A complex wine with restrained aromas of red cherries, red currants, cherry pits, licorice, cinnamon, sweet violets and smoky wood. Very juicy, with ripe, velvety tannins that are vibrant, energetic, crisp and tight-knit. Full-bodied, this wine shows drinkability and potential for the long haul. Try from 2028. (AF)

Dark exotic spice, lavender, eucalyptus and forest berry aromas form the nose on the beautiful 2021 Brunello Rosildo. On the elegantly structured, full-bodied palate, close-grained, crushed velvet tannins accompany dried cherry, red plum, licorice and orange peel. Fresh acidity keeps it lifted and bright. This is still youthfully austere so give it time to fully unwind and develop. (KO)

Displaying a medium garnet hue, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino Rosildo is expressive as it opens, with notes of leather, dried cherries, Mediterranean herbs, sandalwood, dried flowers, and a subtle iron-earthiness. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully composed, with fine tannins, refreshing acidity, and a lightly savory richness that carries through the finish with clarity and energy. It has a polished texture and an understated elegance that should reward a bit of patience. Drink 2026-2041. (AF) 94+

The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Rosildo opens with a blend of crushed blueberries and cherries complemented by hints of split pine and rosemary. It is round and pure in feel, with crisp red berry fruits and medium weight. The finish has staining length, yet is only gently tannic, leaving a mineral resonance and a pleasantly chewy sensation. I'm hoping that further bottle age will bring more complexity, as I find more harmony in the house Brunello compared to the Selezione. (EG)

Notes

Rosildo comes from Vigna della Creta, Franco Pacenti’s selected source of Sangiovese in the Canalicchio area on Montalcino’s northeastern side. The vineyard sits at about 300 meters on soil with a strong clay component. The estate first made this bottling in 2015. For 2021, fermentation took place in stainless steel, with pumping over, délestage and prolonged skin contact. The wine then matured for 26 months in a 10-hectoliter French oak cask, followed by seven months in bottle. The estate suggests red-meat and game dishes, particularly those involving mushrooms or truffles.
