2023 Pulido-Walker "Estate" Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon 3-Pack in OWC

The 2021 Pulido-Walker Mt. Veeder Estate Cabernet Sauvignon comes from plantings established in 2015 by owners Mark Pulido and Donna Walker–also partners at Mending Wall Wines–set above the fog line on Mt Veeder, reaching elevations of up to 292 metres. The site is notably cold, and in 2023 some blocks struggled to fully reach the finish line. The upper sections of the vineyard ripen first, while the lower parcels, which trap water and colder air, required additional care and attention during the growing season. In this vintage, the wine is more delicate and juicy than one might expect from Mt Veeder, yet make no mistake – the tannins remain firm and generous, supporting a core of juicy red berry fruit. There is a clear sense of elegance here.

The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder Estate Vineyard is superb. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, new leather, incense and bittersweet chocolate open nicely with some coaxing. This powerhouse Cabernet delivers the goods. Time in the glass opens this mid-palate beautifully in this potent, explosive young wine.
