Crystal-clear and pure. Nose is unabashedly smoky in the first nosings; aeration smoothes it out as fetching aromas of mint, harvested grain and grain husk assert themselves. On palate, the entry is intensely grainy, silky and off-dry; the midpalate offers moderate bite plus chewy tastes of cracked wheat and cocoa bean. Aftertaste is dry, cleansing and medium-long.

Best well chilled, this classic brand has a mild sweetness that hints at marshmallow and cocoa bean, plus flares of citrus peel, cassia bark and ginger on the clean finish. (KN)
The bouquet is subtle and alluring, with distant notes of buttered popcorn and escarole broth; aeration stimulates aromas of peanut butter, rye toast and damp cobblestone. Silky palate entry is slightly sweet, concentrated and grainy; at midpalate, the flavor turns drier, lightly spiced and almost fruity (as in dried fruit). Aftertaste is long and spicy. Well crafted and quality driven.

This awesome vodka is locally made in El Dorado Hills from 100% apples and cut with Sierra Nevada mountain water. It's naturally gluten-free, has no sugar added, and is double carbon filtered for an exceptionally round taste. Winner of Best in Class vodka from the SIP awards and California Craft Spirits Competition.
Distilled from grain and fruit—specifically, Bartlett pears—this complex vodka doesn't have the neutral profile some vodka drinkers expect. The warm scent suggests roasted almonds. On the palate, vanilla and almond intertwine with a mild sweetness that recalls agave, with a barely perceptible, mouthwatering salinity. The finish is malty and roasty. The overall effect is a vodka that ever-so-subtly winks at the whiskey bottle down the shelf. *Top 100 Spirits of 2016* (KN)

Cardrona Distillery produces The Reid in the Cardrona Valley between Wanaka and Queenstown on New Zealand’s South Island. Made from malted barley, this single malt vodka shares its core raw material with malt whisky while representing a different category of distilled spirit.
The name of this whisky has nothing to do with coffee—rather, it's named for a type of still invented by Aneas Coffey, which is used to make this golden spirit. It offers mild vanilla-pear aromatics and is relatively light and silky on the palate. Look for a light vanilla sweetness at first, which gives way to a rounded dark chocolate note and baking spice finish. Recommended for highballs and other mixed drinks. (KN)

Chopin Vodka, imported from Poland, is crafted from 100% hand-cultivated Stobrawa potatoes. It is four times distilled to create full-flavored, smooth and clean vodka. This family-owned distillery has operated since 1992, and produces exclusively small batch single-ingredient vodkas. While often compared to many of the other mass market brands, production is extremely small when compared to its rivals. This allows for incredibly high standard of quality. Do not miss this incredible potato vodka! From the Beverage Testing Institute: "93 points (exceptional). Subtle aromas of powdered potatoes, toasted Brazil nuts, and vanilla yogurt with a silky, off-dry light-to-medium body and a sweet whipped cream, nougat, and mossy riverstone accented finish. A refreshing, elegant vodka that will be great in artisan cocktails." (11/2011)
Svedka is one of the best values that money can buy! Svedka's secret is using three pounds of high quality wheat to produce each bottle. A five column distillation process lasting over 40 hours is used for purification. The outcome is so smooth that no customary charcoal filtration is required. The purest water available is used for the master blend. 93 points and a Best Buy: "shows a tightly knit set of characteristics that deserves applause," the Wine Enthusiast.
Suntory is the biggest name in Japanese whiskey, playing a pivotal, some might say definitive, role in establishing the category as a global market phenomenon. Indeed, many of the most sought-after, benchmark labels are distilled and bottled under the Suntory banner. So, it was only a matter of time before they threw their hat into the clear spirits game. Enter Haku, an ultra-premium vodka distilled from the finest white rice. From the producer: "HAKU Vodka, brought to life by the House of Suntory, is a Japanese premium craft vodka made from 100 percent Japanese white rice. Although the Japanese word "haku" literally means "white," the subtlety of the Japanese language often gives the characters several meanings. While "haku" is rooted in the word "hakumai," meaning white rice, the nuanced meaning can also be translated as "junpaku," which means an untainted brilliance and refers to HAKU's clear, clean, and luminous flavor. HAKU begins its distillation process in Kagoshima, Kyushu, a region well-known for rice spirit making. The process includes a meticulous mill and polish, where 100 percent Japanese white rice is fermented to create a mash. The mash is distilled through pot stills to create a rice spirit, and then distilled a second time through two different processes to create its uniquely flavored liquid. This liquid is then blended and filtered through bamboo charcoal in Osaka, Japan."
For those seeking absolute neutrality in a vodka, this comes as close as you can get. Look for a silky feel and the barest gossamer almond note on the palate, finishing with cinnamon flicker. (KN)
Overall, this is a clean and neutral vodka that's smooth and nicely balanced. It's muscular enough for chilled martinis, but is laced with subtle, delicate notes of candied lemon peel and coriander. Distilled from grain and “filtered through ancient arctic lava rocks." (KN)
96-100 points Wine Enthusiast: "Opening nosing passes detect subtle toasty, charcoal aromas. Entry is off-dry to sweet and properly oily; sweet graininess dominates the midpalate. Aftertaste is long, bittersweet and delectably oily. Fashioned more in the plump, sweet style of Holland than eastern Europe (thick, hearty) or Scandinavia (light, flowery)." (04/03)

