We have a large staff of friendly and knowledgeable wine professionals that taste hundreds of wines each week. That concept works extremely well in our retail stores, and this section is our effort to bring you the same online. Don’t get us wrong, we love the highly rated wines from the press and will continue to offer them, but we think you’re missing out if you’re not augmenting those selections with picks from our excellent staff. 2016 Laphroaig 9 Year Old "Redacted Bros" Single Refill Ex-Bourbon Barrel Cask Strength Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: David Othenin-Girard | Review Date: 4/8/2026 | Send Email
The two barrels of Laphroaig represent an absolute sea change in the whisky market today. While several suppliers continue to ask exorbitant prices for this incredible, unique Islay malt on the southern shores, the Thompson Bros have quietly begun offering an exceptional array of gorgeous, extremely affordable, and delicious cask strength Laphroaigs. We all are the lucky beneficiaries of their excellent relationships with the Scottish distillers, and this beautiful young Laphroaig stands up against any of the modern Laphroaig bottlings with gusto. Let's give it a little taste. The color is typical pale gold (0.3). The nose is classical Laphroaig, offering huge saline and iodine notes, wafting and crystalline. It's not as "modern" as some of the cask strength OB bottlings, but still has some of the softer edges of fruit and vanilla poking through. With air, we get crunchy citrus and dark smoke character. It's both shocking that this beautiful bottle exists and that it hasn't sold out yet. $60 for an incredible cask strength Laphroaig at nearly 10 years old of this quality is simply silly. Just a few years ago, a 10-year commanded $90 plus from a good direct import, and an equally aged 9-year marked as Williamson sold on our site for $160. A new golden age of Islay is upon us.

2016 Giulia Negri "La Tartufaia" Barolo
Reviwer Picture By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 4/8/2026 | Send Email
Named after the truffle woods that border the vineyard, this is La Morra at its most linear and refined. The 2016 is stunning—heady aromas of underbrush, eucalyptus, and mint. It’s more athletic than the Scavino, with spiced cranberry and red cherry fruit backed by firm, silky tannins. It’s an elegant, high-altitude expression that feels "cool" and vibrant.

2013 Ettore Germano "Prapò" Barolo
Reviwer Picture By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 4/8/2026 | Send Email
This is for the serious cellar. 2013 was a classic, long-season vintage, and Prapò is Sergio’s "Grand Cru" site. This wine is chiseled and savory, offering a complex mix of crushed cranberry, balsamic, and ground clove. It is vibrant, nervous, and built for the long haul. If you want to know what "savory" Barolo is all about, this is your bottle.

2015 Ettore Germano "Cerretta" Barolo
Reviwer Picture By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 4/8/2026 | Send Email
The Cerretta vineyard produces wines with a distinct "dark" personality. In the warmer 2015 vintage, this is a total knockout. It is smooth and succulent, bursting with raspberry compote, licorice, and wild herbs. It has that signature Serralunga "iron" and smoke on the finish, but the tannins are incredibly polished. It’s a powerhouse that’s already starting to open up.

2016 Paolo Scavino Barolo
Reviwer Picture By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 4/8/2026 | Send Email
The 2016 "Classico" is anything but basic. Sourced from seven different crus across the appellation, this is a masterclass in blending. It captures the sheer energy of the 2016 vintage—rose petals, cedar, and sandalwood on the nose, with a palate of bright strawberry and cherry. It’s floral, precise, and surprisingly approachable for a wine with this much structure. A "panoramic" view of the vintage.

2023 Zind-Humbrecht Turckheim Gewürztraminer Alsace
Reviwer Picture By: Elizabeth McManus | Review Date: 4/8/2026 | Send Email
This Gewurztraminer, meaning "perfumed Traminer" or "spiced Traminer," lives up to its name. A powerful nose of jasmine, violet, and lychee gives way to a medium-bodied, dry and aromatic wine. If floral wines are not your bag, I'd swiftly steer you in a different direction. The finish is long and soft, and while the floral nature of the bottle is what some might call heavy-handed, it is otherwise dry and delicate. I found myself craving something warm and rich to go with this. Perhaps a Thai curry? If this wine was a film, it would be Franco Zeffirelli's 'Romeo and Juliet' [1968]--nostalgic, romantic, and full of flowers.

2018 Hewitt "Estate" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Reviwer Picture By: Kerry Kennell | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
The 2018 Hewitt “Estate” Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a vineyard on the Western Rutherford Bench, with vines planted in alluvial soils between 1996 and 2002. Clones 4, 7, and 8 of Cabernet Sauvignon deliver classic Mayacamas fruit, with blackberries, vanilla, summer bramble, and a whisper of violets unfolding across the palate. Plush and luxuriant in texture, the wine gains extra richness from bâtonnage (lees stirring) during malolactic fermentation. At $50 off, it’s a terrific value.

