This has a head-turning aroma with freshly-turned earth, ripe black fruits and spiced chocolate. The tannins are chewy and firm, doing more of the structuring than the notably fresh acidity. Like the other Premier Crus, this has about 25-30% new oak, but the oak feels a bit more prominent here. There is plenty of stuffing, including a hint of viscosity, to allow the structure to seep into the fruit in time.

A glowing crimson colour. There is an impressive volume of fruit on the nose. Medium weight, lively raspberry and strawberry with a certain sweetness of fruit indicating a decent ripeness level. This does fill the mouth very juicily, the vintage enlivening the finish. Drink from 2027-2035."

Although initially restrained on the nose, this opens nicely with time. It shows a medium-deep colour and ripe, lush cherry fruit with a floral edge on the palate. The tannins are firm but not overly so. As it is nearly every year, this is a reliable, rewarding example of this premier cru. It comes from the one hectare the domaine owns in the centre of the Clos. The grapes are destemmed and carefully fermented to achieve this subtle elegance. (CC)

Offers ripe cherry, blueberry and spice flavors, with an underlying mineral vein, plus toasty oak for support. Though submerged for the time being, the fruit lingers on the long aftertaste. This just needs time to reconcile with the oak. Best from 2027 through 2047. —B.S.
