Seven percent red wine added to the blend to make the NV Champagne Brut Rosé, which is based on the 2020 harvest and is 45% Chardonnay, 25% Meunier, and the rest Pinot Noir, with about 45% reserve wine. A classic pink salmon hue, the nose is classic and pretty with notes of fresh peaches, raspberries, roses, and chalky earth. Medium-bodied and rounded, it’s approachable and fresh in style, with lovely purity and a pretty feel throughout. It’s delicious now but has the ability to age with ease over the coming 10 years. Disgorged in the first quarter of 2023, 4.7 grams per liter dosage (although interestingly, they are now including the total grams per liter, in this case 5.3 grams per liter in the final wine). (AF)
Sleek and minerally, this is satiny on the palate, with racy drive to the flavors of macerated raspberry, pomegranate puree, almond financier and pickled ginger. A zesty hint of blood orange granita lingers on the finish. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. (AN)
The brioche and cooked-apple and cream character really comes through here. Full-bodied and round with fine bubbles. Flavorful and intense. Vivid, bread dough finish. This is four years on lees. 55% Chardonnay and the rest Pinot.
Michel Arnould, based in the Grand Cru village of Verzenay, is some of my favorite grower-producer champagne. Arnould's sub-$40 champagnes, the Observation & Acuite, are easily two of the best champagne deals in the store. The elegance and finesse of the Arnould champagnes rivals those of the big houses. The Observation Grand Cru Verzenay Brut Champagne, 75% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, is all from Verzenay, which sits at the top of the horseshoe that is the Montage de Reims where the vineyards face north - away from the sun. This produces crisp cool climate sparklers that are lean, mean, and beautiful. On the nose, it can only be champagne -- minerality, citrus, fresh bread, saline, smoke, and light red fruit. On the palate, precise, structured, with notes of hazelnut, lemon-lime, baked green apple, nectarine, fresh sourdough, and vanilla (barrel) with a surprisingly rich, creamy custard-like finish. Another fantastic expression from the 13th generation (starting in the 17th century) of Arnould growers, Michel and his son Patrick, along with son-in-law Thierry, and producers (bottling since the early 1900s, established as Champagne Michel Arnould & Fils in the 1960s).
The NV Bouzy Grand Cru Les Parcelles XIII is based on the 2013 vintage plus roughly 40% of reserve wines from 2012, 2011 and 2010. The assemblage consists of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, fermented in stainless steel and in a few demi-muids. The nicely colored wine (white gold with a pink reflection due to the late harvest and no fining agents) offers a very clear, precise and delicate bouquet of cherries and red berries. Pure and filigreed on the palate, this is a beautifully pure, clear, fresh and delicate blend that reveals impressive mineral structure and length. Simply fascinating. (SR)
Tasted from a half bottle, the rich and complex flavors of Brut La Française show just that extra touch of maturity. The wine has peach and almond flavors that contrast well with the taut, nervy edge. It’s full in the mouth and ripe, and works well both as an apéritif and a food Champagne.
Plenty of pinot character with strawberry and dried apple and some flint and matchstick, as well as stone. It’s medium- to full-bodied with freshness, a creamy texture and a long, delicious finish. 40% pinot meunier, 30% chardonnay and 30% pinot noir. 28% 2019 and the rest reserve wine going back to 2006.
Pierre Gimonnet & Fils is a family-run grower-producer based in Cuis, a Premier Cru village in Champagne’s Côte des Blancs. Made entirely from Chardonnay, this Blanc de Blancs connects the house’s long association with the grape to its home village, presented here in a convenient 375ml half-bottle.
Half bottles!
Brimming with pear, white peach and citrus fruit this enchanting Blanc de Blancs is so bright and succulent and is very hard to resist. I love the very long, silky and clean finish which has beautiful balance. Really fine mousse. Drink now. (SP)
Rose gold color. Bright hard apple cider nose. Great depth and some chalkiness. Dances on the palate. Amazing for the price!
From the official Angustura website: "Made with the same original secret recipe since 1824, the world famous Angostura aromatic bitters remains the quintessential and definitive ingredient for classic and contemporary cocktails. Its versatility, however, stretches way beyond the bar counter as it serves as a unique flavour enhancer with the ability to marry flavours in the preparation of all food dishes. Angostura aromatic bitters also adds its unmistakable flavour and aroma to 'soft' beverages and desserts."
