Fizzy, fresh and fun — what's not to like about the Crab Wine? Clocking in at only 9% alcohol, with the slightest touch of sweetness on the palate, there's a reason why we've kept this wine in stock for over a decade. Simply delicious and dangerously drinkable, this is a crisp, refreshing style of Vinho Verde bursting with zesty lemo, lime and juicy peach that is perfect for sipping by the pool in the sun.
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1997 Sandeman Late Bottled Vintage Port. Sandeman started in 1790 with George Sandeman, a Scott who set up a wine merchant business in London specializing in Port and Sherry. Today the Sandeman portfolio includes Port, Sherry, and Madeira. Robert Parker for the Wine Advocate had this to say about the historic producer: "Sandeman is one of the biggest and most conspicuous of the port houses, with extensive interests in the sherry business as well. They advertise significantly and their products are well-represented in virtually every American marketplace. The quality is quite good given the quantity of wine produced."

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1977 Fonseca Vintage Port (100JS, 100WS, 95JG). James Suckling: "I found a bottle of 1977 Fonseca in my cellar - probably my last. It was absolutely gorgeous. I gave this fortified wine a perfect score in its youth and I think it has finally evolved into its perfection as a mature vintage Port... This is in total balance now with such harmony. What amazing aromas of berry and flowers. Full and sweet, the tannins are complete dissolved. The fruit is perfect. This goes on for minutes. " (06/2016)

Bid on this bottle of Leacock ''Solera 1872'' Madeira. John Leacock sailed to Madeira from the United Kingdom (after the death of his father) in 1741 and at the age of 15, became the youngest apprentice at the firm of Madeira merchants (Catanach and Murdoch), and stayed until his contract expired on 11 March 1749. During his apprenticeship, he had been in constant contact with an old school friend, John Patient, residing at that time in Charles Town, South Carolina, who suggested that they themselves should commence trading. Leacock agreed and this marks the birth of the now world famous company.

Bid on this bottle of 1977 Warre's Vintage Port (98DC, 94JS, 93WS, 92RP). Decanter: "There is such cleanliness to the flavours and such freshness in the aromas that it’s hard to recognise this as being 50-year-old Port. The wafts of rose petals and star anise are enticing, while the integrated components are seamless and there’s significant power driving though an unusually long, unwavering palate line. With 1977 revered as one of the great Port vintages, this definitely lives up to its esteemed reputation. (DS)" (04/2024)

