Made by Rudolphe Dupin, the talent behind our best-selling Montfaucon wines, this is a great value from Châteauneuf-du-Pape! Deeply fruited aromatics waft enticingly from the glass and carry straight through to a broad, generous palate full of deep, silky fruits, and touches of wild herbs. Great stuff!
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1998 Paul Autard "La Côte Ronde" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (97WS, 95JD, 93RP, 92ST). Wine Spectator: "Fantastic red. Big-bodied, velvety and suave, with mocha, spice and gorgeous ripe fruit, it walks a thin line between modern and traditional, delivering mineral and terroir quality thanks to its great concentration. The fruit and tannins are so sweet. *Highly Recommended* (PM)" (12/2000)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (97JD, 94DC, 94RP, 93VN). Jeb Dunnuck: "Absolutely firing on all cylinders and with an open, borderline slutty profile, the 2000 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a dream on the nose, showing complex, meaty aromas of black truffle, spice rack, charcuterie, and garrigue. There’s fantastic intensity here and you can smell this wine as soon as the bottle is opened. Just as good on the palate, the wine sports a medium to full-bodied, ripe profile, perfect balance, and a dazzling finish that has you looking for another glass. " (09/2011)

A juicy, vibrant red, with bouncy cherry and rooibos tea layered with dusty earth and charred sandalwood. Smoke wafts out on the smooth, harmonious finish, held in check with chalky tannins. Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault. (KB)

Fresh and complex aromas of black fruits, olives, iris, violet and oak spice make for an inviting nose. The palate boasts a generous and balanced delivery of ripe blueberry, black cherry, mushroom and wild thyme. The finish is delightful with pure fruit that stays long through its clean finish. A beautiful bottling that can be enjoyed in its youth. (ACC)
One of our most popular direct-imports, the price-to-quality ratio we've found in these wines year after year is simply unbeatable. Our customers have come to rely on this family-run winery to provide great quality, drinkability, and value. The 2014 was the first vintage of Châteauneuf-du-Pape produced by Montfaucon. A single hectare of mostly old-vine Grenache with a splash of Mourvedre, yields a deliciously balanced and refined Châteauneuf-du-Pape that shows the integrity of Rudi des Pins' winemaking and an honest representation of the region. A stellar bargain for sure.
In spite of its extreme youth, this great Châteuneuf-du-Pape leaps out at you with its depth of wet-earth, ripe red-berry and dried-flower aromas. Rich and concentrated, but so suave and refined. Incredible length! Can't wait to taste this masterpiece as a bottled wine! (SP)
Bid on this bottle of 1985 Château Rayas "Réservé" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96VN, 94JG, 93RP). Vinous: "I was blown away by the 1985 Châteauneuf-du-Pape. A wine that continued to improve in the glass, it was richly-textured and opulent, with expansive fruit that lingered on the palate for an eternity. It came across as incredibly youthful, in fact I would have never pegged it for a 22-year-old wine had I tasted it blind. (AG)" (08/2007)

Bid on this bottle of 1998 Château Rayas "Reserve" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (93WS, 92VN). Wine Spectator: "This continues to evolve, and always benefits from a lot of air time in the glass (or decanter), which allows its lilting, perfumy aromas and light color to become more concentrated and darker. Cherry, rose petal, pine forest, spice and mineral notes hang on the supple frame with deceptive grip on the finish. (JM)" (09/2007)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1989 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98JS, 97DC, 97JD, 97RP, 97VN, 97WS, 93JG). James Suckling: "This is a floral and elegantly complex edition of this wine with dried meat and leather, iron and graphite, tobacco and dry spices. More elegant palate than the 1990, it has a very fine stream of red fruit and spiced cherries and a central, linear focus. The flavors hold so very long, deeply concentrated and focused. The fruit livens up at the finish and opens very impressively." (10/2019)

