If you have a bottle of the 2006 Boca by Le Piane you are in for a special treat. You should drink it now because it is showing very nicely. The wine has the most fantastic bouquet with sanguine-like notes of rust, iron and blood orange. There is a salty element as well with brimstone and crushed oyster shell. Christoph Künzli is a man of infectious charisma and joyful optimism. I highly recommend a visit to his little tasting room on the main square in the town of Boca. He also produces some of the finest wines you will find in Alto Piemonte. This high-performing winery is a true treasure not only for Piedmont but for Italian wine in general. (ML)

The 2006 Boca from Le Piane is a fabulous wine from one of the smallest appellations in Northern Piedmont. Crushed flowers, mountain herbs and red fruit come together on an exceptionally elegant frame. In 2006, Boca has a little more richness than is often the case, while still retaining its typical firm style. This is a fascinating, contemplative wine that needs to be followed over several hours (or days!) in the glass. It is truly magnificent; in fact I think the 2006 is the best Boca I have ever tasted. Notes

Le Piane Boca is a distinctive red wine from the Boca DOC in the northern Piedmont region, made primarily from Nebbiolo and Vespolina grapes. Known for its structure, complexity, and aging potential, this wine offers aromas of red berries, spice, and earthy mineral notes. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with firm tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, balanced finish. The volcanic soils and high-altitude vineyards lend a unique minerality, making this an ideal pairing with roasts, game, or aged cheeses.
