Pale to medium lemon-yellow colored, the 2021 de Rayne Vigneau soars from the glass with notes of lemon tart, fresh grapefruit, and lime cordial, plus suggestions of candied ginger, orange blossoms, and marzipan with a touch of chamomile tea. The palate shimmers with expressive citrus and mineral layers, framed by fantastic tension and a satiny texture, finishing very long. Residual sugar around 130 g/l. (LPB)

The 2021 Rayne-Vigneau is quite powerful and resonant in this vintage. There's a feeling of phenolic intensity that is almost reminiscent of a red wine, likely a result of very low yields in the field. Pineapple, dried flowers, coconut and tangerine peel are some of the many notes that grace the 2021, a compelling Rayne-Vigneau. (AG)

Honeyed caramel, hazelnuts, oranges and lemon and lime zest on the nose. Sweet but so satisfying too on the palate, this is quite opulent but with a fresh apple, peach and apricot centre that is lifted and quite gentle really. It's definitely on the more fresh, lifted, lively side than overtly unctuous but still has the structured and spiced edge to age. Well made with sparkle! This is characterful and playful - giving you sweetness for sure but with mouthwatering energy and verve. A lovely wine this vintage, such a joy to drink. One you want a glass of, and then another! Oenoconseil consultants. Tasted twice. (GH)

Aromas of spices, ripe orchard fruits, exotic fruit and passion fruit prefaces the 2021 Rayne-Vigneau, a round, supple and medium-bodied wine with a fleshy core of fruit and a lively mid-palate. Despite a touch of volatile acidity, it’s perfectly balanced with superb notes of pineapple in the finish. This is a blend of 71% Sémillon, 28% Sauvignon Blanc and 1% Muscadelle. (YC)

Notes

Wow! We just served this lovely wine at our UGC event at the end of January (400 people tasting 88 wines). In fact, it was the only 2021 Sauternes we tasted at the event! Why, you say? 2021 was a superb vintage for Sauternes, but the problem was almost no production because of weather problems. Very little production from most properties and none from some. This Rayne only had about 20,000 bottles (normal is almost 100,000 bottles). I was blown away by the precision and balance of this beauty. Quite lush, but with tremendous acidity and botrytis! Long and lingering on the palate too. Talking to the director of the property, Vincent Labergère thinks his 2021 is better than his 2001!!! Tasting it, I agree.
