| If you’re going to have Robert Parker or Stephen Tanzer over for dinner, selecting a wine they’ve rated highly will be a nice choice. However, when you’re buying wines for yourself, we’d love to see you find wines that match up your unique palate and pocketbook. We have a large staff of friendly and knowledgeable wine professionals that taste hundreds of wines each week. They can put you in touch with bottles that you are likely to love, often at a much lower cost than the highly-rated gems that often see a run-up in price and frequent availability issues. Like any great group of opinionated professionals, our staff has varied tastes themselves. Often our customers will find a particular staff member with a style that corresponds to their own. That concept works extremely well in our retail stores, and this section is our effort to bring you the same online. Don’t get us wrong, we love the highly rated wines from the press and will continue to offer them, but we think you’re missing out if you’re not augmenting those selections with picks from our excellent staff. Here are their favorites. (Click on a name to see their other selections - or to drop them a line.) Cheers! |

Delightful aromas plump apricots, ripe peaches, lemons, acacia flowers.
On the palate, refreshing flavors of quince, yellow orchards, almond slices, with a nice touch of green melons. What a great bottle of Falanghina from this awesome producer from Campania.

his wine stands as one of the best values in all of white Burgundy. Pouilly-Fuissé, with its wealth of Premier Cru vineyards, is uniquely positioned to produce wines of impressive structure and purity of fruit, and this bottling is a textbook example. The 2023 Domaine Guillaume Curveux Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru Les Vignes Blanches opens with pristine orchard fruit, beautifully accented by notes of flint and wet stone. The wine’s layered complexity unfolds seamlessly, supported by ample fruit and racy, well-integrated acidity. The finish is long and precise, with lingering echoes of orchard fruit gradually fading away.

The 2018 Fallet Dart Champagne is light, approachable, and so drinkable. Soft notes of brioche give it a classic Champagne warmth, while light lemon adds freshness and lift on the palate. Balanced and easygoing, this is a Champagne that is perfect for sipping while you cook dinner or for during a relaxed conversation. Further I'd like to add that this champagne punches well above its price point!

The 2022 Château Coudert shows a dark-fruited, approachable profile with notes of blackberry and plum, accented by warm spice and cocoa. On the palate, there’s a touch of tannic bitterness that adds structure, but it’s handled well with the wine being silky overall. As the wine opens, a subtle thread of licorice emerges beneath the fruit, adding depth. Balanced and expressive, this is a satisfying, character-driven Bordeaux that delivers both comfort and complexity at a great price point.

The 2024 Casa D Ambra Frassitelli Ischia Biancolella is bright, saline, and unmistakably Mediterranean. The nose opens with yellow flowers and notes of Mediterranean scrub, immediately evoking the sea air and island vibes. On the palate, a striking mineral backbone and pronounced salinity drive the wine, giving it energy and precision while staying beautifully refreshing. It’s vibrant, coastal, and expressive. This is my favorite Italian white of 2024 so far!

This brand-spanking new arrival is one of those rarities that can please parties on both side of the Chardonnay fence. Those who love a richer style and those who love some acidity to their white wines. First of all, there is the nose. A nice bit of white flowers, yellow apples, crisp lemons and oranges. There are also scents of buttery toffee and sea salt. On the palate, many of these scents carry onto the flavor profile. The texture is creamy with apple and lemon tart flavors, sweet peach and underlying (gentle) oak and minerals. Nicely clean finish. As I said, pretty much something to please everyone!