Just $25 bucks for the 900ml bottle. This vodka is distilled from rice in Japan and is super clean. It's a great all around option for quality, inexpensive mixing.
The new Kastra Elion is as delicious as it is unusual. This ultra high quality vodka is anything, but boring. The process begins with hand picked olives from the Nafpaktos region of Greece. These ripe ultra high quality olives are combined with high quality grains and natural mineral rich water from Mount Taygetos. Left to ferment and subsequently distilled and bottled with no additives or adulterants of any kind, it's a full bodied and rich experience that's made from olives, but by no means is FLAVORED with olives. It nonetheless has the complex rich aroma of subtle earthy green olives, citrus oils and buttery grain. Textural and rich, the mouthfeel is where the rich oiliness of the olives is truly on display. This family owned artisinal operation is named for the ancient castle that overlooks the family's olive groves and is the inspiration for this bold and unusual addition to this somewhat predictable category. Packaged in a gorgeous porcelaine vessel, the premium natural of the spirit is obvious inside and out. A truly unique and welcome addition to the category.
While you may think of this as flavored vodka, this is really just orange gin. At least, as far as the process is concerned. Lance and Dave made this incredibly beautiful spirit through multiple macerations of separate varietals of orange, along with individual distillations. The amount of skill and blending is paramount to the finest of ginmakers. It's just that they didn't use juniper. Don't let the vodka moniker make you think this isn't something great. It is.
A neutral scent with a barely-there minty waft introduces this vodka. That faint herbaceousness is echoed on the palate, along with mild lime peel, cubeb pepper, and pink peppercorn. A teasing savory note suggests mixing into dirty martinis. -KN
Founded in Osaka in 1899, Suntory helped shape Japan’s modern drinks industry. Haku—whose name means “white” in Japanese—is the company’s Japanese vodka label. This Honshu-produced expression features yuzu, an East Asian citrus with a long culinary tradition in Japan, linking a familiar Japanese ingredient with Suntory’s century-plus heritage.
The base spirit for this flavored vodka is distilled completely from rice, and then the producer macerates the spirit with yuzu pulp and peels before being pot-distilled and then rested a further week on the peels. The nose is in a beautiful battle with itself, trying to show off soft and beautiful yuzu florality while also offering a punch of lemon-lime citrus. The palate has a delightful weight, making it eminently sippable, with an intense punch of yuzu shining through while the mouthfeel draws you in, the initial stage of the finish is herbal but ultimately it settles down tasting like tropical yuzu candy, despite no sweetness in the product. I've made a few drinks with this and the yuzu character always shines through beautifully, making the cocktails distinctive and that much more appealing. Truly a winner of a product.

Sometimes vodka doesn't need an elaborate origin story or a dozen rounds through a still to make its case. Chill Vodka was born in San Diego with the exceedingly reasonable goal of making an excellent, affordable house pour that doesn't take itself too seriously. Produced from 100% organic Midwest corn, predominantly sourced from Minnesota, and distilled in California, this clean, straightforward vodka is made with just two ingredients and is naturally gluten-free. It's also kosher and certified organic by QAI and OTCO. The corn base gives it a soft, gently rounded texture with just enough subtle sweetness to keep things interesting, while the finish stays clean and neutral enough for essentially anything you want to throw at it. The brand calls itself the "Official Sponsor of Day Drinking," which tells you almost everything you need to know about the attitude here. Chill isn't trying to reinvent vodka. It's simply well-made, organic, versatile and exceptionally easy to drink, whether you're building Bloody Marys at brunch, pouring highballs by the pool or just looking for a reliable bottle to keep in the freezer.
*Superb/Highly Recommended; One of Top 50 Spirits of 2009* Smells nicely of sweet grass, paraffin, acetate and wheat crackers; aeration bolsters the aromatic impressions of the first round and adds a subtle spiciness (nutmeg?) that complements the grassy quality. Palate entry teems with zesty, spicy, medicinal and grassy flavors; midpalate flavors come off chocolaty and milky, with disparate background tastes of egg cream and green pepper.
Distilled from whey, this vodka has a faintly earthy aroma and neutral, slightly sweet palate that finishes with a citrusy lilt. It’s more about texture than flavor: markedly plush and rounded, ideal for a head start on White Russians and other creamy cocktails. (KN)

