2007 Le Piane Boca (3L)

The 2007 Boca gives us a clear idea of how this wine expresses itself ten years following the harvest. This was a balanced and beautiful vintage with a long growing season that is very beneficial to the Nebbiolo grape in particular. This wine shows higher levels of richness and extract, but you also feel that bright intensity of the acidity. This wine is drinking beautifully at the moment with dark fruit and slightly wild or untamed flavors of smoked meat and spice. Christoph Künzli is a man of infectious charisma and joyful optimism. I highly recommend a visit to his little tasting room on the main square in the town of Boca. He also produces some of the finest wines you will find in Alto Piemonte. This high-performing winery is a true treasure not only for Piedmont but for Italian wine in general. (ML)
