Bid on this bottle of 1999 Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru (95ST, 93RP, 91BH). Int'l Wine Cellar: "Medium ruby. Knockout grand cru aromas of macerated berries, licorice, jasmine, animal fur, tar and exotic baking spices; a great example of Bonnes-Mares, showing both the floral and animal aspects of the cru. Fills the mouth with sappy sucrosity, lifted by a strong floral element. A wine of great energy, finishing with firm but sweet tannins. Makes a strong argument that great grand cru Burgundy can be made at a yield of 42 hectoliters per hectare. (ST)" (03/2002)

Drouhin's 2022 Amoureuses is a magical wine, all perfume and silk. There are lovely aromas of ripe black cherries with a floral note and hints of violets and cardamon. The texture is dense and lush without being heavy, and the fresh acid balance carries the wine to a lingering finish. The grapes come from four domaine-owned parcels of old vines and are fermented as 40% whole clusters before ageing in primarily used casks. The result will open in three to five years and drink for 20 or more afterwards. (Drink between 2028-2055)
Bid on this bottle of 1993 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (97BH, 97VN, 94RP, 93WS). Vinous: "The 1993 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru was a real surprise given that I have meted out criticism for the wines from this era. It has a mesmerizing nose with wild strawberry, raspberry and rose petal scents that feel youthful and exuberant. The palate is fleshy and beautifully balanced, supple and has delightful, seductive rondeur. It crescendos towards the finish that is armed with killer delineation, completing perhaps the best Musigny that de Vogüé oversaw that decade. (NM)" (03/2023)

Bid on this bottle of 1993 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Amoureuses" (96DC, 94VN, 94WS, 92BH). Decanter: "Produced from the domaine's half-hectare in Amoureuses, most of which is located in the southern edge of the appellation, nestled next to Musigny. It seems that extraction in the '90s used more punching down than is the case today, but the winemaker from 1985 to 2020 was Francois MIllet. This seems to me a bit more reserved than modern vintages of Amoureuses, with a correct plummy fruit and lovely nuance from notes of liquorice, smoke, gunflint, and cedar. The wine still shows a youthful side but was developing nicely and should continue to do so for some time. (CC)" (12/2021)

This incomparable wine has great complexity and layers of flavours, with elegant cherry and blackberry fruit aromas, cedar, spice and spectacular depth. Despite the heat of the year, a marvellous freshness here brings energy to the wine and works well with the grippy tannins. The grapes come from two domaine-owned parcels that total 0.68 hectares. Both are located in Grand Musigny near the northern end of the appellation. The grapes are partially destemmed and gently fermented to produce this quintessential Musigny that will be accessible reasonably soon for a wine of this quality yet will age effortlessly for decades. (Drink between 2030-2065)

Arnoux-Lachaux has been in Vosne-Romanée since 1858, when Charles Arnoux and Renée Salbreux put two village families together. Robert Arnoux took over in 1957, started estate bottling, and spent four decades adding parcels, including the 0.35 hectares of Romanée-Saint-Vivant he bought in 1984. His son-in-law Pascal Lachaux worked beside him from 1987 until Robert’s death in 1995 and ran the domaine with Florence Arnoux afterward, renaming it Arnoux-Lachaux with the 2007 vintage. The reason the wines are talked about the way they are now is Charles Lachaux, the eldest of their three sons, who joined in 2011, made his first wine in 2012 and has run both vineyards and cellar since 2015. He raised the trellising to about 1.7 meters, stopped leaf-pulling and shoot-trimming, converted to certified biodynamics with grass cover and sheep grazing, gave up ploughing in 2020, and moved to whole-cluster fermentation across the range with short, gentle macerations. Since 2022 some of the wine is raised in sandstone amphorae rather than barrels. The 14.5 hectares cover 15 appellations, including Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Échezeaux, Clos de Vougeot and Latricières-Chambertin, with Vosne premier crus Suchots, Chaumes and Reignots and a run of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Charles has said the changes took about three years to show in the glass, and his own word for the result is precision.

