here are far-reaching. Be "nose to tail" and spoon the extra syrup on some ice cream or something. It's amazing. Just *DON'T PUT THE OPEN JAR IN THE FRIDGE*. It will crystalize and get ruined. This stuff is so sweet like molasses it's completely preserved at room temperature, and the label will tell you so as well.
One of the most profound wines of the vintage is the 2023 Cheval Blanc, a striking wine that stands out for its strong sense of identity and seamless integration at such an early stage in its life. Wafting from the glass with notes of mulberries, lilac, dark fruits, iris root and violets, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and seamless, with a gourmand core of cool, vibrant fruit that entirely conceals its sweet structuring tannins, concluding with a long, perfumed finish. It's a blend of 52% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Franc and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon, drawing on fully 46 of the blocks that make up Cheval Blanc, and it attained 13.8% alcohol. (WK)
Vivid mango, dried apricot and barley sugar intensity sets the tone and invigorates the golden syrup sweetness. Gorgeous lemon acidity pierces the potent concentration offering tension and complementing the grace and power of the lengthy finish. (DWWA)

Bid on this 3-half-bottle lot of 2005 Rieussec, Sauternes (375ml) (97RP, 96WS, 95IWR, 94WE, 93JS, 93VN). Wine Advocate: The 2005 Rieussec is a blend of 90% Sémillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle picked between 23 September and 27 October. It has a fabulous bouquet that is mineral-rich and tensile. The palate repeats its performance from last year: focused, tense, laden with botrytis-rich fruit with a crystalline and sorbet-fresh finish that seals the deal. One of the best releases from the estate in recent years. (NM) (01/2017)

Wine Spectator: A lovely, creamy, tropical style, with mango, papaya and guava notes lending a caressing feel, while singed almond and warm piecrust accents blossom through the lush finish. Just when you think that's all there is, toasted coconut, fig, orange blossom and persimmon details kick in, lending length and dimension. Bid on this 1-half-bottle lot of 1999 d'Yquem, Sauternes (375ml) (97DC, 96TWI, 93JG, 92RP). Decanter: The intensity of the rich, heady melange of apricots, orange pith, ginger and mango flavours is profound, but the balance of all the elements and its luscious crème brûlée texture is what makes you swoon. It’s complex, savoury, rich, intense, long and elegant. The 1999 vintage was classified as difficult, with rain in September and October, but the fruit retained fabulous acidity that perfectly balances the extraordinary residual sugar of 128.2g per litre into dreamy, harmonious meld. Bid on this 6-half-bottle lot of 1976 & 1975 Joseph Phelps Selected Late Harvest Napa Valley Johannisberg Riesling (375ml). In previous eras of California winemaking, Johannisberg Riesling was commonly seen on labels. It was likely for some sake of marketing, as Schloss Johannisberg was historically the most famous estate in Germany and the first to plant Riesling exclusively. The Johannisberg eventually fell away in California, but over the years a few producers did produce successful botrytised dessert wines in the method of German Beerenauslese.

There is perhaps no better match for a dozen oysters than minerally Sancerre from one of the best producers in the region. This release is always a cut above textbook Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc, with bright acidity, smoke, citrus and grassiness. Hippolyte Reverdy's family has been making wine in the charming village of Verdigny, a commune of Sancerre in the eastern Loire, for many generations--perhaps as far back as 1600. Traditional in nature, the farm was planted to multiple crops, and the Reverdys raised goats and made small quantities of wine from their own vines for local consumption. It was not until the end of World War II that Hippolyte began increasing his Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir production, selling it to accommodate increasing demands from Paris. Hippolyte and his three sons began bottling small quantities under their own label, although the lion’s share of the grapes was still being sold off to the local cave coopérative. Michel joined his father and brothers in 1971, shortly after finishing high school. Since Michel has taken the reins, Reverdy has become the benchmark domaine of our day for the appellation.
The 2023 Dominus is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot. Opaque purple-black in color, it slowly unfurls to reveal a powerful core of blackcurrant jelly, ripe black plums, and fresh blueberries, followed by hints of menthol, crushed rocks, dried sage, black truffles, and black olives. The full-bodied palate is both generous and energetic, displaying an impressive array of savory and earthy nuances among the dense black fruit layers and a rock-solid frame of grainy tannins and beautiful tension, finishing with epic length. (LPB)
A lovely enticing nose filled with rich plum, fig and blackcurrant fruits - heady and opulent. The palate is precise with a distinct texture, certainly dense and ripe but the flavours just settle on the tongue giving spiced touches of liquorice but allowing the freshness and acidity to underpin the overall taste. It feels very carefully constructed with everything in place allowing power and generality but neatly packaged and not overdone. (GH)
Tip Top Proper Cocktails packages its Mai Tai in a compact 100mL can. The Mai Tai is generally credited to Victor J. Bergeron, who created it at Trader Vic’s in Oakland in 1944, linking this convenient format to a landmark of American tiki cocktail history.
Brimming with thirst quenching lemon and apricot and engulfed in a roasted sunflower seed and fresh cashew coated palate; extremely decadent with a saline persistence. *Gold Medal 2023 Decanter World Wine Awards*
Sourced from two vineyards in St Helena, this elegant Cabernet has lovely freshness and energy. Aromas of black and red berries and cherries are dusted with herbs and spice, ahead of a deft palate of lifted black fruit with chalky tannins. Judicious oak use – two years in a combination of new and used, small and large barrels – adds the structure for ageing; and this will certainly continue to develop in bottle. (JS)
Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise is a historic southern Rhône vin doux naturel appellation produced primarily from Muscat à Petits Grains. Fermentation is stopped by the addition of grape spirit, retaining naturally occurring grape sugar. Domaine de Durban’s 2021 bottling is presented here in a convenient 375ml format.
Caramel bouquet embellished by a touch of wood spice. Then toffee, fudge and caramel on the palate, with ripe, red-berried fruit coming through on the finish – altogether pleasant and rich.
Aromas of wild blackberries, marionberries, sandstone, crushed violets and rose petals. Medium-bodied with structured, chalky tannins, dark fruit flavors of black cherries and red plums and a long finish. Drink after 2028.
Junmai Daiginjo is a premium sake classification requiring rice polished to 50% or less of its original weight, with no added distilled alcohol. This 720ml First Edition release from Sake Ono is produced in Japan on Honshu, the country’s largest island and its historic center of sake brewing.
If you're looking for a clean and bright sake that will pair well with meats and cheeses and vegetables, look no further. This is it! Of course, it will also pair very well with sashimi and sushi. Clean and quite bright, with light to medium body, it has mellow citrus flavors with white melon and tart green fruits. It widens slightly on the mid-palate and expands with a very nice hint of creaminess. Simply put, it's pretty much perfect with a huge array of foods or just as enjoyable by itself or even in a cocktail. They even gave me a recipe for a Vesper martini with this sake as a key ingredient. That also looks delicious!