Bid on this 5-bottle tasting lot; including 2 1994 Les Cailloux (Lucien & Andre Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape (92JG, 90RP), 1 1995 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape (90RP), and 2 1998 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape (92RP). Of the 1994 Les Cailloux (Lucien & Andre Brunel) Châteauneuf-du-Pape, John Gilman writes: "Of the 1994 Châteauneufs that I have tasted (admittedly a small sampling), Andre Brunel’s Les Cailloux gets my vote as the best of the vintage. This wine is simply an outstanding bottle of Châteauneuf, as it jumps from the glass in a mélange of black berries, woodsmoke, ground pepper, game, green olives, garrigue and a hot stone sous bois. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex and beautifully balanced, with a fine core of fruit, excellent acidity, melting tannins, and great length and grip on the complex finish. Superb stuff with years and years of life ahead of it. (Drink between 2006-2020) " (02/2006)

Dense licorice and forest berry aromas mask the deep tannin structure of this Chateauneuf-du-Pape masterpiece. Full-bodied but with a lightness of touch. Then the power and stony intensity pour over you in a giant wave. The freshness is extraordinary for this hot and dry vintage. Serious tannins in the very long, compact and refined finish. From organically grown grapes. (SP)

Reminding me of the 2020, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape is based on 60% Grenache, 16% each Mourvèdre and Cinsault, and the rest Syrah. Its medium ruby hue is followed by a gorgeous perfume of black raspberries, white pepper, Provençal garrigue, and crushed stone-like minerality. With medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, layered mouthfeel, and ripe, polished, yet building tannins, it's an absolute gem in the vintage that will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and cruise over the following decade or more. 96+
Poised, velvety and fruit-driven, showing red berries, red cherries and tar. Medium-bodied, this has round tannins and refined texture with juicy fruit and a flavorful, pulpy finish.
Based on the same blend of 65% Grenache with lots of Cinsault, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape is gorgeous, showing kirsch, blackberries, sappy spring flowers, pepper, and subtle minerality with an almost scorched earth-like character. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully textured, seamless and layered, it has ultra-fine tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's another sensationally layered, seamless wine from this estate that would best most Grand Cru Red Burgundies in a blind tasting and reminds me slightly of the 2020. Hide bottles for 4-5 years and enjoy over the following 15 years.

Of the 2006 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes, Wine Advocate writes: "A bigger, richer wine than the Chaupin (which is normal), the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes comes from the La Janasse and La Crau lieux-dits, and is 80% Grenache and the balance Syrah and Mourvèdre; the Grenache is raised in foudres and demi-muids, and the Syrah and Mourvèdre are raised in small barrels. Full-bodied, rich, decadent and unctuous on the palate, this beauty gives up fabulous notes of dark fruits, dusty soil, licorice, roasted herbs and toasted spice. (JD)" (03/2016)

Of the 2007 Domaine de Cristia Vieilles Vignes, Wine Advocate writes: "The greatest wine from this estate to date is unquestionably their 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes. Made from 100% old-vine Grenache that was brought up in a combination of different sized barrels, some of which were new, it offers an incredible bouquet of black raspberries, caramelized cherries, violets, garrigue and lavender. Slightly lighter in color and weight when compared to the 2003, it’s showing some maturity and can be consumed anytime, but will without a doubt continue to evolve gracefully. (JD)" (08/2014)

Of the 2003 Pierre Usseglio "Cuvée de Mon Aïeul" Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Wine Advocate writes: "The best bottle of this I've had (and I've had plenty), Usseglio's 2003 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée de Mon Aieul is a blockbuster and one of the true stars of this vintage. Almost all Grenache (there's a small part of Syrah and Cinsault) that was harvest between September 1-13, partially destemmed and aged in both tank and foudre, this massive, voluptuous effort is almost overflowing with notes of ground herbs, chocolate dusted meats, black fruits and licorice. Just now starting to show hints of maturity (bottles from my cellar show more evolution than this one), it’s an incredible Chateauneuf that offers textbook kirsch, licorice, graphite, blackcurrants and spice to go with a full-bodied, layered and voluptuously-styled feel on the palate. Like the other 2003 from this estate, it shows no signs of over ripeness, possesses sweet tannin and beautiful purity. (JD)" (08/2014)

