Reviewed January 2025Morgeot is so vast and made by so many producers that it can be hard to get a handle on the style…except here. This is always a pretty, showy Morgeot. Sleek acidity gives the mid-weight palate good balance. Ripe citrus and yellow apple peels contrast with oyster shell salinity. This is a bit more prim and proper than most wines from the vicinity.

Take it home. Or give it a cellar.

Burghound
(from La Grande Borne). A notably more floral-suffused nose speaks mostly of citrus confit, white orchard fruit and a whiff of petrol character. The rich and solidly concentrated medium weight flavors are at once succulent yet powerful with excellent persistence on the balanced finale. To be sure there is a touch of rusticity but overall, this is very good. Besides, with only a few notable exceptions, no one buys Morgeot blanc for its finesse.

The 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeots 1er Cru has a little more mineralité on the nose than the Vergers. Its bouquet contains light hints of clementine and beeswax aromas. The palate is well balanced, fresh and concentrated with a slightly viscous opening. It just needs a little more terroir to shape the finish.(NM)