Scarlet "Fernet" Amaro (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Aaron Hughes | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
A lot of the time when I have Fernet, I feel like it really hates me and hates that I'm drinking it. Humans are far too quick to identify with things, and that's a great example. This is an almost gentle Fernet, it lovingly strokes my cheek before giving me a little playful slap, and I'll be honest, in this single instance I don't mind and of course gave consent. This is a dense and chewy one that has this kind of tootsie roll vibe in the very background, root beer, cola, sassafras, there's notes of all of these and a lingering but complexly bitter finish, it's not just bitter, there's edges and corners to explore with each sip. This is super fun and one of my favorite things from today's tasting.

Scarlet "Menta" Amaro (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Aaron Hughes | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
This reminds me a lot of a tea I used to have growing up whenever I was sick, it was herbal, minty, and always made me feel better. This is a melody of many mints with what smells kind of like chamomile in the back, it's coming from so many minty directions it's a little confusing on the palate at first until it starts to unravel and then you get these minty flashes of each one as it goes by, this cacophony of minty flavors overwhelming the palate at each sip. It's just really fun and it livens up the palate incredibly well, I feel like this would be a really fantastic after dinner sipper, something kind of fun and just a little bitter to stare out into the inky blackness of night and contemplate the enormity of everything. You know, some light thinkin' and drinkin'.

Scarlet "Aperitivo" Bitter Liqueur (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Aaron Hughes | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
Everything this place makes is fantastic. It's just super amazing really high end versions of your favorite amari. This is the Campari analogue, inspired by vintage Campari, and it's just pretty perfect. It has this depth and roundness that's just whacky in how finely tuned it is. There's cola, grapefruit zest, citron, Satsuma, and maybe Gentian all on the nose, it's so vivid and complex and just downright interesting. Fantastic mouthfeel and texture on the palate, really great depth with a lot of the same notes showing, there's more kind of a spiciness on the palate with clove, cinnamon, lots of citrus, vanilla, and then then a lingering finish with bitterness vying with sweetness and acidity and finding nothing but balance in the end. This makes me happy on a profound and deep level.

Scarlet "Verde" Amaro (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Aaron Hughes | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
Dense and round on the nose with just tons of umami popping out of the glass. Beneath the umami there's lots of wild herbaceous flavors, very herbal, complex and really interesting. This is not a replacement for Chartreuse by any means, but it is an interesting analogue nonetheless. there's a similar sort of intensity, but it veers off in other directions and leads down a whole different path. This is really interesting and really good, all of these Scarlet amari are special and unique yet somehow very familiar.

Scarlet "Radice" Amaro (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Aaron Hughes | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
Really pretty nose, with this bright lemon verbena note that fades into something a little more earthy that I want to call "clay you actually would drink" because no notes discourage me from taking a sip. Underneath that there's more herbal notes, a little bit of maybe eucalyptus and then kind of sassafrassy on the towards the end. The palate has a lot of the same notes, along with a really bright kind of medicinal orange note. The more that it sits, the nose gets a little bit more complex and interesting as various scents tune in and out for you. This is very much in the spirit of the Aperitivo but with everything tuned down just a bit and allowed to have a little more breadth. It's just fantastic.

2013 Caol Ila 12 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Hogsheads Cask Strength Single Refill Hogshead Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Aaron Hughes | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
The way that refill hogshead bourbon barrels really let the malt shine while giving it a little bit of a custard backbone is highly underrated. A lot of people seem to want a little more finish forward Scotch, but for those that know letting the grain showcase itself is really beautiful. Definitely peaty nose, medicinal forward with a little bit of candied citrus and a touch of toastier peat. The palate is rich and a little unctuous uncut, there's an indulgent kind of fattiness around the edges that just ends up coating everything, this kind of I can only describe it as happily burnt flavor. The finish is lingering with more char, lots of saline and a little bit of custard at the very end. Bottles like this really highlight the differences between the distillery releases and these limited special independent bottlings. Really a step up, in my opinion.

2014 Glen Garioch 11 Year Old "Old Particular" K&L Exclusive Single Refill Bourbon Barrel Cask Strength Highland Single Malt Whisky (750ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Aaron Hughes | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
This might have been the most unexpected thing at the tasting this morning. I know I like Scotch, that wasn't a surprise, but this was just a particularly nice barrel and I feel bad for missing it when it first came in. Even though this is higher proof, it carries the proof really well and there's just this absolute burst of pecan pie and maple candy twining with some dried apricots that just really makes this so fantastic, the finish is just delicious for miles and it lasts just as long. The nose is nice and pretty, orchard fruit and honey with the grain behind it, and then the palate is oily and spicy, very malt forward and then when the finish kicks in oh gosh, that's the stuff right there. It's just phenomenal and at a super reasonable price. Definitely top tier.