Philippe Drouhin has 0.23 hectares of vines in Bonnes Mares in a well-situated plot in the centre of the vineyard that delivered a delicious wine in 2022 with more shoulders and more weight than most of the wines in the cellar. The fruit aromas are darker - blackberry and plum - and there are hints of earth and smoke. The grapes are fermented as 30% whole clusters before ageing in large casks, primarily used. Although the wine is somewhat closed, it will open for five to seven years and drink over the next 20 or more. (Drink between 2025-2050)
Bid on this bottle of 1990 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes (96RP). Wine Advocate: "The Bordeaux-like, saturated dense ruby/purple color is followed by a tight-fisted nose and flavors of black fruits, underbrush, minerals, smoke, and new oak. Although extremely concentrated, the wine is broodingly backward, and not fun to drink … yet. This loaded effort should prove to be one of the longest-lived red Burgundies made in the last 20 years. Singing with Bonnes-Mares typicity on the nose, this also has gracious waves of whole cluster aromatics. The combination soars with blackberry preserves, forest floor and spearmint. The freshness is impressive, giving this full-bodied wine ample vitality for the long haul, between the mouthwatering acidity and lightly crusty tannins. Coming exclusively from the red clay sector, there is no need to rush this. Give it at least seven to eight years.

This silky, classic Chambolle features bright pomegranate and cherry fruit, scented with violets and peony and a hint of liquorice. It is surprisingly accessible out of barrel but does not lack depth or concentration. A bright, lively acidity keeps this vibrant, but there is nothing shrill. The grapes come from 90-year-old vines planted high on the slope above Bonnes-Mares, next to the premier cru portion of the same vineyard owned by Ghislaine Barthod. The use of whole clusters and new casks are restrained, allowing the fruit to express itself fully and deliciously.(CC)
The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses (Domaine Louis Jadot) is the most aromatic wine in the range, bursting with notes of rose petals, orange zest, musky spices and sweet red berries, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and perfumed palate that's satiny and saline. Winemaker Frédéric Barnier and his team have once again delivered a strong portfolio chez Jadot. Barnier stressed the importance of sorting and of vigilance during élevage, in particular where acid rot made an appearance, and he didn't hesitate to perform a saignée for cuvées where yields were high. As I've written before, in the cellar, foudres and 500-liter barrels now complement classic 228-liter pièces, a further evolution adapting to warmer, riper vintages. What's more, barrels are now used four rather than three times, meaning the percentage of new oak overall has fallen. A cold room also helps chill down any fruit that's too warm when it enters the winery, something especially important during the warm 2023 harvest. This vintage also marks the third vintage of organic conversion for the Domaine Louis Jadot and the Domaine Gagey.(WK)

A greater depth of ruby with more evident concentration on the nose. Joyous red berries, correct oak and just enough lift from the small amount of whole bunch. We retasted when Thomas realised he had put too much new oak in the sample. Now with more tension and definition.
Pre-Arrival
This red is awash in pure cherry, blackberry and black currant fruit flavors allied to a firm structure. Violet, mineral and sweet spice notes add depth, while vibrant acidity keeps everything focused and long. Offers great balance and an aftertaste that leaves an impression of ripe fruit. Best from 2029 through 2050.

Mid purple in colour. A touch of oak on the nose, with some fruit concentration beneath but it is discreet. Darker berries show through. On the palate the fruit starts fresh and strict, then blossoms. Darker notes to the strawberry, a mineral undertow, refined tannins, less wild than Bonnes Mares can be, yet reading just as it should. White soil to the fore perhaps but both vying for attention. Drink from 2031-2038. Tasted Nov 2025.

Imperial purple in colour. The voluptuous style of this great vineyard does become apparent on the nose. It does retain a stricter sense of definition and there are some tannins at the back, so we are not completely submerged in succulence. This clearly needs a lot more elevage which of course it will get. An ideal fruit acid balance, and naturally fine persistence.

Structured and substantial; there is a black plum and mulberry fruit, accented with notes of smoke, fresh saddle leather, earth and game. The texture is super-concentrated, with firm, grippy tannins, massive extract, and more than enough freshness to carry this to a superbly long finish. The grapes are from a parcel of 1.64ha on the Morey side of the appellation; the oldest vines were planted just after the Second World War, the youngest being 40 years old. This is top-flight wine.(CC)
A little more purple in the colour. More generosity of course in the bouquet as well. Still all red fruit but a slightly darker note to it. Correctly oaked, growing subtly in stature as the wine progresses across the palate. Refined tannins and considerable length. You see the qualities afterwards rather than during. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Nov 2025.

Medium to seep ruby purple. The nose is of the highest class, and the sensuality of the palate also, all in an exquisite red fruit, hard to pick out one. The stems give a vivacity to the finish, where then fruit continues unabated. The words are everyday, the wine is not. You need to go after it says Bruno. Effortless. Delicacy with tensile strength.

A glowing ruby purple, very stylish. A thick coat of velvet covers entirely red fruit. There is a vast wealth of mid to dark red fruit on the palate, in a different league as usual. This part of Combe d’Orveaux is certainly half way to grand cru. The tannins entirely integrated.

