An exposed site that sits on a vein of limestone with very little topsoil. The density here is staggering. Very intense and long with super minerals and intense tautness through the palate. This will age well. Try from 2022.

The 2018 Chablis Les Sechets 1er Cru is a stand out in this flight of 1er Crus from Patrick Piuze. Beautifully layered and expansive, with striking depth, the 2018 has so much to recommend it. Readers can expect a Chablis built on resonant and textural richness more than anything else. In a word: terrific. (AG)

A new cuvée, from 56-year-old vines whose grapes Piuze has long coveted, the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Séchet offers up lovely aromas of lemon oil, blanched almonds, dried white flowers and oystershell. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, saltine and tangy, with bright acids, excellent concentration and a striking sense of completeness. With its inaugural vintage, the Séchet is already making a strong claim to rank among Piuze's best cuvées. (WK)

This is the new premier cru in the domaine’s lineup in 2017 and the wine is lovely. It is made from vines planted in the late 1950s or very early 1960s. The wine is excellent in its debut vintage, offering up a complex bouquet of pear, sweet grapefruit, a touch of tangerine, chalky minerality, beeswax and a topnote of orange zest. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, long and racy, with a complex core of fruit, excellent mineral drive and impressive cut and grip on the vibrant finish. A superb new addition and an absolutely classic example of Séchets.

Notes

91-93 points Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy: "This is very lean, exceptionally dry nose, very tight but what a magnificent example of extreme chablis on the palate. To fill out the mouth so much while remaining intensely dry is impressive." (01/2019)