K&L's "Faultline" 100 Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Aaron Hughes | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
I really love these more budget friendly bourbons that we bring in, whether it's this Faultline series, or the K&L Liquors series, they just always fill this perfect niche of a more unique spirit that doesn't break the bank. This current 2026 release has this beautifully spicy nose, barrel spices on the nose, there's some burnt orange peel, cacao nibs, then little touches of vanilla and custard with a little peanut shell. The palate is fantastic, just a little touch of heat but the proof holds true and at the second sip it's just a smooth one. There's like a cedary sandalwood on the forefront, with coffee and dark chocolate that follows, and then a little bit of citrus oil comes in, pushing right into a to toasty and lingering spicy finish. This is really delicious, a little bit more savory than some but there's no missed notes in the song it's singing. Really feels like it's going to make a great Old Fashioned as well. For the price, it's everything I wanted it to be and just a little more. I like that little more.

2025 Heaven Hill "Grain To Glass - Beck's 6225" Limited Edition Specialty Barrel Series Chinquapin Oak Aged Chinquapin Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Jonathan Goldstein | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
This limited-edition release from Heaven Hill Distillery continues the brand’s Grain to Glass philosophy, showcasing Beck’s 6225 corn and an uncommon finishing approach with Chinquapin oak. The result is a bourbon that feels both traditional and experimental. On the nose, it is caramel, baked pear, and vanilla. The Chinquapin oak influence becomes apparent quickly, adding coconut, cedar, and a slightly herbal spice that emphasizes the aroma beyond standard wheated profiles. The palate delivers a rich, viscous texture. Sweet notes of butterscotch, honey, and soft wheat bread form the base, while darker notes of cocoa, roasted pecans, and oak emerge mid-palate. The Chinquapin barrels contribute a unique combination of sweetness and dryness—there’s an almost tea-like spice that keeps the whiskey from becoming too lush. The finish is long and well-structured. Initial waves of caramel and vanilla gradually give way to drying oak, clove, and a faint smoky edge, leaving behind a balanced, slightly earthy aftertaste that invites another sip. Overall, this is a well-constructed bourbon that highlights the impact of both grain selection and barrel innovation.

2025 Heaven Hill 7 Year Old "Grain To Glass - Beck's 6225" Limited Edition Specialty Barrel Series Chinquapin Oak Aged Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon Whiskey (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Jonathan Goldstein | Review Date: 4/7/2026 | Send Email
Heaven Hill’s 2025 Grain to Glass release featuring Beck’s 6225 corn and Chinquapin oak aging is a standout example of how wood innovation can elevate a wheated bourbon. On the nose, a rich wave of caramelized sugar, baked apple, and cornbread is followed by a fine layer of toasted coconut and sweet oak spice most likely from the Chinquapin barrels. There’s a subtle herbal almost minty—that adds complexity without becoming overpowering. The palate is where this whiskey really shines. At 52.5% ABV, it delivers a full, creamy mouthfeel with flavors of butterscotch, vanilla custard, and warm cinnamon rolls. The wheated mash bill keeps things soft, while the Chinquapin oak introduces deeper notes of dark chocolate, roasted nuts, and an earthy spice that builds with each sip. The finish is long and evolving, starting sweet with lingering caramel and maple, then drying gently into oak tannins, baking spice, and a faint smoky char. It strikes a satisfying balance between sweetness and structure. In short, this is a well-constructed bourbon that highlights both grain provenance and barrel experimentation. It’s equally appealing to seasoned bourbon drinkers and collectors seeking something distinctive. A memorable release that rewards slow sipping.

2024 Le Fraghe Corvina-Rondinella Bardolino
Reviwer Picture By: John Archuleta | Review Date: 4/4/2026 | Send Email
You ever feel like having a Pinot Noir, but not necessarily a Pinot Noir? Those that get it will get it - sometimes you want a red that is lively, light on its feet, and just an overall easy drinking experience without necessarily resulting in a cherry-bomb. This wine is the answer. Hailing from the Bardolino region in the Veneto, this wine is made up of both Corvina and Rondinella, the two common varietals that make the huge and powerful wines that make Amarone. This wine, however, is the exact opposite of that style - light, fresh, with notes of fresh cranberry, cherries, with notes of white tea and apple skins. I love having this wine almost like a Rose, chilling it before serving. The wines from Le Fraghe always bring me back to my short time hopping around Lake Garda, and if you have never had wine from the region, this is a great place to start.