Bid on this bottle of 2003 Domaine du Pegau "Cuvée Reservée" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (98RP, 97WS, 96JD, 93VN). Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvée Reservee stands out as one of the all-time great wines made by Laurence Feraud and her father, Paul. I remember first tasting it from a large tank as it was still fermenting and it was already impressive! It is a full-bodied, powerful wine that must tip the scales at close to 15.5% natural alcohol. I don’t think this big, chewy, voluptuously textured wine will ever close down. Dark plum/garnet with the classic Provencal display of garrigue, lavender, pepper, kirsch and Asian plum sauce, this full-throttle wine has splendid concentration, silky tannins, and a very voluptuous texture. Gorgeous kirsch, flowery incense, spice box, and garrigue-like notes define the nose, and it hits the palate with classic Clos des Papes elegance and finesse backed up by a great mid-palate, fabulous concentration, and a monster of a finish. Of the 2001 Le Clos du Caillou "Les Quartz" Châteaunuef-du-Pape, Wine Advocate writes: "The 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Quartz was a total shocker, and was easily the best bottle of this I’ve had; more than one taster at this retrospective had it as their wine of the tasting. Giving up phenomenal notes of blackcurrants, beef blood, ground pepper and crushed rock, it flows onto the palate with full-bodied richness, outrageous concentration and a finish that won’t quit. I’ve had a few bottles that possessed excessive volatile acidity, but not this bottle, and I seriously toyed with the idea of adding another point on here. Regardless, it’s profound stuff... Made from a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Mourvèdre that was raised mostly in demi-muids, it exhibits awesome notes of blackberry, licorice, smoked herbs, graphite and tinges of minerality. Of the 2000 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Decanter writes: "Clos des Papes is one of the greatest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape – indeed the whole of France – with roots going as far back as 1600. With this in mind, the wines remain remarkably good value. They are the model of Châteauneuf balance and finesse, and that gives them the ability to develop beautifully in bottle for decades... Full-bodied and beautifully concentrated, it offers a seamless, layered profile on the palate with thrilling mid-palate depth, sweet, yet substantial tannin, and a blockbuster finish that stays fresh and beautifully focused. Located in the foothills of Mont Ventoux lies one of the top producers in the Ventoux region of the Rhone - Domaine de Fondreche. Vigneron Sebastien Vincenti took over the winemaking from his mother in 2005. With an eye toward biodiversity and using organic and biodynamic practices for many years, Fondreche was recently certified organic in 2022. The winery sits on a plateau comprised of alluvial soils of clay and gravel with a mix of silex (flint) thrown in for good measure. The Blanc comes from the sandier soils on the property. That cooling soil helps preserve the freshness in the wine. Fermentation is done in stainless steel tank with no malolactic. It is aged in concrete tanks for six months before bottling. It is a blend of 30% Grenache Blanc, 30% Roussanne, 30% Clairette, and 10% Rolle.
Coming from the heart of this terroir and mostly from sandy soils with a small part of pebbly soils and even a touch of limestone, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Trois Sources delivers gorgeous aromatics of black raspberries, spring flowers, framboise, white pepper, and a beautiful salinity and minerality. It's medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered, seamless mouthfeel with the juicy, pure style of the 2023s here, fine tannins, and a gorgeous finish. This is pure Grenache heaven with classic Châteauneuf du Pape power and richness yet paired with remarkable finesse and elegance. It should cruise for two decades in cool cellars.
Pre-Arrival
Juicy, fresh, blackberry-tinged, vibrant, precise and fresh. Subtle violet note with raspberry, minerals and great length. Will be quite Burgundian with age, feels like a classic vintage and you don't feel the 14.5% alcohol at all. All destemmed, aged in old foudres, yields of just 17hl/ha. (MW)
Estimated Fulfillment: 01/09/2027
I was even more impressed by the 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée than the 2019. Boasting crazily complex floral scents, garrigue, raspberries and cherries, this is one incredibly perfumed example of Pegau. Medium to full-bodied, silky, elegant and long, this is quintessential Pegau. (JC)
Wine Club
An 88-acre estate, Château de Montfaucon sits just across the Rhône River from the esteemed vineyards of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It is owned and operated by Rodolphe de Pins, a UC Davis graduate and former member of the winemaking staff at Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe. Over the years, Château de Montfaucon has developed a HUGE following among both our staff and customers. Vigneron Rodolphe de Pins recently acquired new holdings in the Clos Bimard, an historic property on the southwest side of the appellation. These 3.5 hectares are planted to old vines of Grenache, Mourvedre and Cinsault. Under Rudi's handling, the wines are focused, balanced and immediately attractive on the palate. Another great addition to the portfolio of wines from one of our favorite producers!
Enormously deep and concentrated, but this is so subtle and defies easy description. The superfine tannins give this an incredibly fine texture, the richness building in the finish without adding anything to the impression of weight. From three old-vine grenache vineyards that have limestone, sand and galet soils. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (SP)
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96JD, 96JS, 96RP, (92-95VN)). Wine Advocate: "Beaucastel has been on a terrific qualitative roll over the last four vintages, and the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (which Francois Perrin feels is similar to the 1990, although I don’t see that as of yet) is a 15, 000-case blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance split among the other permitted varietals of the appellation. This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. (RP)" (02/2004)

