The 2020 Barbaresco Riserva Poracome from a cru that lies closer to the Tanaro River, with more fertile soils, which lends it the slightly more open and easygoing feel that’s typical of this site. It sports a youthful red color in the glass and opens to notes of preserved cranberry, mossy forest floor, dried spice, and pressed flowers. Medium-bodied, it floats on the palate with a medium frame, fine tannins, and a weightless feel. It’s more open and approachable at this stage but will drink well over the coming 12-15 years. (AF)

Always the most open and less tannic of the single-vineyard Riservas, the lovely 2020 Pora from Produttori is a generous wine, delivering aromas and flavors of crushed cranberry, succulent cherry, star anise, wild herb and hazelnut. Polished tannins offer smooth support.

Balsamic flavors of eucalyptus and menthol introduce this fluid, cherry- and blackberry-flavored red. Turns more fruity with air, offering a fleshy texture and accents of earth, tar and licorice on the lingering finish. Shows fine balance, with adequate tannins to develop over the short to medium term. Best from 2026 through 2040. (BS)

Opens with bold spicy notes of cardamom before a potpourri of meadow flowers and sandalwood join in. Summer berries flood the palate, popping with juicy freshness. Some grainy tannins tug around the edges, but this is quite suave overall. All nine of the Produttori’s cru Riservas were bottled last June and released in early March this year. Sitting next to Asili, Pora approaches the Tanaro River, making for a richer, more fertile soil. (MM)

The Pora vineyard produces its wines with the most open character because it grows its vines in sand-based soils along the Tanaro River. The wine presents soft floral notes while offering charm and it becomes drinkable first but improves with time.

Notes

Produttori del Barbaresco’s Pora Barbaresco Riserva 2020 is a refined and approachable expression of Nebbiolo, showcasing balance, depth, and early drinkability. The nose is inviting and layered, revealing aromas of ripe red cherry, wild berries, and dried rose, intertwined with notes of sweet spice, tobacco, and crushed herbs. The palate is supple yet structured, offering juicy red fruit, velvety tannins, and a distinct mineral core, all balanced by fresh acidity. A long, polished finish lingers with nuances of balsamic, cedar, and earthy spice.