Laurent-Perrier "Cuvée Rosé" Brut Rosé Champagne
By: Cary Herrman | Review Date: 2/7/2026 | Send Email
This is a Rose Champagne that leans into pleasure and personality. The nose shows a touch of yeast and warmth, hinting at a mildly sweeter profile without ever being heavy. On the palate, it's tasty and immediately engaging, with a gentle residual sugar that rounds things out and a subtle hint of funk that keeps it interesting.
There's a easygoing charm to this bottle that makes it incredibly versatile - equally at home on a beach, a porch, or poured as the centerpiece of a celebration.
It's approachable, crowd-pleasing, and quietly distinctive, this is the kind of rose that disappears faster than you'd expect.
Billecart-Salmon "Le Rosé" Champagne
By: Cary Herrman | Review Date: 2/7/2026 | Send Email
This is a rose Champagne defined by finesse, consistency, and restraint. The nose is light and delicate, offering subtle red berry and floral notes that stay firmly in the background rather than taking center stage. The palate follows suit- silky, airy, and very light on it's feet, prioritizing elegance over intensity.
Billecart-Salmon's precision is evident here, with dosage carefully adjusted year to year to maintain the house's unmistakable style. The result is a Rose' that feels polished and reliable, delivering balance and approachability.
Le Rose Remains a masterclass in controlled elegance. It's refined, dependable, and unmistakably Billecart.
Fallet-Dart "Clos du Mont" Brut Champagne (2006)
By: Cary Herrman | Review Date: 2/7/2026 | Send Email
An intriguing and quietly compelling Champagne, Clos Du Mont leans more intellectual than flashy, and I am a big fan! It immediately calls to mind a Sancerre-like profile, but without the sharp edges or overt salinity. Instead, everything feels rounded, composed, and thoughtfully restrained.
The palate is clean and focused, driven by freshness rather than aggression, with a sense of clarity that keeps each sip engaging. This is the kind of Champagne that rewards curiosity: neat, distinctive, and refreshingly different.

2019 Fallet-Dart "Pur Meunier" Champagne
By: Cary Herrman | Review Date: 2/7/2026 | Send Email
From the first pour, this Pur Meunier sets itself apart, offering a level of charm and depth that few wines at this price point would ever achieve. Made from 100% Meunier-Champagne's truly indigenous grape-this bottling shows just how expressive and compelling the varietal can be in the right hands. The nose is immediately captivating, opening with tropical dragonfruit, ripe melon, and a lush, creamy note that feels refined rather than overt.
On the palate, it delivers exactly what the aromatics promise: a beautifully creamy texture layered with tropical fruit and a subtle, perfectly judged sweetness that adds richness without tipping into excess. Everything feels harmonious and assured, with Meunier showing it's most generous, confident side.
This is the kind of bottle that quietly steals the show and lingers in your memory long after the glass is empty.

Wow this is great value. I could easily be convinced that I am drinking something from the Cote d'or if I hadn't seen the label. While this wine is high in oak, the quality of the 1er cru vineyard is still at the forefront. The wine's limestone character and lemon peel aroma balance the oak, leading to a wine with both elegance and power. The palate is creamy, concentrated and finishes long with mouth-watering acidity.

2019 Fallet-Dart "Pur Meunier" Champagne
By: Gary Westby | Review Date: 2/7/2026 | Send Email
By: Gary Westby | Review Date: 2/7/2026 | Send Email
This was the best new Champagne of my 2025 buying trip. It comes from two 80-year-old, massal selected plots of Meunier called Morlot and Les Chaillots in Drachy on the Fallet Dart estate. The Champenois, who rarely hype vintages, fancy 2019 as the best vintage since at least 2012, and perhaps 2008, and this early release is a confirmation of the incredible potential of this special year. This wine was made in stainless steel, has a white gold color, and a seductive aroma of crisp Anjou pear framed by fresh baguette. In the mouth it has the generosity and richness that Meunier is famous for, but without becoming heavy. The star here is the finish: it is incredibly long, expansive, and loaded with tarte tatin complexity, old-vine minerality, and dry savor—all displayed like a fanned-out peacock’s tail! This wine demonstrates just how noble Meunier can be when it comes from old vines, a careful winemaker, and is given enough time on the lees. Don't miss it- there was only one press load made!

Fallet-Dart "Grande Sélection" Brut Champagne
By: Cary Herrman | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
A Champagne that sneaks up on you-in the best way. The nose is light and refined, but the palate delivers far more than expected, with real presence and momentum once it hits. Bright citrus and stone fruit give way to a subtle savory edge that adds serious intrigue.
There's a quietly mesmerizing note here. Think sea salt ice cream, where freshness, creaminess, and salinity all intersect. It's polished without being stiff, expressive without being showy, and incredibly easy to recommend across the board.
This is a crowd pleasing Brut with depth, charm, and just enough personality to keep you coming back for more.