Tasted in magnum, the nose offers yeasty bready aromas topped with fresh citrus, hints of stone fruit and strawberry tart. A palate of fresh croissants, red berries, green apple and lively lemon citrus, with the larger format lending lovely creaminess to the bright finish. Veuve Clicquot's iconic Yellow Label is a blend of 30% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Meunier and 50% Pinot Noir, which provides the cuvée's signature structure. Up to 45% reserve wines in the blend ensure consistency. (JS)
Founded in Reims in 1776, Louis Roederer remains an independent, family-owned Champagne house. Collection 247 marks the house’s 247th blend and is centered on the 2022 harvest, complemented by wines from its perpetual reserve and oak-aged reserve wines. This Brut Champagne is presented in a convenient 375ml half-bottle.
Half bottles of organic, non alcoholic sparkling wine from France made by the Taittinger family!.
Extremely fresh and floral with sliced apples, stones and some white peach. Bread dough, too. Fine bead. Medium to full body with crisp acidity and a steely finish. Hints of phenolics provide a fine texture. Vibrant acidity. About 15% reserve wine (mostly chardonnay) in this, from five vintages. 2.5 years on the lees. 60% chardonnay and 40% pinot noir.
60% Pinot Noir, 25% Chardonnay, 15% Meunier sourced from more than 300 crus, including 85% grands and premiers crus; 15% fermented in old oak barrels. The complexity and richness of Special Cuvée is unparalleled among the entry non-vintage blends of every Champagne house, short of ascending to the mesosphere of Krug. Its grand recipe explains why, built on incredible depth of 50%-60% reserves. Triumphant complexity is a given at Bollinger, but it’s the dynamic freshness and vitality that really set it apart as one of the most affordable Champagne benchmarks. (TS)
If you are watching your calories. Simply the best tonic on the market!
A rich year with low yields and a perfectly warm summer. The nose is all chalky, oyster shell and dried berries. Plenty of powerful wild red fruit. Super focused with a very crisp, linear, acid drive. Pink grapefruit to close. A great vintage for this rosé. Drink now or hold – this has the structure to support some ageing.
Brothers Fernand and Gaston Chiquet created the Champagne house Chiquet Brothers back in 1919. The pair were pioneers in the region, and according to the winery, they were the very first winemakers to keep their own grapes, and to vinify them into wines that they would sell. According to wine writer Peter Liem: "This is one of the finest grower estates in the Grande Vallée de lar Marne. Chiquet's wines combine a generous depth of fruit with a pronounced character of place—if you want to know what the wines of the Grande Vallée should feel like, these are an excellent introduction. Chiquet's wines generally show well young, thanks to the forward fruitiness of their Marne terroirs. Yet with their balance and depth they can also age extremely well, even the non-vintage Brut Tradition, as I've seen from several old examples dating all the way back to 1964." The Tradition Brut is a classic cuvée of 40% Pinot Meunier, 35% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Noir.
This tonic is expensive, but it is worth it if you love your gin. I find it to be less sweet and have a high quality quinine flavor than the other tonics available. I have had it with Anchor Junipero, Hendrick's, Royal Dock Navy Strength Gin, Faultline, St. George Terroir Mt. Tam Gin and many others, but my favorite with the Fever Tree is the Cadenhead's Old Raj Gin. This combination, with a nice slice of lime and a couple of giant ice cubes is the most elegant gin and tonic that I have ever had!
Half bottles of organic, non alcoholic rosé sparkling wine from France made by the Taittinger family!
Domaine Jean Vesselle crafts what the French call “grower” Champagne; they are a récoltant-manipulant house, meaning they grow their own grapes and make their own wine, entirely on site, bringing the ultimate in Champagne flavor and character to every bottle. From the importer: "For nearly 300 years, the Vesselle family has been tilling the chalky soils of Bouzy and cultivating some of the village’s best-placed Pinot Noir vines. The family’s collection of top terroirs and generations of leadership in championing Pinot Noir is what makes wines from Domaine Jean Vesselle such eloquent examples of Blanc de Noirs Champagnes. Wines here combine a classic Champagne elegance with the signature Bouzy power, especially in wines such as ‘Oeil de Perdrix.’ This unique rose de saignée is a taste of Champagne history, a style of wine long forgotten before winemakers Delphine and David Vesselle—to honor the traditions of their Champagne-making forefathers—brought it back with great success. The family owns one of Champagne’s smallest walled vineyards, the ‘Petit Clos.’ Located just outside the Vesselle home in Bouzy, ‘Petit Clos’ is the pinnacle of the powerful yet elegant Bouzy style, pure grand cru Pinot Noir fermented in barrels made from oak trees from the Champagne region, and aged for a decade in bottle."