Mandarin peel adds brightness to a concentrated core, supported by juicy precision, remarkable depth and a refined, lingering finish. *Silver Medal - 2026 Decanter World Wine Awards*
This has aromas of sliced green apples, orchard fruit, fennel and a touch of flint. Medium- to full-bodied and fresh, with texture and pleasant phenolics. Long and persistent. Incredible value. A blend of multiple vineyards in Douro Superior. 60% rabigato, 15% gouveio, 15% codega and 10% viosinho. Made from 30- to 45-year-old vines. Aged for 12 months in used barrels. (JGA)
Smith Woodhouse’s 2015 Late Bottled Vintage Port was matured in wood for four years. Bottled in 2019, without any fining or filtering, it was then aged in bottle for a further six years in the Smith Woodhouse lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia, prior to release. This prolonged ageing, first in wood and then in bottle is key to the development of the rich and spice-forward aromas and flavors that give this Port a style and complexity akin to that of Vintage Port. Most LBV Ports produced today are matured exclusively in wood, filtered before bottling and placed on the market without any bottle-ageing. Smith Woodhouse’s traditional method of maturation, combining both wood and bottle-ageing, distinguishes it from most other LBV Ports currently available.
My favourite sub-category of tawny as this combines the freshness of youth with complexity of age: lovely reddish-tawny hue with a toffee and dried citrus character on the nose and palate, now smooth and silky with creamy texture (the concentration of age), the sweet fruit (that is the hallmark of Graham’s) offset by a streak of fresh acidity on the finish. A seamless melange of glorious flavours. (RM)
Bid on this 3-bottle tasting lot; including 1-bottle of Warre's "Otima" 10 Year Old Tawny Port (500ml) (91W&S, 91WS) and 2-bottles of 1997 Warre's Vintage Port (94WS, 90VN). Of the 1997 Warre's Vintage Port, Wine Spectator writes: "Dark in profile, with warm buckwheat, singed juniper and espresso notes leading off, backed by warm black currant and fig compote flavors. Has heft, but the brambly undertow is easily absorbed through the finish. Approachable, but there's no rush at all. (JM)" (02/2017)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Taylor "Quinta de Vargellas" Vintage Port (94VN, 92WS, 91JG). Vinous: "Saturated ruby. Brooding blueberry, cassis, licorice and mineral nose complicated by a whiff of smoked meat; easy to pick out as Taylor in a blind grouping. Very concentrated, palate-saturating black cherry and black raspberry flavor. Thick and round but vibrant and delineated. Impressive extract. Explosive finishing fruit goes on and on. A very powerful port, but much more accessible early than a classic vintage Taylor. (ST)" (03/1998)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1994 Dow's Vintage Port (99DC, 97WS, 96RP). Decanter: "This was my pick of the vintage when it was first declared in 1996, and nearly 30 years later I feel fully justified in recommending it again. Retaining its deep colour, opening up to reveal ripe, exotic aromas of gum cistus, eucalypt and mint, so very expressive of the Douro. Ripe, quite powerful and still tight-knit with lovely rich, minty fruit, broad yet firm, tannins rising to a fresh, gripping, opulent finish (especially for Dow in its customary drier style). Now glorious to drink – it should last a lifetime. (RM)" (10/2023)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 1977 Graham's Vintage Port (93RP, 91WS). Wine Advocate: "Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great port in the post- World War II era. Their tawnys are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage ports are truly sublime and sumptuous. (RP)" (12/1988)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1898 Henriques & Henriques Boal Madeira - (92CT) Medium-bodied with lively, high natural acidity balancing rich notes of caramel, dried fruits, crème brûlée, and a long, mellow finish. A lot of volatile acidity upon opening the bottle, which went away after being opened two months.

Bid on this bottle of Henriques & Henriques "Inauguration Wine" Madeira (bottled April 2008) (97RP). Wine Advocate: "There are just 168 bottles of the spellbinding non-vintage H&H Inauguration Wine that was bottled in April 2008. It is deep amber in color. The nose is potent, rocketing from the glass with dried honey, burnt treacle, cumin, cardamom and white pepper that are brilliantly defined. The palate is very powerful with a penetrating bravura of an entrance that includes shaved ginger, white pepper, orange peel and honey. There is immense weight in the mouth along with layer upon layer of viscous marmalade and lemongrass notes that dovetail into orange peel, mango, dried quince and ginger towards the finish. This is an assertive, demonstrative, compelling Madeira wine. (NM)" (08/2012)

Bid on this bottle of 1922 D'Oliveira Boal Madeira Reserva (96JG, 93WS). John Gilman: "The 1922 Boal from d’Oliveira was bottled in 1999 and is an absolutely fabulous glass of Madeira. The brilliant nose soars from the glass in a refined and powerful blend of baked peaches, fresh figs, Cuban cigars, savory elements of fresh rosemary and celery seed, a nice touch of caramelized banana, sweet nutty tones and a bit of bergamot. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bdoied, complex and absolutely bottomless at the core, with brisk acids, laser-like focus, seamless balance and simply stunning length and grip on the complex and hauntingly profound finish. A great, great wine." (01/2014)

