The 2013 Valtellina Superiore Grumello Riserva Sant'Antonio is a bold, pungent wine. Dark red and purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice race across the palate. A deep, vertical Riserva, the 2013 is very young today, but it is so impressive. Time in the glass brings out the wine's striking inner perfume, sweetness and sheer pedigree. (AG)

All about finesse and depth, this opens with enticing scents recalling underbrush, dried rose petal, camphor and perfumed berry. Structured and linear, the elegant palate features dried cherry, spiced cranberry and star anise set against a saline mineral note. Taut, refined tannins and bright acidity keep it vibrant. Already enjoyable, it also offers very good aging potential. Drink through 2033. (KO)

A sacred vineyard produces this rare wine. The wine presents floral scents alongside ethereal qualities and it develops a long-lasting mineral note which extends throughout several minutes.

Notes

ArPePe’s 2013 “Sant’Antonio” Grumello Valtellina Superiore Riserva is a hauntingly elegant and deeply expressive Nebbiolo from one of Valtellina’s most revered crus. The nose is refined and complex, with aromas of dried cherry, rose petal, and orange zest, layered with notes of tobacco, alpine herbs, and crushed stone. On the palate, it’s finely structured yet ethereal, with silky tannins and vibrant acidity framing delicate red fruit, earthy spice, and mineral tension. The finish is long, graceful, and resonant, with lingering notes of dried flowers, citrus peel, and savory nuance. A transcendent, age-worthy mountain Nebbiolo of remarkable purity and poise.
