The 2021 Alteni di Brassica is a gorgeous, steely white endowed with tons of varietal character. This is the first vintage that includes fruit from the Gaja family's new vineyards in Alta Langa. Lemon peel, sage, mint, dried herbs, chamomile and a touch of tropical fruit linger on the bright, saline finish. (AG)

Produced entirely from Sauvignon Blanc, the 2021 Alteni Di Brassica was also tasted from barrel and takes on more intensity in its aromatics of guava, grapefruit, and wet stone. Medium-bodied, with some salinity, this is an accessible wine for those who would like an introduction into the white wines of the Gaja estate. It has a linear feel, with rounded fruit on the mid-palate and a fresh spine of acidity. It is due to be released in June 2023. (AF)

This is not your grassy, light Sauvignon. It is structured, dense, and floral, with a smoky minerality that speaks of the Langhe soil rather than the grape variety.

Notes

Gaja "Alteni di Brassica" Sauvignon Blanc is a sophisticated and expressive white wine from the esteemed Gaja estate in Piedmont. Crafted from 100% Sauvignon Blanc, this wine is a testament to Gaja’s ability to bring elegance and complexity to a grape not traditionally associated with the region. The name "Alteni di Brassica" refers to the ancient stone walls ("alteni") that line the vineyards, along with the yellow flowers ("brassica") that grow in the area, symbolizing the connection between the vineyard and its natural surroundings. On the nose, "Alteni di Brassica" offers a complex bouquet of tropical fruits, such as passionfruit and guava, along with aromas of green apple, citrus zest, and subtle floral notes. There are also hints of herbs, crushed stones, and a touch of minerality. The palate is vibrant and richly textured, with bright acidity that balances flavors of grapefruit, peach, and a hint of elderflower. Gentle oak aging adds a layer of depth and creaminess without overpowering the freshness of the fruit. The finish is long, crisp, and refined, with a refreshing, mineral-driven quality.
