Reviewed June 2026Produced from five tiny plots of 70 to 90 year old vines with 32 varieties, this wine is foottrodden in granite lagares with very gentle extraction before ageing for around 18 months in barrel. Deeply concentrated yet well contained, it combines black pepper, red pepper and spicy red fruit with soft tannins that nicely frame the wine. Elegant but with underlying power and structure, it feels tightly coiled and built to evolve slowly over time.

The 2023s reds are nicely crafted and show contained ripeness, good freshness and balance and integrated oak, coming through as powerful but elegant, and the 2023 Pintas Character, produced with grapes from five plots of old vines with mixed varieties, is a good example of it. It fermented in lagar and was foot trodden, then it matured in used French oak barrels for 22 months. It's medium- to full-bodied, with abundant, fine-grained tannins and with some sweet spices in the finish. (LG)