1998 Long Pond (ITP) 24 Year Old "Rest & Be Thankful" Single Barrel Jamaica Rum (700ml)
By: David Othenin-Girard | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
By: David Othenin-Girard | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
The magical Long Pond distillery remains extremely limited in availability, and old barrels have become exceedingly rare on the open market. So when we had the opportunity to snag the last of this cask at under-market pricing, I did not hesitate. To be perfectly frank, this would have sold out on its own, but I needed an excuse to open a bottle. It turns out writing reviews is the perfect cover for my selfish habit. In any case, Long Pond is an absolutely incredible distillery located in the northern part of Trelawny Parish, one of the few still using proper muck pits and consistently producing some of Jamaica’s most flavorful rums. Several closures over the past two decades have impacted the distillery, but it is now back up and running. This mark, the relatively restrained LSO, can still be extremely flavorful, albeit without an overt focus on funk. Long Pond always delivers something deeply characterful. Let’s have at it. The color is a deep gold, rated 0.8. The nose is extremely powerful and wildly expressive, with so much flavor you might expect even higher ester levels. Notes of banana cream pie, roasted almonds, pineapple, diesel smoke, burnt rubber, ginseng, grilled citrus, bitter orange oil, and candied dates unfold in dense layers that seem endless. On the palate, there is an explosion of lemon oil, concentrated candied tropical fruit, exotic spice, and an intense industrial edge leaning toward diesel oil. This is an absolute monster and not at all for the uninitiated, but it can turn even the most discerning drinkers into rum lovers in a moment. Rum of this caliber will not be available at this price point in any meaningful way in the future. That is the sad truth, but also a golden opportunity if you are reading this now.

Damien Hugot "Hommage 1921" Extra Brut Champagne
By: Alex Leonardini | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
By: Alex Leonardini | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
The Damien Hugot “Hommage 1920” is perhaps the mostly subtly seductive wine in the line-up. The nose is more restrained, wafting hints of yuzu, apple, and salty ocean air lifting from the glass in slow, lazy pulses. It isn’t shy, exactly, just quietly reserved, hinting at an underlying complexity without needing to show off. The palate is similarly focused, with sea salt, oyster shell, zested yuzu, peach skin, and toasted almond all tracing a linear path across the palate into a precise, mineral finish. This is a bottle that demands you take your time, slowly unpacking all it has to offer. Really impressive.

Damien Hugot Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru
By: Alex Leonardini | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
By: Alex Leonardini | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
A slightly leaner yet notably more fruit-driven sibling to the Grand Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs, the Extra Brut bottling shows layers of red and green apple, baked pear, white peach, and jasmine. All the minerality, toast, freshly baked brioche, and leesy richness of the Brut is present as well, and the finish is noticeably chalkier, but the extra fruit profile leads this to be perhaps the more approachable of the two bottlings in this batch. I suppose the only way to know is to try both, preferably side-by-side.

2019 Baricci "Montosoli" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva
By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
If the 2021 is about ethereal elegance, the 2019 Riserva is about profound depth and classic power. Sourced from the oldest vines on the estate and aged longer in traditional Slavonian oak, this is a wine built for the ages.
The 2019 vintage provided the perfect structural framework for a long-lived Riserva. The wine is youthfully inward and brooding, slowly revealing layers of black raspberry, balsamic spice, sage, and licorice. It is darker and more savory than the annata, with a core of iron-like minerality that speaks to the ancient soils of the vineyard. The finish is endless, driven by youthful tension and noble tannins. This is a wine to bury in the cellar for a decade; it will emerge as one of the greatest wines of your life.

By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
The 2021 vintage is a modern legend, and this specific bottle has already achieved mythical status with a perfect 100-point score.
This is the definition of Montosoli elegance. It does not rely on heavy extraction or new oak; it seduces you with purity. The nose is mesmerizing, offering soaring aromas of truffle, violet pastille, ripe wild berries, and new leather, all lifted by a distinct, dusty minerality. On the palate, it features "textures of pure silk." It is medium-bodied but intense, with ultra-fine tannins that coat the mouth without ever feeling aggressive. It is flawless balance—a wine that feels weightless yet persists on the palate for minutes. A true masterpiece.

By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
Do not make the mistake of thinking this is just a "Rosso." Because Baricci’s entire estate lies within the Montosoli cru, this is effectively declassified Grand Cru Brunello.
In the 2024 vintage—a year defined by a hot July but a miraculously cool, even ripening season in August and September—the northern exposure of Montosoli was the magic ticket. While others struggled with heat, Baricci retained vibrant acidity. The nose is a high-toned explosion of wild strawberries, crushed rock, and fresh rose petals. On the palate, it offers a "crunchy" tension and saline minerality that you rarely find in a Rosso. It is electric, savory, and undeniably serious.