2024 Medici Ermete Concerto Reggiano Lambrusco
Reviwer Picture By: John Archuleta | Review Date: 4/4/2026 | Send Email
If you have never had the pleasure of trying the real deal Lambrusco, this is a MUST try. Lambrusco gets a bad wrap - it was often common for US importers to only source lower quality wines that were fraught with over-sweetness - probably to cover up the wine faults. But you will find none of this here - coming from Emiglia-Romagna, this is about as close as you can get without taking a flight to Italy. Super dry, almost austere, this sparkling red wine is an absolute gem from the region. You will get notes of rich purple and red fruits - jammy plum, stewed cranberry, and notes of red flower petals. The acidity is nice and balanced, and has a delightful fizz that goes great with both hard and soft chesses - the richer and nuttier the better. Do yourself a favor and give this wine a try for your next aperitivo!

2024 Inama "Vin Soave" Soave
Reviwer Picture By: John Archuleta | Review Date: 4/4/2026 | Send Email
Ah, Garganega, such a gem of a varietal - if you are looking to dip your toes in the world of Italian white wines, this is one of the best places to start. The Soave is such an underappreciated region in my mind - producing some of my favorite white wines, they can range from really racey with high acid and austere minerality to medium or even full bodied with a bit more richness and roundness depending on the house style of the winemaker - but the throughline of the region truly lies in the terroir here. Nestled in northeastern Italy here, Soave has access to both valley level and high elevation vineyard sites that produce wonderful fruit with deep character, and even with this entry level you get such a great sense of place when opening a bottle from Inama. 100% stainless steel, no malo/oak influence, pure aromatics and minerality. On the nose I often get notes of white flowers, chamomile tea, and citrus peels - on the palate, you have notes of chalk and riverstone, with a mid-palate of fresh green apple and green pear. The acidity is still present, but definitely a bit more round, lending this wine to be super food friendly - I highly recommend this with some white fish in a lemon sauce, or you can go super classic with blanched peas or a green bean salad. For the price, you can't go wrong here!

Heaven Hill 7 Year Old Bottled In Bond Straight Kentucky Bourbon (750ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Jonathan Goldstein | Review Date: 4/3/2026 | Send Email
This retro-style bourbon (meaning a straightforward approach) carries a very nice age-statement along with enough power to a sipper or a mixer. – In a nutshell, it’s super versatile. On the nose it’s “classic bourbon.” Rich vanilla, caramel, and honey supported by toasted oak and a faint nuttiness. There’s spice—clove and white pepper in the background, but overall, it leans sweet and approachable. It’s inviting, if not particularly adventurous – this is a plus in my book. On the palate, this bourbon settles into a familiar groove. Caramel corn, toffee, and brown sugar are in good supply, followed by a wave of oak and a bit of rye spice. At 100 proof it carries enough weight to feel substantial without being aggressive (again versatile and crowd-pleasing). The finish is medium-length and warming. Oak, baking spice, and a lingering caramel sweetness permeate. This is a bourbon that hits all the right notes—sweetness, spice, oak—without pushing boundaries. This is a solid bourbon well worth the price that punches through a crowd of flavor-of-the-moment type bottles. Makes a great cocktail – think Mint Juleps – hint hint.

2025 Heaven Hill "Grain To Glass - Beck's 6225" Limited Edition Specialty Barrel Series Chinquapin Oak Aged Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey (700ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Jonathan Goldstein | Review Date: 4/3/2026 | Send Email
The 2025 “Grain to Glass” Rye from Heaven Hill features a Chinquapin oak finish that adds a wonderful layer of complexity - emphasizing the vanilla. Built on a mashbill of 63% rye, 24% corn, and 13% malt, and featuring the Beck’s 6225 corn varietal, this adds transparency to both agricultural specificity and barrel experimentation. The nose opens with a burst of classic rye spice—cracked pepper, clove, and fresh herbs—followed by a wave of caramelized sugars and toasted oak. The Chinquapin oak influence is evident early, contributing a slightly sweeter, nuttier aromatic profile than traditional American oak, with hints of toasted coconut, baking spice, and a faint maple note. This rye strikes a confident balance between intensity and refinement. The front end delivers rich toffee, dark honey, and brown sugar before segueing into a spice profile—cinnamon, nutmeg, and a minty herbal character. The finish lingers with a mix of charred oak, sweet spice, and a slightly dry, tannic edge. Notes of toasted nuts, leather, and baking chocolate emerge late, giving it a contemplative, almost dessert-like conclusion without becoming overly sweet. The Beck’s 6225 corn lends sweetness, and the Chinquapin oak finishing provides a unique twist that distinguishes it from more traditional rye releases. This is a great addition to your collection especially if you are interested in experimentation – in a good way.

