Reviewed January 2025As readers know, I have a soft spot in my heart for Domaine Dujac’s les Gruenchers, as it consistently hits a lot of the sweet spots on my palate. The 2023 version is going to be a beautiful wine, as it delivers a refined aromatic constellation of red plums, cherries, gamebird, chalky soil tones, raw cocoa, vanillin oak and a lovely floral topnote redolent of roses. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and sappy, with great soil signature and grip, fine-grained, buried tannins, and lovely bounce on the long, seamlessly balanced and complex finish. Great juice. (Drink between 2037-2085)

The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers is showing especially well, bursting with aromas of cherries, raspberries, orange zest and cinnamon. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and pure, it's sensual and fragrant, with a vibrant core of fruit and a saline finish.
Domaine Dujac's 2023 harvest began with Les Folatières on September 1, followed by a five-day pause before resuming on September 6. As elsewhere, yields were generous, and alcohol levels range between 13.3% and 14%. The domaine's more spacious and better temperature-controlled new winery was surely an asset, and the 2023s are shaping up nicely, offering up expressive fruit as well as plenty of underlying structure. Readers, of course, will be familiar with the outlines of the Dujac approach to producing red Burgundy: organic farming, fermentation with a predominance of whole clusters (with some 20% to 30% destemmed this year) and élevage in barrels largely sourced from Tonnellerie Rémond.(WK)

Note: from a .33 ha parcel of 50+ year old vines. A more subtle application of wood easily allows the ripe and ultra-floral-suffused aromas of dark raspberry and spice to be appreciated. The delicious if barely medium weight flavors possess a sophisticated mouthfeel while displaying a subtle minerality on the balanced, complex and sneaky long finale. This is firm yet elegant and a wine that should age on its impeccable balance.*Burghound sweet Spot Outstanding!*

A small plot with great pinot quality from 1930s, where they take their cuttings for massal selection. 100% whole bunch vinification. Glowing purple with an exquisite bouquet. The ripeness was very well judged here. A fine depth of deep red fruit, slightly lactic from the oak at the back, the stems very prominent so for the time being a dry patch which will be swallowed by the fruit. The old vines ripened later in 2023, which was helpful. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.
Notes
Bill Nanson Burgundy Report: "Higher tones, stony with a little graphite wedded to the florals. In the flavours also a little graphite extra, really impressing with its width and persistence in the finish. Though perhaps still behind the previous two as it fades…"(09/2024)