1998 Monymusk (MMW) 23 Year Old "Rest & Be Thankful" Single Barrel #13326 Jamaica Rum (700ml)
By: David Othenin-Girard | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
By: David Othenin-Girard | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
Rest & Be Thankful was started by a couple of industry veterans in 2010 and has quietly sourced some of the best casks on the market for almost 20 years. This spectacular Monymusk comes from a bottling done almost five years ago, and we were lucky to snag it at this special price. Very few things can touch old Jamaican rum for complexity, and the MMW style thrives with long aging. This gorgeous cask was distilled in August 1998 and aged both tropically and continentally before bottling in 2021. It boasts a solidly high 197.8 gr/hlpa of esters and 622.1 gr/hlpa of volatile substances, meaning a medium to high level of flavor elements in the rum. It was aged entirely in used American oak and bottled without chill-filtration or additives of any kind at a natural cask strength of 59.9% and an angel's share over the course of 23 year of over 45%. After such long aging we'd expect an incredible show here and I was not disappointed. Let's see it. Color is shimmery burnished (1.1). The nose opens wide and pungent, but not too funky, instead huge tropical fruit, dense dry exotic woods and a diesel engine industrial note that makes me so very happy. The palate is dry and linear offering tart passion fruit, camphor, saffron, toasted clove and green tea. An incredible value by any measure considering where the market for old Jamaican rum has gone in the last five years, and with the added discount, this is a no-brainer for any rum lover looking to pad the collection.

2024 Rendez-Vous Côtes-du-Rhône Villages by K&L Wine Merchants
By: Keith Mabry | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
By: Keith Mabry | Review Date: 2/6/2026 | Send Email
We began the Discovery Series as a way to introduce our clients to outstanding producers from well-defined regions, pairing great wines with the history and backstory that bring them to life. We were truly astounded by the success and reception of these wines, and deeply encouraged by the trust you placed in us to deliver what we consider best-in-class wines at best-in-class prices under a label we will continue to develop.
During the search for Discovery wines, however, I encountered a number of bottles that didn’t quite fit that specific mold, yet still offered incredible quality and value. That realization led to the creation of the Rendez-Vous label — a place to showcase wines we believe will become staples in your weeknight rotation.
This project was born during a visit with our friends at Dauvergne et Ranvier in the Southern Rhône. Together, we conducted a series of blind tasting trials, working through dozens of samples and experimenting with different lots to build what I hoped would become the perfect Rhône-style blend. I began by tasting individual parcels — some already blended, others single varietal expressions. Several Côtes du Rhône lots produced charming and approachable wines, but once we moved into the Côtes du Rhône Villages selections, the depth of fruit and overall expansiveness increased dramatically.
After settling on my preferred blend, we presented it to our winery partners. Watching everyone’s reactions as we arrived at the final composition was incredibly rewarding — we were unanimous in our enthusiasm. Just like that, our first Côtes du Rhône Villages blend was born.
The final wine leans toward Syrah (approximately 70%), supported by a generous 30% Grenache. It shows a beautiful core of raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, backed by impressive concentration and layered notes of tobacco, black pepper, and savory spice. Now that the wine has rested in bottle after its journey from France to our warehouse, it has fully settled into its character.
At recent staff trainings, I shared this wine with our teams and felt that same sense of satisfaction seeing their reactions. It has quickly become a staff favorite. There is tremendous personality here and, as I like to say, it truly overdelivers for the price.
Join us for a little Rendez-Vous with this exciting new release — I think you’ll find as much pleasure in drinking it as we did creating it.

