Krug Brut Rosé Champagne

SKU #993293 97 points Wine Spectator

Outer quote mark A vibrant, enticing rosé, with rich aromas and flavors of poached apricot, grilled nut, white cherry, saffron and anise, all set in a seamless frame. This is racy and intense, yet rides the palate, showing a plush and creamy elegance. Hints of coffee liqueur, candied orange and clover honey accent the lingering finish. *Highly Recommended* (AN) Inner quote mark (11/2019)

Outer quote mark An impressively fresh wine, this is the 22nd rosé blending from this producer. It has acidity, crispness and bright red-currant fruits. Maturity is only just beginning, hinting at nuts and toastiness. All this suggests that the bottling could age... (RV) Inner quote mark (3/2020)

Outer quote mark I had not tasted a bottle of the Krug Rosé '22ème Édition' is a year or so and was really happy to cross paths with one shortly after tasting the newest release, number 23, as it gave the possibility of putting the new release in its historical context. The 22ème Édition is a very classical and refined example of this lovely cuvée, offering a deep and complex bouquet of tangerine, white cherry, gentle spice tones, orange peel, a gorgeous base of soil tones, dried rose petals and a discreetly smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and shows off excellent mid-palate depth, with very refined mousse, excellent bounce and grip and a very long, complex and seamlessly balanced, vibrant finish. This is great wine, and though there is not much difference qualitatively between the two most recent editions of Krug Rosé, stylistically, I have a slight preference for the 22ème Édition. K&L Notes

This blend of vintages is perhaps the most consistently great pink wine in the world. Effortless, subtle, and elegant, this is not a bottle of wine that is ever flashy or showy. Every time I have had it seems to just vanish without refilling the flutes. The refined strawberry notes and haunting Pinot Noir fruit always seem to take a back seat to the company and the conversation when I have drunk it, but the memory of each experience is as vivid as yesterday. Every lover of the good things in life should try this masterpiece at least once. It is the ultimate rosé! (Gary Westby, K&L Champagne Buyer)

Even though I am a bit of a Krug fiend, actually I'm very much a Krug fiend, I just love this Brut Rose! It has an elegant nose of rose petals, tart strawberries and white pepper. A bright forefront with raspberry fruit merges into a tart strawberry and spicebox flavors at the back of the palate. Absolutely lovely! Will make a great cellar addition for the next 4-5 years. Update: 15 August, 2019: My gosh! Almost exactly 6 years since I've tasted this?! Yikes! As per my previous review, the Rose petals and pepper are still there. Now, there was also a scent of dark, black, cherries. This edition is vinous and complex and deep, deep, deep. Cherry fruit dominates with that Krug nuttiness and toastiness. As with everything Krug, the finish is fine, dry, and mineral driven. This is one of those rare champagnes that can hold up to a steak dinner. The only question is why has Gary let me languish so long without trying this beauty again? Poor me! Waaaaah! (P.S. Please don't weep for me too much, Krug was the first thing I had this morning .)

The nose opens with Meyer lemon and pear before moving to scents of soft berries, strawberries & cream, and fresh peaches. The palate has great acid, but the fresh fruit notes from the nose are replaced here by richer and more savory flavors of stewed orchard fruits, baking spices, and gentle florality.

Krug really doesn't need any extra validation from lil' ol me but I'm going to give it because they're just that great! This Krug rose is truly transcendent. Both sweet and savory at the same time, the Krug rose delivers with beautiful rose petals, sweet orange citrus, toasty lees and intense red fruit.

Back at home after a particularly rough day my husband went on his nightly expedition to the wine cellar in our garage. When he returned with this wine - my jaw dropped. "Sometimes you've got to live a little", he said. Live a little indeed! A spectacular champagne with lots of everything, but not too much of anything. Black and red fruited nose, candied blood orange, toasted nuts, rose petals on the palate - velvety but vivacious. Balanced and luxurious, this was a special treat I will not soon forget.
