The 2013 Reserva Viña Tondonia is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha and 10% Graciano and Mazuelo, grown in the calcareous soils of the Tondonia meander in Rioja Alta. Aged extensively in American oak, it offers restrained black fruit, wild herbs, balsamic hints and sweet spices with gentle cedar and vanilla notes. Medium-bodied with chalky grip and a layered, tertiary finish, this is a benchmark classic—refined, enduring and unmistakably Tondonia. (JH)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2013 Peter Michael "La Carrière" Knights Valley Chardonnay (98RP, 96JS, 93WS). Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Chardonnay La Carrière is unbelievable. Production was almost 900 cases less than in 2014, and you can see it in the concentration of honeysuckle, orange marmalade, white currant, white peach and mineral notes. (RP)" (12/2015)

Bid on this magnum of 2013 Philip Togni "Estate" Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (100DC, 100VN, 97TWI, 96RP, 95WS). Vinous: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is just as magnificent as it has always been. A wine of stature and pedigree, the 2013 possesses stunning vertical intensity right out of the gate. Dark fruit, lavender, graphite, coffee and dried herbs are some of the notes that infuse this vivid Cabernet with striking complexity. But it is the sum of the parts that impresses most. Togni's 2013 cements its place as one of the epic wines of this legendary harvest. (AG)" (05/2024)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Domaine Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru "Monts Mains" (90BH). Burghound: "From relatively young vines based in Montmains proper. Here the expressive nose mixes primarily floral notes with hints of citrus, pear, sea breeze and quinine along with a nuance of exotic fruit. There is a relatively soft, indeed even tender mouth feel to the lightly mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that display a touch of salinity on the delicious if slightly warm finish. This too should be approachable young if desired."

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Cliff Lede "Poetry" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP, 94JS, 93VN). Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry reveals a rather inky, bluish/purple color. A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, this wine is super-youthful and still tastes somewhat like a barrel sample. It’s bursting with upside potential. Inky purple to the rim, with notes of crème de cassis, black cherry liqueur, licorice, spice and a touch of vanilla, this is a full-bodied, concentrated and an utterly profound wine that may represent the greatest wine that Cliff Lede has made to date. Forget it for another 5-6 years and drink it over the following 30 years. (RP)" (12/2015)

No other bottler is offering such a diverse selection of high quality casks at such compelling prices. The Thompson brothers entered the whisky business through pure passion, and that passion has opened doors within the complex and often opaque world of cask trading. As the exclusive US source for Thompson Bros whiskies, we are able to translate those relationships into remarkable opportunities for our customers. Hand selected by the team at Dornoch Distillery and approved by our own buying team, this exceptional cask underscores the uncompromising commitment to quality that has become synonymous with the Thompson Bros name. If you know anything about K&L, it is that we are enormous fans of independent bottlings from Bowmore Distillery. There is a tension and soul to the casks Bowmore releases to outside bottlers that is almost never exhibited in the official range. Perhaps the house style is sometimes shaped toward broad appeal, but no other Islay distillery offers such a wide spectrum of personality in its independent releases. Founded in 1779, Bowmore is a cornerstone of Islay’s whisky tradition. Situated on the shores of Loch Indaal, it maintains its own floor maltings and produces a spirit defined by a distinctive balance of coastal smoke and orchard fruit. This gorgeous, underpriced barrel was filled into refill bourbon on April 15, 2013 and bottled in March 2026. Casks like this serve as a timely reminder that greatness does not need to shout when it can smolder.
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Domaine Fourrier Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru "Vieille Vigne" (95JG, (92-94RP)). John Gilman: "The 2013 Latricières-Chambertin from Jean-Marie Fourrier is a brilliant example of this great terroir. The pure and classic bouquet delivers scents of dark berries, black cherries, raw cocoa, grilled meats, espresso, black soil tones, vanillin oak and a gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, complex and shows off outstanding mid-palate depth, with great soil signature, exemplary focus and grip, ripe tannins and a very, very long, soil-driven and complex finish. A great bottle of Latricières. 95+" (11/2014)