This is an elegant wine. The nose offers minerality, white flowers, and a lovely umami note. The palate shows great concentration—so much energy pulses through this wine. 1926 Vaghi Vintage Armagnac
By: David Othenin-Girard | Review Date: 2/5/2026 | Send Email
By: David Othenin-Girard | Review Date: 2/5/2026 | Send Email
The collection of Armagnacs we have amassed includes more than 80 vintages of Bas-Armagnac and Armagnac, bottled at various times over the last 30 years, but very few compare to this outrageous vintage. Buying the same stocks today would easily cost over $2,000 a bottle and likely would not be as good as this, which was bottled way back in 1995. This was already matured to the maximum possible level after 70 years, and any more time in oak might have pushed it over the edge. Certain other vintages we sell are technically older than this but were distilled later. Armagnac is true magic. No other spirit offers such incredible aging potential while remaining relatively accessible to the average buyer. Let us see what 70 years in barrel can do.
The nose starts dense and full of OBE, the Old Bottle Effect. It's slightly oily, slightly metallic, but not off-putting. With air, it opens to reveal an incredible array of exotic woods and spices: cedar, sandalwood, balsam, dried mint, dried rose petals, sarsaparilla, blackberry compote, coffee beans, and graphite. On the palate, expect big roasted baking spices, dark fruit, earthy warehouse floor, rich oak, and medium tannins that are not hard or harsh at all. The finish is medium and begs to be followed by another sip. An incredible value that we simply will not be able to match in the future.

2013 Pierre Ferrand 9 Year Old Limited Edition Cask Strength Single Cask Cognac (750ml)
By: Josh Gelfand | Review Date: 2/5/2026 | Send Email
By: Josh Gelfand | Review Date: 2/5/2026 | Send Email
The youngest, and lowest proof ( and lowest yield) of the bunch still packs in everything you want from an *almost* XO Cognac. Distilled in 2013, bottled in 2022, and coming in at 50.6% ABV, this beauty carries the weight and body you’d want with the sweet elegance we expect from Maison Ferrand. Fruit leads the way, as he noses introduces fresh baked cherry danish, warm toffee, stewed orchard fruits, rose pedals, cacao and orange zest. The first sip introduces some apricot and lemongrass, along with honeysuckle and lavender, with a touch of nutmeg and anise. It finishes with a bit of drying fruit leather and sandalwood, settling back to the warm baked fruits that started the journey. A small splash of water releases some of the earthier flavors, bringing out a touch more wood and spice, while keeping the fruity and floral foundation bright and lively. This is a wonderful VSOP that dances on the edge of XO, but really it’s more about the uniqueness than the age. This is an everyday cognac, an elegant cognac, and a wonderful start to the single cask Pierre Ferrand journey.

2012 Pierre Ferrand 9 Year Old Limited Edition Cask Strength Single Cask Cognac (750ml)

By: Josh Gelfand | Review Date: 2/5/2026 | Send Email
Coming in at a staggering 136.6 proof, this is an absolute beast of a Cognac, and one that whiskey lovers will likely gravitate toward. Not just because of the strength, but because it delivers a broad range of whisky-like flavors that many Cognacs leave behind. Distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2021, it is robust, playful, and demands your full attention. The nose opens with fresh-roasted coffee beans, tiramisu, dried figs and apricots, plum molasses, and orange blossom honey, followed by hints of lychee and oak moss. The first sip is unapologetically bold, bringing leather, toffee, licorice, mushrooms, and a peppery spice. Water is very much this spirit’s friend. It softens the edges and reveals additional fruit and floral notes, along with deeper layers of roasted caramel and honey. The finish returns to coffee, dates, and plums, joined by cigar box and soft leather. This is not a shy spirit by any measure, and a bit of water is key to opening it up and revealing its beautiful layers.

Damien Hugot Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru
By: Cary Herrman | Review Date: 2/5/2026 | Send Email
Damien Hugot's Extra Brut Blanc De Blanc Grand Cru walks the tightrope between classic Champagne seriousness and bright, modern energy-and nails the landing. The nose opens up with fresh brioche and bakery warmth, quickly followed by crisp pear and green apple that keeps things lively and precise.
On the palate, it's cool, clean, and sharply focused, with a finish that leans almost Sauvignon Blanc-esque in it's freshness and mineral snap. Chalky tension and racy acidity keep everything humming, while the low dosage lets the Grand Cru fruit speak clearly without makeup or distraction. The result is a Champagne that feels intentional, energetic, and refreshingly honest. A bottle for purists who still like a little swagger. It's equally at home with oysters, salty snacks, or a "just one more glass" mentality.

The 2022 Mount Edward Pinot Noir is composed of destemmed fruit with 25% whole clusters that underwent native yeast fermentation. It aged 11 months in French oak barrels, 20% of which were new. Vegan, organic, and biodynamic. Fresh and bright—juicy red cherry, wild strawberry, violets, bouquet garni, and a grounding hint of asphalt in the finish. After being cooped up under a stelvin, let this breathe for a few minutes to reveal all it has to offer. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal SO2 and maximum deliciousness.