Dense and rich with a wide spectrum of baked apricot, caramelized orange and dried date character. And behind this is a huge structure with great acidity that keeps it very straight on the expansive yet energetic palate. Stunning length and nutty complexity at super-long finish. Drink or hold. (SP)
A luscious, super-moreish tawny, with notes of sweet orange peel, mellow Madeira honey cake, almond/marzipan and salted caramel. Silky, honeyed mouthfeel, with praline to the finish. Satisfying and very complete, this 10-year-old is naughty but nice, polished and toothsome: a great execution of the house style (20cl bottle tasted). (SA)
Located in the heart of Portugal’s Vinho Verde region, Quinta da Raza is a family-owned estate with a winemaking history that stretches back to the late eighteenth century. Situated in the subregion of Basto, where granite soils and Atlantic influences create ideal growing conditions, the estate has become one of the leading producers of modern Vinho Verde. For five generations, the Teixeira Coelho family has cultivated vineyards and preserved the traditions that define this distinctive region. Quinta da Raza is particularly known for producing fresh, vibrant wines that highlight native Portuguese grape varieties such as Arinto, Azal, and Trajadura. Their wines balance lively acidity with expressive fruit, making them exceptionally versatile at the table.
Happily, the 2022 vintage of Douro Tinto from Filipe Ferreira comes in at the same octane level as his lovely 2021 version, tipping the scales at 13.5 percent. The wine is made from the same cépages as well this year: sixty percent Touriga Nacional, twenty-five percent Tinta Roriz and fifteen percent Touriga Franca. The 2022 version reveals a beautifully refined bouquet of cassis, black cherries, a touch of saddle leather, cigar smoke, black tea and a complex base of dark soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very elegant for a Douro based on Touriga Nacional, with a lovely core of fruit, fine soil undertow and grip, ripe tannins and a long, well balanced and tangy young finish. This is an excellent wine, but it will need some time in the cellar to soften up its underlying tannins.
Monção e Melgaço, set along Portugal’s northern border with Spain, is the historic heartland of Alvarinho within the Vinho Verde appellation. Nortico’s 2025 release features the Portuguese name for the same grape known across the Minho River in Galicia as Albariño.
Pre-Arrival
Lovely deep red-tinged mahogany colour. Beautifully lifted and aromatic on the nose, just a touch of singed crocante with dried fruit, roasted chestnuts and toasted almonds. Wonderfully lithe, creamy-textured fruit on the palate, with greengage freshness plus the sweetness of an Elvas plum (160g/l residual sugar). Mesmerisingly persistent sugar and spice (and all things nice) on the finish. (RM)

Shimmering with quiet energy, this is a scintillating Port with bright amber fruit flavors of apricot. Light in body and lasting in complexity, it captures the welcoming scent of a Port lodge in Gaia, an antique scent of old wine in old wood, of humidity enriching the fruit, revealing a creamy note of caramel-coated peaches in the middle, then turning drier, more austere in the end. A lovely 20-year-old, at the cusp of freshness and maturity.
Slightly richer than the Charleston Sercial, the Boston Bual boasts knockout aromas of toasted nut oil, orange peel and hints of dark honey or maple syrup. Despite the extra weight and sweetness, it's not cloying at all the finish is mouthwatering and long. *Editors' Choice* (JC)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1985 Fonseca Vintage Port (93RP, 93WS, 91DC). Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Fonseca is still youthful in appearance with hardly any ageing on the rim. The nose offers kirsch, sloes and Christmas cake. With time, there are subtle notes of dried fig and dates beginning to emerge and add to the complexity. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully balanced on the supple, rounded entry. It is not quite as complex as the aromatics, with dates and dried fig, the finish mellow and refined. It is very elegant for a Fonseca, weighty but supremely well focused. This is a fabulous Fonseca that is ready to drink now, but will age for another 30 or 40 years. (NM)" (02/2013)

Soalheiro is one of Portugal's most influential wineries and a true pioneer of the Alvarinho (a.k.a. Albariño) variety. In 1974, João António Cerdeira planted the first continuous vineyard dedicated entirely to Alvarinho in the village of Melgaço, helping redefine what was possible for white wine in the Vinho Verde region. Located in the Monção and Melgaço subregion, Portugal's northernmost wine appellation along the Spanish border, the estate benefits from a unique combination of sunny days, cool nights, and mountain ranges that shield the vineyards from the full force of the Atlantic Ocean. These conditions allow Alvarinho to achieve exceptional ripeness while retaining the vibrant acidity and mineral character that have become the winery's hallmark. Today, Soalheiro is widely regarded as one of Portugal's benchmark producers, crafting wines that balance typicity, freshness, and aging potential while showcasing why Monção and Melgaço is considered the country's premier source for Alvarinho.
Caramel bouquet embellished by a touch of wood spice. Then toffee, fudge and caramel on the palate, with ripe, red-berried fruit coming through on the finish – altogether pleasant and rich.
A bouquet of dried blueberry and cranberry with a nutty complexity. Incredible purity and depth on the palate, offering generous notes of milk chocolate, cherry liqueur and dried berries, supported by a solid grip for longevity. Richly satisfying, with a finish that lingers endlessly. (SW)