Of the 99-point Alpine Hillside, John Gilman writes: “The bouquet is pure, complex and absolutely stunning in its youthful magnificence, offering up notes of black cherries, black plums, a stunning base of minerality, a potpourri of botanicals, a touch of gamebird, graphite... On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and light on its feet, with a sappy core, great transparency, moderate, beautifully integrated tannins and a long, tangy and still fairly youthful finish... Bid on this magnum of 2013 Morlet "Force de la Nature" Napa Valley Cabernet Franc (1.5L) (100RP). Wine Advocate: "Luc Morlet's three-digit wine is the 2013 Cabernet Franc Force de la Nature, 100% Cabernet Franc from the incredible Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard. This is an ethereal wine that goes beyond just being majestic. Aged in 100% new Darnajou oak, the wine offers a flowery, blueberry and blackberry-scented nose along with forest floor, some sweet, subtle toast and lead pencil shavings. Remarkably rich, full-bodied, but light on its feet and on the palate, the wine builds incrementally to a majestic, full-throttle, seamless work that is rather remarkable. This is an amazing wine, and Luc Morlet has certainly proven once again his incredible talents and knowledge of great vineyard sites. (RP)" (12/2015)

Aromas of baked red cherry and red plum are dusted with nutmeg, clove and a crushed-slate minerality. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Domaine Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru "Valmur" (94RP, 94VN, 93BH, 93JG, 93ST). Vinous: "The 2013 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru from Domaine Raveneau sports lucid green tints in the glass. It has what you might describe as a “mean” nose, hints of fresh limes, gooseberry and petrichor. Plenty of mineralité here. Moderate intensity, tight at first, this Valmur requires a few minutes to find its groove, delivering stem ginger-tinged citric peel with a slightly oiliness towards the finish that is surprising given the growing season. Quite penetrating on the close. This is excellent, yet it deserves more bottle age. (NM)" (09/2022)

Bid on this bottle of 2013 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru "Clos des Bouchères" ((91-93BH), 93JG, 92RP, 92VN). Burghound: "A more elegant, airy and slightly cooler nose displays notes of citrus, rose petal, essence of almost and a hint of jasmine tea. There is an equally good sense of refinement to the ultra-pure and more obviously mineral-inflected flavors that culminate in an understated, clean and beautifully focused and balanced finish that is positively Zen-like in its sense of harmony. This and the Porusot beautifully demonstrate the two extremes of the Meursault 1ers as they contrast power and punch with elegance and finesse. Note that while these are qualitative equals they could hardly be more different. *Outstanding*" (06/2015)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Sea Smoke "Botella" Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir. Sea Smoke remains one of the Central Coast's cult Pinot producers. Available only to the winery's list members, and made only in exceptional years, Botella is named for the deep, clay soils of the portion of the estate vineyard where it is grown. Wine Advocate's Jeb Dunnuck offers this preview from a recent report: "I was thrilled with these latest releases from Sea Smoke and when the region is chasing Burgundian-like ripeness and acid profiles, they continue to show it is possible to make rich, full-bodied and concentrated Pinot Noirs from the Sta. Rita Hills that are a joy to drink." (08/2015)

Of the 2013 Produttori del Barbaresco "Asili" Barbaresco Riserva, Vinous writes: "Absolutely stunning in every way, the 2013 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is also the most complete wine in the lineup at this stage. Floral, lifted and exquisitely beautiful, the 2013 speaks to regal elegance and finesse above all else. Silky tannins add to an impression of total sensuality. At this stage, there is almost no impression of tannin, as the wine is so impeccably balanced. The 2013 shuts down quickly in the glass, which may suggest it is headed for a long period of dormancy. Readers who can find the Asili should not miss it, as it is truly sublime. (AG)" (10/2017)

Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Monte Bello is a very special vintage for this great wine... On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, powerful and multidimensional, with a lavishly textural attack that segues into a stunningly layered, richly structured mid-palate endowed with incredible depth and concentration underpinned by succulent acids. The finish is long, vibrant and beautifully delineated. The 2013 is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot, and it attained 13.6% natural alcohol... This profound Monte Bello will begin to blossom as it reaches age ten and should prove practically immortal. (WK)" (05/2018)

What a steal, 5 dollars per year of age on Premier Cru Chablis! This wine is worth every penny, a crisp, complex expression of a prized appellation. On the palate, this wine is bursting with minerality, with notes of apple, pear, and lemon zest, complemented with salinity and a touch of honey. 2013 Chablis is drinking beautifully right now, and this is certainly among the best options on the market.
The aromas to this are really impressive with crushed berries, dried flowers, walnuts and roses. Metamorphoses all the time. Full to medium body, characterized by a fantastic mouthfeel of ripe and round tannins that are always polished and beautiful. Magnificent harmony and purity.
The 2013 Brut Rosé Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon is much more exuberant than the 2012, even though on the surface, that does not exactly align with the respective vintages. The decision to use a bit more new oak, more still red wine and a touch higher dosage to soften the natural austerity of the year paid off handsomely. Rose petal, blood orange, spice and kirsch confer a decidedly exotic flair. The ample, substantial finish is striking. Dosage is 4.4 grams per liter. Disgorged: January 2024. (AG)
Top Pick
The 2013 Brut Blancs de Blancs Louis Salmon is an exceptional follow-up to the 2012. Naturally, the 2013 offers a bit more tension, cut and drive, all signatures of this late-ripening vintage. Chalk, slate, crushed rocks, citrus confit and hazelnut all race across the palate as the 2013 sizzles with tension from start to finish. This is still a baby. Give it time. Dosage is 4 grams per liter. Disgorged: January 2024. (AG)
The 2013 Masseto is really starting to show off, opening in the glass to aromas of framboise, crushed stones, cypress, fresh leather, and minty lift. Ripe but chiseled, it’s full-bodied, with very well-defined, ripe tannins. Notes of salty dark earth drive the wine forward, while more savory and earthy notes of pu-ehr tea last long after the wine is gone. It’s a wine that will be sturdy in the long run, and its structure is not going anywhere. For my personal taste, the 2020 has a slight edge over this, but it’s a remarkable wine. Drink 2025-2050. The approximate blend of the 2013 is outstanding and this is clearly going to be a great bottle in the making, as the wine jumps from the glass in a deep and very pure constellation of cherries, red plums, beautiful spice tones, a touch of cocoa, crystalline minerality and a deft framing of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, tangy and very refined this year, with a fine core, suave tannins and a long, tangy and very energetic finish. Great juice in the making! (Drink between 2025-2075)
Located near Annapolis on the far western Sonoma Coast, Peay Vineyard is a cool, maritime site planted by the Peay family beginning in the late 1990s. Failla’s vineyard-designated Pinot Noir reflects Ehren Jordan’s longstanding focus on coastal California vineyards and restrained cellar work.
If you weren’t aware, I’m a total sucker for Caol Ila. It’s a very large distillery, but only a fraction of its total production makes it out as single malt. I’ve even heard rumors that significant quantities of unpeated malt are produced for their blending needs. One thing I love about Caol Ila is that, like some of its Islay neighbors, it’s remarkably multifaceted. It’s difficult to determine whether these stylistic ranges are intentional, like Bruichladdich, or seasonal, like Laphroaig, but we have three barrels this year of different styles and ages, each in classic refill hogsheads. The idea was to capture three faces of Caol Ila and present them at stupendous prices. This second barrel from Old Particular is starting to offer a wilder side of the wonderful north shore distiller. The color is a bright yellow gold (0.4). The nose is powerful with green pepper, lime zesty, dense green peat and tense ashy smoke. There's some lovely soft oak to mellow a bit to already and hints of smoked meats. Dense dark ash smoke envelopes the palate and doesn't relent. Smoking embers, mesquite, dark roast wood, and a tense salty finish. A totally wonderful and unexpected side of this fabulous distillery.