Laurent Perrier is one of my favorite houses in Champagne, and I found their Rose to be a true delight. Made in the skin-contact style, this wine has expressive notes of red fruit, cherry, raspberry and strawberry dominate the palate with a hint of lemon to tie it all together with some lively acidity. One of my favorites in Rose champagne, buy for any occasion.

The 2022 Mount Edward Pinot Noir is a standout New Zealand Pinot that seriously overdelivers for the price. Bright red cherry and hibiscus notes lead, with savory herbal layers adding depth and balance. It’s beautifully pure, fresh, and expressive, showing real care in the winemaking. If you love elegant, food-friendly Pinot with character and value, this is an easy yes.

It should come as no surprise that Billecart-Salmon makes an exceptional Rose champagne. "Le Rose" is a clean, crisp aperitif champagne, with hints of cherry, raspberry, and citrus, wrapped up with chalky minerality. An elegant, complex, delicious champagne, just in time for Valentine's Day.

"Clos du Mont" from Fallet Dart has aged beautifully over the past twenty years. As rich and complex as you'd expect champagne from the 2006 vintage, this wine has notes of lemon, ginger, toast, honey, and stone fruit, with a long, fresh finish. This is the perfect champagne to pair with food, but it's fantastic on its own. Buy while we have it.

2022 Mount Edward Pinot Noir Central Otago

Pure Central Otago Pinot with both freshness and depth. Bright red cherry, wild strawberry, and cranberry lead, followed by subtle notes of thyme, crushed herbs, and a touch of earth that ground the fruit. The palate is vibrant and energetic, with fine, silky tannins and a lively acidity that keeps everything lifted and precise. There’s a beautiful balance here between ripeness and restraint — generous without being heavy, expressive without losing elegance. A confident, cool-climate Pinot that drinks beautifully now but has the structure to develop with a little time in bottle.

This is one of my favorite value champagnes in the store, one of the best wines in Fallet Dart's incredible lineup. Clean and crisp, this champagne has a distinct honey note up front, with notes of orchard fruit and fresh bread following it. A long, clean finish wrap up this exceptional wine, a true steal at just under 40 dollars.

2024 Domaine Pascal & Mireille Renaud Mâcon-Charnay

In contrast to the Macon Soultre, the Charnay has a more upfront fruited nose with the orchard fruits at the forefront, while the citrusy scents come in afterward. It does have the similar white flower scents of the Soultre but, the fruits are more yellow than white, though there are white fruits, for sure. The quite rich palate has mouth-coasting fruit of yellow apple, cream and white peach. Like the Soultre, the finish is more mineral driven and clean with bright citrus. These siblings are both mightily attractive in each their own way!

I'm not the biggest fan of Extra Brut champagne, but I have yet to find an Extra Brut from Damien Hugot I dislike, and "Homage 1921" is yet another example of this trend. Rich and expressive, this wine has bready notes on the nose, followed by notes of orchard fruit and citrus on the palate mixed with a beautiful creamy texture. A crisp. clean champagne with the complexity one would expect from oak cask fermentation. Buy before it's gone.

2019 Fallet-Dart "Pur Meunier" Champagne

By: Scott Beckerley | Review Date: 2/4/2026 | Send Email
I am pretty sure that I tasted this as a still wine during my Vin Clair write-ups for 2020. I have a picture of the bottle. It was astoundingly drinkable before it even became bubbles! Now that it is a bubbly, that only added to the character and the quality. This bottling has some very nice and crispy scents combined with that classic Pinot Meunier earthiness and smoke. Key lime, green pear, caramel cream. On the palate, although the citrus does carry over, the palate has a gentle richness of orchard fruits, with acidity at the tip and back of the tongue. Once gain the tart lime flavors pop up and linger on the finish. Joining them are green and yellow pears, fresh ginger and some lightly roasted nuts flavors. This is not "funky" Pinot Meunier but, clean AND rich Pinot Meunier. Sorry, Phil Mc! Here's a wonderfully drinkablle one! Chhers to you, Doc Salad!