Man oh man... What a zinger and banger of a white wine here. This one was right up my alley - like many of the industry folks, at a certain point in my wine journey I started chasing high acid, mineral driven wines - and this hits all the notes I love from my Rieslings. Incredibly austere, teeth numbing acid makes this wine the perfect pairing for the upcoming heat waves. On the palate you citrus, white nectarine, and peach pith, with the a long mineral driven finish of riverstone and white slate. If you are looking for Riesling from a region a little less known to the world, give this a go - no regrets will be found.

2023 Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc "Les Sétilles"
Reviwer Picture By: Cary Herrman | Review Date: 4/2/2026 | Send Email
This bottle is a reminder that Burgundy's "entry level" can still feel like a pretty luxurious place to start. The nose opens with bright lemon curd, crisp orchard apple, and a gentle whiff of white flowers. On the palate, it's clean and energetic with notes of ripe pear, Meyer lemon, and just a touch of toasted almond. There is a subtle creaminess through the mid-palate, but the acidity keeps everything lifted and refreshing. It finishes with a light mineral snap that keeps you wanting more. A Burgundy that punches comfortably above it's weight class, this is the kind of bottle that works just as well on a weeknight as it does when you're trying to impress someone who claims they "only drink Chablis". Crisp, charming, and dangerously easy to recommend.

Calling this a "Rosso" is honestly a disservice. In the hands of a legendary estate like Cerbaiona, this is essentially a baby Brunello that just happens to be accessible a few years earlier. It completely shatters the ceiling of the category and offers a brilliant, high-definition snapshot of their terroir. The 2023 is all about vibrant, electric tension. The nose doesn't try to fake weight or hide behind oak; it explodes with pure, unmanipulated Sangiovese character. This is of the best deal in Sangiovese if not Italy, period.

If you want to understand the soul of Montalcino, this is the bottle, and this is the vintage you absolutely must secure. The 2021 completely bypasses the heavy, baked notes that plague lesser estates in the region. The nose is a soaring, high-toned masterclass in precision. It delivers an intoxicating wave of crushed wild rose, sour cherry, and dried blood orange peel, all wrapped around a profound, cooling core of camphor and wet stone minerality. On the palate, it drives forward with a vertical, electric spine. It possesses that "crunchy," nervous energy that keeps the immense concentration of the 2021 vintage feeling completely weightless. The tannins are ultra-fine, chalky, and demanding. What a wine

Once in a great while, something great turns up in the lost and found. Pascal Doquet lost this batch of pure Mesnil Blanc de Blancs in his cellars for over two decades... And now we have the exceptionally rare opportunity to experience the top terroir in for Chardonnay in Champagne aged for over 20 years on the lees for an unheard of value. This wine not only has the fine, warm brioche aromas one would expect from a nearly 30 year old champagne, but also fantastic texture from ultra fine bubbles, beautiful white fruit and a still very fresh and chalky finish. We have never had anything like this and might not ever again- so don't miss it!

2025 Anonymous Wine Collective Contra Costa County Rosé of Mourvedre
Reviwer Picture By: Ryan Woodhouse | Review Date: 4/2/2026 | Send Email
This marks our inaugural rosé under Anonymous—and it’s nothing short of phenomenal. Mediterranean in spirit and crafted from Mourvèdre, this dry rosé comes from ancient, own-rooted vines planted over 120 years ago in the deep, sandy soils of Contra Costa County. These venerable vines have endured for more than a century thanks to those remarkably sandy soils, which are inhospitable to phylloxera and allowed them to survive when so many others did not. Naturally low-yielding, the old vines produce fruit of striking concentration, purity, and freshness. The grapes were gently pressed and fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel, then aged for four months on fine lees in a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak to build texture and nuance without sacrificing vibrancy. The result is a beautifully expressive rosé brimming with bright, juicy red fruit, hibiscus, alpine strawberry, and hints of spiced citrus peel, all underscored by a crystalline minerality. Dry and refreshingly precise, it balances crunchy fruit, tactile texture, and layered depth, finishing zesty and mouthwatering. I’ll be drinking this all spring and summer long—it’s simply delicious.

Pale greenish-gold color. Deep, luxurious nose of forest floor and flint. Palate unfolds with layers of creamy fruit. Medium body, good structure. Built to age, but enjoyable now!

