Reviewed January 2024The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Cuvée Jules 1er Cru, a blend of lieux-dits Sentiers, Chatelot, and Chabiots, offers one of the finest aromatics from the Domaine this year: beautifully defined red berry fruit laced with minerals, subtle floral notes in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, elegant in style. Judiciously and prudently applied new oak allows the terroirs to define the poised, prolonged finish. A leap up from the 2021 last year, this comes recommended.(NM)

Note: from purchased fruit in Sentiers, Chabiots and Chatelots; released under the Maison Virgile Lignier label; 100% whole clusters. A notably fresher nose is comprised by notes of both red and dark currant along with ample amounts of both spice and floral elements. There is better vibrancy if not quite the same richness to the detailed and punchy middleweight flavors that conclude in a dusty, focused and sneaky long finish. This isn't exactly a Chambolle of lace and grace but it is one of most refined wines in the range in 2022.