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2013 Isole e Olena "Cepparello" Toscana (97RP, 96VN, 95WE, 94JS, 93DC). Wine Advocate: "Hands down beautiful, The 2013 Cepparello is a creation of stunning elegance and balance. A pure expression of Sangiovese, this wine undergoes a sophisticated oak regime that sees ageing in various barrel sizes and barrique of various ages. It lives 18 months of its life in French and 3% American oak before being released. This vintage (that is cooler compared to 2012 and 2011) delivers an exceptionally soft and mellow bouquet with slightly sweet sensations of ripe cherry and fragrant blue flower. Soft tones of spice and cinnamon bring up the rear. The wine is medium to full in terms of body weight, and the finish is driven by cool tones of balsam and menthol herb. The 2013 Cepparello is one of my favorite wines of the vintage. (ML)" (12/2016)

Deep and nearly impenetrable in the glass, the 2013 boasts off the charts dry extract and overall power. Violets, smoke, black cherries, menthol, incense, crème de cassis and dark spices are some of the many signatures that take shape in the glass. Insider's Advantage
The 2013 Pinot Noir Estate Vineyard has a bit more depth than some of the other wines in the range, and that is a good thing, especially in this vintage. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, spice, mint and rose petal are all pushed to the forefront in a deep yet essentially mid-weight Pinot Noir endowed with class and plenty of nuance. The firm, grippy finish suggests another year or two in bottle will only help. (AG)
The 2013 ‘Extended Tirage’ was disgorged in July 2023. Given 3 G/L dosage, The wine was picked before the rains of the 2013 vintage. On the nose this shows baking spice dusted pastry crust, Pink Lady apple, and juicy peach notes with shades of diatomaceous earth. The mousse is super refined and elegant, as this glides throughout the drinking experience. 60% Pinot Noir with the remainder Chardonnay. This is ethereal stuff that is only starting to hit its stride. Drink 2024-2038.
The 61st vintage, from 101yo ungrafted dry-grown vines, matured for 18 months in 81% French and 19% American hogsheads (34% new). The decision to hold back the release of this shiraz until after the '14 was correct - this is a densely packed wine destined for a long life as vertical tastings have proved again and again, intensity and focus achieved without apparent effort. Medium-bodied, but with compelling black fruits riding on the back of tannins and carefully measured oak.
The 2013 Aus den Gärten Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Late Bottled was filled in April last year, so 10 years later than the regular bottling. The wine is clear, intense and fresh on the deep and savory, mineral-scented nose that reveals subtle fruit with lots of salt and a still fresh or ageless, in any case not primary, fruity bouquet. Dense and textured on the palate, this is a medium to full-bodied, round, lush and refined, dense and sustainable Veltliner with a spectacular finish that is still tight and grippy, with distinctive tannins. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Archive Release 2024. Tasted in January 2025.(SR)
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2013 Rhys "Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (95DC, 94JG, 94RP, 94VN, 92BH). Decanter: "It was Jeremy Seysses of Burgundy’s Domaine Dujac who alerted me to the amazing things that Kevin Harvey and his team at Rhys are doing, and that seems appropriate as the wines certainly seem to nod to Dujac’s style. The 2013 Alpine Vineyard Pinot Noir is one of the most compelling young wines I’ve tasted from Rhys. Its youthful and savoury bouquet of crisp red and black cherry, fresh herbs, cinnamon and rich forest floor is followed on the palate by a wine of impressive vibrancy and depth. Rhys wines are built for the cellar, and the handful of older bottles I’ve encountered suggests that patience really is rewarded. (WK)" (02/2016)