Despite the high percentage of Syrah, you wouldn’t know it from tasting this beauty, and it offers a killer perfume of black currants, graphite, garrigue and camphor. One of the most youthful wines in my tastings, it has the depth and purity to offer incredible pleasure even today, yet it’s 3-4 years away from full maturity and is going to be very long lived. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Cuvee Mourre de Perdrix" (89RP). 89+? points Robert Parker: "The 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Mourre des Perdrix is a real terroir-based wine showing resiny notes of a pine forest intermixed with herbes de Provence, damp earth, and balsamic notes as well as oodles of kirsch liqueur. The wine is structured, medium-bodied, firmly tannic, and jagged in the finish. Drink it over the next decade." (02/06)

Bid on this 5-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of 2005 Domaine de Cristia "Renaissance" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (97JD, 95RP, 93WS, 92ST), 2-bottles of 2005 Domaine de Monpertuis "Tradition" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (95VN), 1-bottle of 2005 Domaine du Caillou "Les Quartz" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (95RP, 95WS, 93ST), and 1-bottle of 2005 Eddie Feraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape (93VN). Of the 2005 Domaine de Cristia "Renaissance" Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Jeb Dunnuck writes: "The 2005 Châteauneuf Du Pape Renaissance showed beautifully, with a youthful yet still mature, full-bodied style carrying loads of darker berry fruits, roasted meats, ground pepper, violets, and spice-driven aromas and flavors. Based on a blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre, it's round, expansive, and just incredibly sexy, and while it's drinking at point today, it should cruise for another decade in cold cellar." (08/2021)

Always a classy white, the 2025 Châteauneuf Du Pape Blanc is 40% Clairette, 25% Roussanne, 25% Grenache Blanc, and 10% Bourboulenc from La Crau, and it was aged on its lees in barrels, demi-muids, and 30-hectoliter foudres. It has pear, hints of orchard fruits, honeyed white flowers, spice, and crushed stone on the nose. Medium-bodied and nicely concentrated on the palate, it has integrated acidity and shows the slightly more supple style of the vintage, yet it has its classic purity, precision, and crystalline character. It will benefit from 2-3 years in the cellar, and I suspect it will see its 20th birthday in fine form.