Faultline 10 Year Old Cask Strength Single Barrel "Cask 1" 118.4 Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Reviwer Picture By: Josh Gelfand | Review Date: 4/1/2026 | Send Email
This first cask stood out as one of the highest-proof barrels of the lot, though that heat is surprisingly deceiving. While spice does the heavy lifting on the nose, a wonderful tart cherry sweetness sits prominently underneath, followed by burnt molasses, fresh eucalyptus, and cigar box. The oak is present from the very first sip, but the tannins never once overpower. Instead, they provide an elevating platform for the black cherry jam and bold, earthy spices to shine alongside notes of leather and garden mulch. Cinnamon, pepper, sweet paprika, and clove lead the way to the finish, which lands softly with the aid of a little orange oil essence. A touch of water assuredly sweetens the deal, releasing charred pineapple, cacao nibs, and even more burnt caramel. While it is certainly sippable neat, I recommend experimenting with a few drops to find the specific balance that works for you. It is well worth the effort.

K&L's "Faultline" 100 Proof Straight Bourbon Whiskey (750ml)
Reviwer Picture By: Josh Gelfand | Review Date: 4/1/2026 | Send Email
What a fun batch this was to put together! From the original 10 barrels of 10 and 8-year-old bourbons, our team tasted through them all to pick our two favorite standouts for the single barrel cask strength bottling. We then meticulously combined, measured, proofed, and tested the rest to make sure we nailed the profile for this 100-proof banger. The 10-year-old casks came from a mid-high rye 75/21/4 mash bill, while the 8-year-old barrels used an even higher rye 60/36/4 recipe. This overall high-rye blend carries the perfect balance of sweet and spice to be approachable, sippable, and crushable. It is truly worthy of carrying on the Faultline legacy during K&L’s 50th year. So let’s dive in, shall we? A resonant burnt sienna color greets you, and the nose invites you in with warm clove, cinnamon, spent coffee grounds, chocolate-covered orange peel, and a touch of golden raisins. The palate introduces marmalade, peanut butter, and Mexican hot chocolate to the mix, with a wisp of extracted roots that hints at the aromatic bitters used in an Old Fashioned. It is exactly the kind of cocktail this bourbon begs to be used for. The finish is easy, almost demanding that you jump back in for another sip. This will shine in any whiskey concoction, but it is just as impressive standing alone. At a mere $40, it is worth every penny.

2018 Donnas 'Classico' Valle d'Aosta
Reviwer Picture By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 4/1/2026 | Send Email
The Donnas DOC was the very first appellation established in Valle d'Aosta back in 1971, and it is widely considered the "mountain sibling" of Barolo. Here, Nebbiolo is known locally as Picotendro, a clone perfectly adapted to the thin air and biting cold of the Alps. The Caves Coopératives de Donnas is the beating heart of this tiny appellation. Formed by a dedicated group of local growers, this cooperative is the ultimate guardian of "heroic viticulture." The vineyards here are a breathtaking architectural marvel, clinging to impossibly steep cliffs on terraces supported by ancient dry-stone walls. The vines are trained on traditional wooden pergolas anchored by massive stone pillars that absorb the sun’s heat during the day and radiate it back to the grapes at night. Because of this extreme terroir, this Nebbiolo behaves differently than its Piedmontese cousins. It sheds the heavy, gripping weight, favoring instead a lifted, nervous energy. It's a testament to human perseverance in the mountains, offering alpine freshness, dried rose, and wild mountain herbs.

2024 Frisino Verdeca Puglia
Reviwer Picture By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 4/1/2026 | Send Email
When we think of Puglia, the heel of the Italian boot, we usually picture massive, sun-baked red wines. But the true insider secret of the region lies in its indigenous whites. Verdeca is a grape that was historically misunderstood, often relegated to bulk wine or used as a base for Vermouth. Today, a new generation of winemakers is proving that this resilient local variety is capable of producing some of Southern Italy’s most thrilling and energetic white wines. The Frisino estate, located in the Taranto province near the Ionian Sea, perfectly represents this modern Puglian renaissance. They farm their estate vineyards with a deep respect for the harsh, sun-drenched landscape, relying on the region’s calcareous clay soils and the constant, cooling maritime breezes to preserve the grape's natural acidity. The resulting Verdeca is a masterclass in regional identity. Rather than a flabby, overripe white, this terroir yields a wine defined by its saline minerality, crisp citrus tension, and delicate notes of Mediterranean scrub. It is a brilliant, thirst-quenching reflection of the Puglian coast that beautifully champions a once-forgotten grape.