Good Vodka is a bold new take on what vodka can be. Distilled in the U.S. from rescued coffee fruit grown on small organic farms in Colombia, it turns a major waste stream into something smooth, rich, and strikingly original. For every pound of beans harvested, five pounds of fruit pulp are discarded. Good Vodka intercepts that fruit before it goes to waste and transforms it into a clean, delcious spirit with a purpose. The result is a carbon-negative, water-conscious vodka that uses just one percent of the water required for traditional corn or potato vodkas. The aroma opens with cocoa and tropical fruit. The palate is silky and full, with a spicy, earthy depth and a clean finish kissed with white pepper and dark fruit. With no added sugar, glycerin, or flavorings, it is a pure expression of its unique origin. Kosher and gluten free, this is a vodka for people who care about how their spirits are made and where they come from. Equally usable simply over ice or in an espresso martini, it is one of the few vodkas that drinks beautifully on its own.

Caledonia was founded in 2012 by Todd Hardie who had previously spent four decades as a beekeeper. Distillery tasting note: "Our relationship with the land and honey bees inspired and gave birth to this vodka. The soul of a beekeeper is filled with the rhythms that flow through the seasons, reflecting the changes in the flowers, rains, sun and all the forces that are a part of this beautiful mystery. Barr Hill Vodka is crafted from honey at our micro-distillery on the banks of the Lamoille River in Caledonia Country of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Honey is carefully fermented in small batches, then gently distilled in our custom stills. The spirit which emerges reflects the essence of the soil and flowers visited by the bees."

Aroma is dry, clean, and grainy, with background notes of parchment and litchi; later passes offer semisweet, mildly smoky/ashy scents of charcoal and smoldering embers. Palate entry is firm, moderately oily, bittersweet; at midpalate concentrated and spicy grain flavors mingle adroitly with the smoky, sap- and resin-sweet birch-charcoal filtering influence. Concludes sweetly and almost candy-like.
Started by a couple of music industry vets and neighbors in the old Laurel Canyon neighborhood of Hollywood, Laurel Canyon Spirits is starting to really make some noise. Their White Hjerte vodka is triple filtered, column distilled 80-proof corn-based spirit distilled from 100% California grain that was awarded a Double Gold medal from the 2020 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Tasting Notes from the brand, "Soft scents of vanilla and red berries, and a light-hearted, creamy palate show its noteworthy character. White pepper marks an underscore of crème fraiche and blueberry. Finishes with a zing. " 92 Points - The Tasting Panel & The Somm Journal
Vodka is one of those categories where it’s very easy to hide mediocre distillate behind neutrality, but every once in a while something comes along that reminds you just how compelling the category can be when real attention is paid to raw materials and process. Helix is exactly that kind of bottle. Built from seven-times-distilled winter wheat grown in the Champagne region of France and then proofed with pristine Icelandic glacial water, it represents a thoughtful marriage of two very different terroirs working in harmony. What makes Helix stand out is not just the sourcing, but the balance it achieves. The French wheat distillate brings a soft, subtly sweet core, while the Icelandic water, naturally low in minerals and slightly alkaline, sharpens and refines the texture, resulting in a vodka that feels both creamy and precise at the same time. Carbon filtration keeps everything clean without stripping away character, and at 40% ABV it lands exactly where it should: structured enough for serious cocktails, but polished enough to sip. There’s a surprising amount of nuance here for the price point, with gentle citrus, faint confectionery notes, and a rounded, almost velvety mouthfeel that carries through to a clean, focused finish. It’s the kind of vodka that works just as well elevating a simple Martini as it does disappearing seamlessly into more complex drinks.

NFT Vodka, sure why not? I'll be super honest right now, I'm not really sure what an NFT is, like gun to the head I'd just say like "online pictures people liked a few years ago" or something like that. Ignorance is bliss, however, and I am actually happy about this vodka. It's good, it's just a really solidly tasty corn based vodka. Even at room temperature it's pretty smooth, it has a kind of roundness in the mouth and gives off some slight hints about the grain behind the spirit, the impression of sweetness on the front and there's something in the nose that just has a slightly corn smell to me, but I could just be imagining it since I know what it's made out of. That's the problem with tasting notes sometimes. All in all, it's worth picking up if you're looking for a nice bottle of American made vodka, made with American grain. It's also, quite legitimately, a decent gift or purchase for people who do know what an NFT is and will explain it to you. In detail. For a while.
