The 2022 Barolo Bric Del Fiasc pours a vibrant ruby hue and delivers layered aromatics of redcurrants, iron earth, orange spice, incense, and mint. Medium-bodied, focused, and linear, it has remarkable energy and complexity without relying on sheer weight. The palate is mouthwatering and persistent, with dried apricot notes lingering through the finish. Roughly 10,000 bottles were produced. Drink 2027-2046. (AF)

Smooth and stunning, the captivating 2022 Barolo Bric del Fiasc shows its great class even in what was an incredibly challenging vintage, starting with its beautiful aromas of iris, perfumed berry, menthol and culinary spice. Enveloping but boasting a weightless finesse and great intensity that many of the 2022s lack, the delicious palate delivers succulent Morello cherry, raspberry compote, licorice and mint accompanied by velvety tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it lifted and balanced. (KO)

With 2.7ha, the Paolo Scavino estate owns approximately one third of this small sub-district and is an obvious reference. The site is characterised by deep aquifers of iron-rich water, helpful in curbing hydric stress. Pronounced aromas of camphor and eucalyptus make for a very balsamic expression. Sweet and dark wild berries are juxtaposed by savoury mushroom. The dense rich fruit is hemmed in by authoritative tannins; yet in the same breath – or sip- this is finessed and wondrously light on its feet. (MM)

An intense wine, meaty and floral, showing violets, roses, red currants and pomegranate with a lot of licorice root and mint. Full-bodied with a thick, almost austere palate, this has powerful, dusty tannins and crisp acidity. Cool, herbal finish. Try from 2027. (AF)

Notes

Bric dël Fiasc comes from the Fiasco vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, with southwestern exposure at 260 meters. It became Paolo Scavino’s first single-vineyard Barolo when the family bottled the site separately in 1978. For the 2022, Vinous emphasizes breadth, dark fruit, savory herbs and floral notes that emerge with air. JebDunnuck.com describes a medium-bodied wine with a lively, focused palate and a persistent finish.