2020 Randi Burson 'Randi Selezione' Ravenna IGT
Reviwer Picture By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 4/1/2026 | Send Email
This is one of the most fascinating rescue stories in Italian viticulture. In the 1920s, a man named Antonio Longanesi discovered a single, unknown vine climbing the branches of an old oak tree in the swamplands of Emilia-Romagna. He propagated it, saving the grape from total extinction. Today, that grape is known as Uva Longanesi, and the wine made from it is trademarked as Bursôn—the historical nickname of the Longanesi family. Tenuta Randi is one of the key pillars of the Consorzio Il Bagnacavallo, a small, fiercely dedicated group of Romagnolo producers protecting this ultra-rare variety. Grown in the alluvial plains of Ravenna, where the Adriatic Sea influences the climate, the Longanesi grape is notoriously thick-skinned and rustic, demanding immense patience both in the vineyard and the cellar. To tame its massive structure, the "Selezione" tier often borrows techniques from Amarone, utilizing a partial drying of the grapes (appassimento) and extended aging in oak. It is dark, brooding, and powerfully structured.

Fallet-Dart "Clos du Mont" Brut Champagne (2006)
Reviwer Picture By: Jonathan Parnell | Review Date: 4/1/2026 | Send Email
Pale straw color. Nose gives baguette, shortbread cookie, honey and a touch of spiced apple cider. Fine bubbles lead to a palate of baked brie, dried apricot, clove and allspice. This would be a lovely pairing with a cheese board, the aforementioned baked brie, lobster roll and saffron pasta with sea urchin.

Elijah Craig 18 Year Old Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Reviwer Picture By: Josh Gelfand | Review Date: 4/1/2026 | Send Email
There is no profile in the Heaven Hill portfolio, and perhaps in all of Kentucky, more polarizing than the Elijah Craig 18 Year Old. For years, this was the "white whale" of the extra-aged bourbon world, and it remains the bottle everyone loves to debate. Is it too oaky? Is it too dry? For me, those questions totally miss the point. This isn’t a "crushable" Tuesday night pour. It is a high-wire act of maturation. When you leave a 78% corn mash bill in a rickhouse for eighteen years, the wood is going to talk. The genius here is in finding those specific barrels that can handle that conversation without being shouted down by the oak, and those folks in Bardstown know exactly where to stash these singular casks to get exactly what they want from them. At 90 proof, this is intentionally proofed back to let those tertiary, "old whiskey" notes actually breathe. If this were bottled at hazmat strength, the tannins would likely strip the enamel off your teeth. Instead, it is a sophisticated, leather-bound, study-in-a-glass kind of dram. It is the quintessential "armchair whiskey" for when you have nowhere to be and all the time in the world to get there. The nose is a deep dive into an antique humidor with polished mahogany, cherry pipe tobacco, and a heavy dose of charred toffee. There is a faint, minty herbaceousness underneath, almost like dried eucalyptus, that keeps the density in check. On the palate, the texture is surprisingly silky. It leads with dark chocolate-covered dried blueberries and old-fashioned licorice, followed by a mid-palate of burnt orange peel, vanilla bean, roasted peanuts, and toasted pumpernickel bread. The oak is absolutely there, showing up as a dry, spicy structure of clove and cinnamon, but it is buffered by a lingering sweetness of dark honey and molasses. The finish is incredibly long and drying in the best way possible, trailing off with a refined puff of cigar smoke and a touch of mint. This is a monumental bourbon for the seasoned palate, and coming in significantly under the $200 mark, it’s an absolute bargain compared to some of the other heavier aged bourbons you'll find out there.

2024 Dr. Loosen Erdener Prälat Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Mosel
Reviwer Picture By: Aaron Hughes | Review Date: 3/31/2026 | Send Email
Another just absolutely dreamy Riesling, but once more I feel like I'm having this way way too young, there's just so much depth there I want to know what this is like when it's fully integrated and just in a perfect place. That being said, I'm super glad I got to taste it, it has some of that white tea but with just so much fruit on the nose, and it really kind of smells noticeably sweet, the palate is quite sweet at first but as you sip more and the acidity comes more into place it feels a lot drier. This is another wine to be had with some cheese or spicy food or just something magical, because this itself is already so deep and incredibly tasty. I kind of want to have this with a really sharp cheddar mac & cheese. I might do that. Ask me how it went.

2022 Fritz Haag Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Mosel

Ho ho, so I guess I wasn't supposed to pull this one for the tasting this morning, but I am super glad that I did because it's amazing. Sorry if you wait for the end of the review to find out what I think but yeah, it was the best mistake I've made in a while. The nose has a great foundation of petrol, white flowers, pretty orchard fruit, and then you take a sip and everything there is just giving 110%, and I know there's at least one person out there who just thought "that's not how percentages work". You might be factually correct, but I am a writer and I get away with stuff like that. It's really just incredibly stellar, such a deep and yet still pretty palate with amazing fruit touches of petrol still and just lovely lovely jasmine. Again there's just so much acidity here that while you know it's sweet, your tongue knows it sweet, the whole thing keeps your mouth watering so long it feels like it's much drier than it is. Fantastic stuff, the kind of Riesling you love to love. I love it.