This all-estate Champagne is aged for six years on the lees and is composed of 70% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay, and 15% Meunier. This wine has very fine, brioche-like aromas from extended sur lie aging as well as a savory cherry note from the high-quality Pinot Noir. It is very rich and long in the mouth, with a fine bead, again from long aging.
Fever-Tree's soda water is made with natural spring water and is super effervescent: exactly what you need to bring out the finer points of a good whisky. This easygoing mixer is great in cocktails and mocktails alike. Fever-Tree explains their history: "Following a 'tonic tasting' in 2000 to find the best on the U.S. market, Charles Rolls—who built his reputation running Plymouth Gin—joined forces with luxury food marketer Tim Warrillow to analyze the composition of mixers. In 2004, they began creating mixers using natural and fresh ingredients. "Fever-Tree" refers to their first product launched to the UK, a Premium Indian Tonic Water, in early 2005. "Fever-Tree" is a colloquial name for the Cinchona Tree, where quinine, a key component for tonic, is found.
The Taittinger family has guided its Champagne house since Pierre Taittinger acquired the historic property in 1932. Prestige Rosé is produced using still red Pinot Noir in the blend, a traditional Champagne approach to rosé production. This 375ml half-bottle offers the house’s nonvintage rosé in a compact format.
Fantastic aroma of Mara des Bois strawberries. Very juicy with an explosion of strawberries and ripe nectarines. Stunning vitality due to the bright and fine mousse plus the lively acidity. Long and elegant finish that pulls you back for more. A cuvee of 60% pinot noir from Cumieres and 40% chardonnay from Chouilly. 8 g/l dosage. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (SP)
The varied soil types of clay, limestone and sand give this a complex palate. Earthy and delightful. Enjoy!
From a very difficult year, the 2017 Champagne Vintage Rose is co-fermented from a blend made at harvest time. It pours a pristine bright salmon color and shimmers in the glass, offering notes of peaches, fresh berries, white pepper, and Mirabel. The palate has surprisingly good tension and lovely focus. A superb and more gastronomic wine, it has a hint of warmth, but it is more the spice that comes through. Drink 2025-2045. (AF)
Liquid Alchemist non-alcoholic cocktail elixirs are made in small batches from natural ingredients, with no artificial flavors or colors. Founded in Los Angeles, CA in 2009 by career bartender Randy Tarlow.
The 2018 Champagne Vintage Brut Rosé is based largely on Pinot Noir from Cumières, with additional Pinot Noir from Mareuil sur Aÿ that brings more intensity and drive to balance the upfront fruit of Cumières. Composed of 60 percent Pinot Noir, it offers a chalky, lightly saline profile with notes of apricot, fresh strawberry, and blood orange. Medium-bodied, it has more structure than expected in the vintage and finishes clean and mineral. Drink 2025-2045. (AF)

Bring on the gin—or vodka, the better to enjoy the subtle essence of the noble cuke. Ingredients: Carbonated Spring Water, Fructose (Fruit Sugar), Acid, Citric Acid, Natural Cucumber Flavouring and Natural Lemon Flavouring with other Natural Flavourings including Natural Quinine.
Fever Tree makes all-natural, premium mixers--most famously tonic waters and ginger ale--that have taken the cocktail world by storm. According to the mixer specialists: "By blending the essential oils from handpicked English elderflowers with quinine of the highest quality from the 'fever trees' of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we have created a delicious, floral variation of our Indian tonic water."
A perennial favorite, the rosé does not disappoint on this go-round. Pretty raspberry and black cherry notes highlight the freshness and richness of the wine. Unbelievable quality at the price.

Founded in Reims in 1776, Louis Roederer remains an independent, family-owned Champagne house with an extensive estate-vineyard portfolio. Its vintage Brut Rosé combines Pinot Noir and Chardonnay through the house’s distinctive infusion approach. This 2019 release comes in a 375ml half bottle, a convenient format for two glasses or a smaller celebration.
According to the New York Times, Fever-Tree's tonic water is "a mixer to be taken seriously." Fever-Tree describes this lighter-style tonic: "Using the most authentic strain of quinine and the finest lemon oils from Sicily as well as thyme, geranium, rosemary and mandarin, we have created a delicious new taste experience. For a delicious and refreshing summer drink, serve with a premium vodka of your choice over plenty of ice. Add a sprig of lemon thyme to bring out the subtle flavors of the Mediterranean Tonic." Following a disappointing tasting in 2000 to find the best tonic on the U.S. market, Charles Rolls—who built his reputation running Plymouth Gin—joined forces with luxury food marketer Tim Warrillow to analyze the composition of mixers.