This is one of the most charming and distinct red blends you will find from Campania, and a brilliant introduction to the historic Ocone estate. If you love the power of Aglianico but want something approachable enough for tonight's dinner, the "Bozzovich Nero" is your answer.
A blend of Aglianico and Piedirosso (the grape responsible for the soft, aromatic wines of Vesuvius), this wine offers the best of both worlds. The Aglianico provides the structure and depth, while the Piedirosso adds a layer of softness, perfume, and drinkability that makes this wine incredibly versatile.

Vibrant, expressive, and instantly recognizable, this rosé is all about pure Pinot Noir character. Bursting with bright red berries — wild strawberry, raspberry, and cherry — alongside rose petal and citrus, the wine is energetic and aromatic from the first pour. The palate is lively and refreshing, driven by crisp acidity that keeps the fruit lifted and clean. Bold in flavor yet impeccably balanced, this Champagne delivers both glamour and substance, earning its place as one of the most iconic and widely loved rosé Champagnes in the world.

One of the true benchmarks for rosé Champagne, defined by precision, elegance, and consistency. Fresh strawberry, raspberry, and red currant glide across a fine, silky mousse, lifted by bright citrus zest and a subtle chalky freshness. The palate is delicate yet persistent, with flavors that feel weightless but linger beautifully. Everything here is about balance — fruit without sweetness, richness without heaviness, and structure without sharpness. Effortlessly drinkable and unmistakably polished, this is a rosé Champagne that feels just as appropriate for celebration as it does at the table.
2022 Inama "Vigneti di Foscarino" Soave Classico

By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 2/4/2026 | Send Email
At this price, the 2022 Inama "Vigneti di Foscarino" Soave Classico is arguably the smartest white wine purchase you can make right now. This isn't just a crisp Italian white; it is a "Grand Cru" level wine from one of the most prestigious volcanic sites in the Veneto, offered at an everyday price.
Inama is famous for redefining Soave, proving that the Garganega grape can produce wines of profound depth and longevity when treated with respect. The "Foscarino" vineyard is the heart of this philosophy: a historic site with old vines rooted in pure basaltic lava.
The 2022 vintage is rich and expressive. The nose is complex and evolving, moving beyond simple fruit to offer layers of chamomile, wild field flowers, honeycomb, and distinct notes of toasted almond and flint.
On the palate, the wine separates itself from the crowd with its texture. It is creamy and enveloping—thanks to fermentation in used barriques—but remains incredibly precise, driven by a saline, volcanic minerality that keeps the finish long and savory.
2020 Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino

By: Orazio Campoli | Review Date: 2/4/2026 | Send Email
The 2020 Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino is the kind of wine that reminds you why we love Sangiovese from the south. Claudia Ferrero’s estate in Sant'Angelo in Colle is known for producing wines with soul and substance, and in the warm, generous 2020 vintage, she has crafted a Brunello that is open-armed and incredibly inviting.
While the 2019s are structural giants built for the cellar, the 2020 is all about immediate pleasure and charm. It smells like the Tuscan countryside in late summer.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and round. It is juicy, earthy, and satisfyingly rustic. This is the perfect Brunello to pop tonight with a hearty pasta or grilled lamb chops while you wait for your more austere vintages to mature. Honest, delicious, and full of heart.

The 2019 Ferrero Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a powerful testament to the greatness of the vintage and the specific warmth of the Pascena terroir. Claudia Ferrero works in the southern sector of Montalcino, near Sant'Angelo in Colle, and her wines are known for their honest, robust character and incredible generosity.
In a 5-star vintage like 2019, this Riserva shines with absolute confidence. It takes the natural richness of the southern exposure and frames it with the impeccable structure of the year. The nose is deep and brooding, offering layers of blackberry jam, cured tobacco, new leather, and dark chocolate, all lifted by a distinct balsamic freshness. A fantastic value for a Riserva from such a heralded year.

The 2024 Mastroberardino "Radici" Fiano d'Avellino is the undisputed benchmark for southern Italian whites. Produced by the legendary family that saved Campania's ancient grapes, this is Fiano at its most serious and structural.
The nose is a complex mix of pear, white peach, and the variety's signature notes of toasted hazelnut and smoke. On the palate, it offers a waxy, textured mouthfeel balanced by volcanic minerality and sharp acidity. It’s savory, saline, and incredibly persistent.
While delicious now for its freshness, this is a white wine built to age, capable of developing honeyed complexity over the next decade. A true classic.