Fine bright glowing purple. The nose is exceptionally classy, and has avoided the heat of the year. Perfectly juicy, even some spice, but not heat. There is a gorgeous sweet density of intense roses with a mix of raspberry and strawberry, sweet cherry too, really classy. Fine long finish with perfectly integrated tannins and acidity.

Mixed vine ages grown on white oolite with rocky Comblanchien outcrops. Fault lines throughout with crystalline calcite deposits which mean that his plough shines like a jewel at the end of the day’s work in Combe d’Orveau! Rich deep and even purple. A complex and fascinating nose, as much mineral as fruit forward. Excellent backbone with a very long finish, a striking mix of red and little black fruits. One for the long term.

Although this has excellent ripeness, it remains cool with floral delicacy. Focused with a core of velvety tannins on the sleek, medium-bodied palate. The long finish has a touch of licorice. From a site just above the grand cru Bonnes-Mares.

9 barrels of which 3 are new. Grown on a white oolitic soil with calcite crystals. Fine brisk pink purple, with beautiful elegance to the nose. Sublime deep sweet red fruit with rose petals, showing the oak a touch more. Really classy, mouth-filling wine with a long red fruit finish.

This release from de Vogüé would be delicious in any vintage, in 2024 it is astounding. There is impressive concentration to the ripe cherry and plum fruit aromas with an edge of peony and pepper. The texture is tannic and firm – the solid nature of the wine in such an aqueous vintage is remarkable. One imagines it is down to the effect of low yields, as well as to the inclusion of 15%-20% grapes from the premiers crus of Baudes and Fuées.(CC)
Note: from a .20 ha parcel A very fresh and exuberantly floral nose is comprised by airy red pinot fruit, exotic tea and spice nuances. The energetic and gorgeously textured super-sleek middleweight flavors possess a borderline aggressive minerality on the highly complex, balanced and strikingly persistent finish. This isn't especially concentrated and it could use better depth but the overall impression is pure lace and grace. This is stunning and a wine that should only become more so as it ages.*Burghound Don't Miss Outstanding!*

This also offers a noticeable step up in elegance with its pretty mix of red currant, plum, dark cherry and pretty spice wisps. I very much like the texture of the middle weight flavors that possess both good density and minerality that become more apparent as the lingering and youthfully austere finish sits on the palate. Lovely and very Chambollesque. *Burghound Outstanding!*
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2021 Domaine Comte de Vogüé Musigny Grand Cru Vieilles Vignes. The tasting note reads: "97 points John Gilman: 'The 2021 Musigny 'Vieilles Vignes' from Domaine de Comte de Georges de Vogüé is a brilliant wine in the making. The bouquet soars from the glass in a blaze of red and black cherries, sweet stem tones, gamebird, iron, mustard seed, woodsmoke, a beautiful base of limestone minerality and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and vibrant, with a great core of fruit, stunning soil inflection, ripe, suave tannins and impeccable balance on the long, focused and beautifully complex finish. This is a great vintage of Musigny in the making. 2035- 2100. ' (01/2023) 95-97 points Jasper Morris: 'Three tanks were made, in order of picking, then assembled as there is no terroir logic to them, though this has changed for 2022. A fine bright and reasonably deep purple. Classy with just a touch of pepper."

The 2015 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru came across subtly on the nose compared to the les Amoureuses and required more patience when tasted from barrel. It is not a flamboyant or ostentatious Bonnes-Mares, prioritizing precision and classicism, not to imply that it shortchanges you on the intensity ones expects from this vineyard. The palate is fresh from the start: a wonderful structure and especially for Bonnes-Mares, outstanding mineralité in situ and very tensile with so much energy from the blueberry and blackberry fruit that you can feel this wine two minutes later. Bridled with impressive grip and structure, this is a bona fide grand vin.(NM)

Mugnier's 2015 Chambolle-Musigny Village is beautiful, wafting from the glass with a pretty nose of raspberry, strawberry, sweet spices and peony. On the palate, the wine is bright, weightless and medium to full-bodied, with satiny tannins, fruit of crystalline purity and a long, sappy finish. This is an exquisitely transparent Chambolle Village that exemplifies Mugnier's ethereal style. Produced from 1.3-hectares of vines in the lieux-dits of La Combe d'Orvaux and 1er Cru Les Plantes. Here too there is a top note of pomegranate to the even spicier nose of violet, plum liqueur and soft floral influences. The charming, round and plump medium-bodied flavors possess a bit better depth and excellent persistence on the mildly warm mineral-driven finish. This is really quite impressive and built to reward 12 to 15 years of cellaring.