The pale, elegant and nuanced red 2021 Tinto showcases the elegant and balanced house style of sleek reds, with a creamy touch, contained ripeness and good balance. 2021 was a very good vintage, when the destemmed grapes were put in stainless steel to ferment with indigenous yeasts and the wine matured in French oak barrels for close to two years. It has notes of wild berries, herbs and flowers, a medium-bodied palate and abundant, chalky tannins. It comes in at a contained 12.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.49 and 5.85 grams of acidity. It should develop nicely in bottle and finish integrating the oak with a little more time. (LG)

This Lagar de Baixo, the entry-level wine that Niepoort makes in Bairrada, opens up with blackberries, violets, stones and a subtle earthy note. The palate is medium-bodied and really supple, with silky tannins, tender fruit and an ethereal finish. (JGL)
This smells like apricot tarte tatin with notes of toasted nuts and caramelized bananas. Very crisp and concentrated this has tremendous energy in spite of the intense maturation character, the touch of sweetness pushed way into the background. Super-long finish that’s both rich and refreshing. Drink or hold. (SP)
Winemakers Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges founded Wine & Soul in 2001 in Portugal’s Douro Valley. Their 2023 Manoella Tinto offers a connection to this historic winegrowing region, where vineyards line the steep slopes of the Douro River and its tributaries, and dry reds share a home with Port.
A blend from their younger vines (30 years old) planted in single-varietal plots, this is a beautiful, aromatic wine with roses, bright red fruits and orange peel on the nose. The palate is fresh and well-structured, medium-bodied and flavorful with mineral tannins and a long finish. (CH)
Filipa Pato is the daughter of Luís Pato, whose work helped bring international attention to Portugal’s Baga grape. Her 2025 “Post Quercus” features that variety in Bairrada, its principal stronghold—an Atlantic-influenced region in central Portugal where Baga has long been central to red-wine production.
A ripe, forward and flattering style, with boysenberry and blackberry pâte de fruit notes melding with black licorice through the succulent, open finish. (JM)
Produced from five tiny plots of 70 to 90 year old vines with 32 varieties, this wine is foottrodden in granite lagares with very gentle extraction before ageing for around 18 months in barrel. Deeply concentrated yet well contained, it combines black pepper, red pepper and spicy red fruit with soft tannins that nicely frame the wine. Elegant but with underlying power and structure, it feels tightly coiled and built to evolve slowly over time.
A blend of indigenous grapes Baga and Bical from Bairrada (hence the name 3B), this traditional-method sparkling exudes texture, elegance and salinity. Husband-and-wife team extraordinaire Filipa Pato and William Wouters deliver mineral tension and purity of fruit, seen here in the clear outline of the cranberry, pink grapefruit and pomegranate notes, topped by savoury aniseed and tarragon. (IS)
This has rich, exuberant fruit, with fresh blackberries and plenty of vibrant dark fruit, complemented by a stony, dry schist character. Full bodied, with firm, dry tannins that add definition and balance to the multidimensional fruit. This is exceptional, a joy to taste in its exuberance and racy intensity, but with the substance and structure for a long life ahead. (JGA)
Quinta do Ameal is a small producer in Vinho Verde, only 14ha, but with an outsized reputation, they are one of the region's most important producers. Their estate is in the westernmost sub-zone of Ponte de Lima. Ponte de Lima is believed to be the origin of the region's most important varietals, Loureiro. It is common to equate Quinta do Ameal and Loureiro just as you would Soalheiro and Alvarinho. They have been farming organically for almost 20 years and utilize some Biodynamic methods. The varietal is best known for its aromatics and acidity, making it one of Vinho Verde’s most important blending varietals. Here the subtle floral and herbal aromatics (Loureiro is Laurel in Portugues) lifts the ripe citrus and orchard fruits. It is medium bodied and balanced with fresh acidity and there is a faint mineral tone on the finish. The fruit, body, acidity balance makes this an ideal wine for pairing with a wide range of cuisine.
The nose is subtle and floral, with a delicate hint of peaches. The palate is vibrant and electric, showing brightness and volume, with lovely balance between zesty acidity and fine texture. A blend of alvarinho, maria gomes and arinto, with 10% aged in barrels. (JGA)