While I realize there are a number of people who turn up their nose at a sweeter Riesling, you are not on my Christmas Card list. These wines are beautiful and with some spicy foods they can be absolutely transformative. The nose on this is lush and super pretty, with this kind of tropical mango tea note, but also with super ripe and juicy peach, super juicy pear, lots of flowers. The palate is such a peach treat, really juicy and fresh with great vibrant acidity that really masks how sweet the wine actually is, it does not come across cloying in the least and the acidity pushes through and keeps the mouth watering until the sugar is gone. I love this so much, it's a great price for a great wine and have this with some spicy Asian food and say thanks later.

2020 Selbach-Oster "OMG" Riesling Trocken Mosel

Alright folks, and you know who you are, this is the one for you. Yes, the people looking for something a little strange, a little different, something orange or skin contact or something like that. It's here, this is the one from Germany that we're carrying that's that way. That being said, it's also pretty good and very inoffensive for a very natural presenting wine. The nose has a little touch of sour beer, light little touch of petrol, really dense but ripe fruit, and a kind of light and inoffensive funk. The palate is very dry, reasonable acidity and with a slight tannic grip from the skin contact. There's a little bit of stewed fruit, a little bit of that sour beer on the palate and then a little bit more funk. Overall this is pretty clean and a great entry point for people who want to try an orange wine or a skin contact wine, but don't want anything too scary.

2024 Wittmann "Estate" Riesling Trocken (dry) Rheinhessen

I just really don't get tired of Riesling, even if I decide I don't want a dry one right now there's a few different levels to go up that will probably make me happy at some point. This has a really soft and pretty nose, lots of minerality and a little bit of fruit. The palate has much deeper pretty fruit, lots of peach and then a lot more minerality on the lingering and lengthy finish. These are so good, crazy enjoyable, and with such a great depth, it's always weird to me how well priced these wines are. It's fantastic all the way through, every day.

This was the wine that made me turn to my coworker next to me and whisper that I needed a few of these in a cooler on a hot day. No glasses needed, just right from the bottle, probably with a couple cubes still stuck to the glass. It's just so good and easy and clean, really great pretty fruit really high citrus and just such pushing acid really cleansing and pretty and just so approachable. I love this so much. It's really perfect as a super clean Austrian Riesling.

2023 Zind-Humbrecht Turckheim Gewürztraminer Alsace

Well, here I am, drinking potpourri again. This time, though, I will admit I don't mind that I'm drinking potpourri, it's delicious but it definitely is what it is. A medley of rose, white flowers, jasmine, honeysuckle, and white tea, this is definitely for someone who wants a pretty and floral wine. The palate is also very floral, there's some fruit here but it's really kind of drowned out by the overall feeling of drinking a delightful dry white wine, with a phenolic slightly bitter finish, while a florist is violently but ineffectively attacking you with bouquets to the face, or more simply: It's a lot of fun, and I'd drink it again. This wine scratches a very particular itch and I really could see myself enjoying this with some cheese or the right schnitzel.

Some wines, you get this kind of aura from them and that's what I get as I take in the bouquet on this, it's just got this aura of something special. There's a depth and layering of the nose that is just fantastic, crazy alluring and really working for me right now. The palate has great breadth, really delightfully savory in the middle and then widening out with a long and deep acidity that pushes through the whole thing. This is crazy serious and it's honestly way too early to know how this will ultimately turn out, I just have this feeling it's going to be completely amazing with the right amount of time. I want to try this again in 20 years, can someone remind me when it's time?

2024 Schloss Gobelsburg "Schlosskellerei" Riesling Kamptal
Reviwer Picture By: Aaron Hughes | Review Date: 3/31/2026 | Send Email
When you're talking about Austrian wine, you can safely assume it's going to be incredibly dry with some great acidity, and you'll almost never be wrong. You wouldn't be wrong here. Really lovely nose with this faint whisp of petrol dancing and winding its way through the whole thing, just something really faint around the edges with a lot of pure and clean fruit in the core. Peaches, apricots, nectarines, the whole kit and kaboodle of the lumpily pitted fruits and just a little touch of jasmine at the finish. This has a seductiveness to it, and sure okay I'll take a sip. The palate is pleasantly deep almost approaching mid-heavy with a really ripe peachpear and acidity that kind of builds as you continue to sip, really cleansing on the palate and something I could see helping me get through something heavy. I dig it big time.
