This is the essence of Le Pin with incredible silk texture and beautiful fruit. A berry, sweet-tobacco, chocolate and dusty undertone. It reminds me of many wonderful and underrated Le Pins of the 1980s like 1985 or 1986. What a wine. Better in 2018. But who can wait? Cystal clear. It’s like the 2001 that was always better than 2000.
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Kistler "Trenton Roadhouse" Sonoma Coast Chardonnay (94RP, 93VN, 93WS). Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Chardonnay Trenton Roadhouse returns to the tropical fruit side of Chardonnay, with pineapple, mango, mandarin orange and honeysuckle notes. Long, rich, full-bodied, crisp and zesty, this is a juicy, succulent, opulent and full-bodied Chardonnay to drink over the next 5-7 years. (RP)" (01/2015)

One of the best 2012s released. This so fresh and transparent, with superb clarity and brightness. Subtle aromas of mangoes, apples, some pie crust and crushed stones that follow through to a medium body with a tight palate and an endless finish. Precise on every level. Haute couture. Sophisticated. What a great Champagne can be. Released in magnum June 2026. Disgorged February 2025. Drink or hold.

We've had a lot of great 2012 Champagnes come through here thanks to Gary Westby, who I have personally voted as Champagne Buyer of the Year for the last five years I've worked here. It's only an award in my head, which also means he's won five years in a row and all of you that have interacted with him already know that I have voted with your interests in mind. This Champagne is absolutely delicious, the nose has some sourdough baguette notes at the forefront and then pretty white flowers, a little red apple skin, and then the chalky minerality. The palate is just amazing, more sourdough notes, but also a lot more fruit with red apples, a little hint of underripe rapsberry, and blood orange. The acidity is outstanding, and the depth and complexity are off the charts. This is probably one of the best bottles of Champagne under $100 that we have in the store right now, and that's saying a lot.
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Aubert "UV Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir ((93-95RP), 94VN). Wine Advocate: "An exceptional perfume of rose petals, loamy soil, raspberries, blueberries and spring flowers jumps from the glass of the 2012 Pinot Noir UV-SL. Primarily Calera clonal material with some Vosne-Romanee suitcase clones, it was fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged 12 months prior to being assembled in tank and then bottled without fining or filtration. his beauty should age effortlessly for 10-12 years. Bid on this bottle of 2012 Le Coeur (Vérité) Alexander Valley Tannat. Le Coeur Tannat is a distinctive wine produced by Pierre Seillan, the esteemed winemaker behind Vérité, as part of Jackson Family Wines. Sourced from high-elevation vineyards in Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, this wine showcases the Tannat grape, traditionally associated with France's Madiran region. Le Coeur Tannat is celebrated for its deep ruby color and complex bouquet, featuring aromas of black plum, black cherry preserves, fresh violets, and French roast coffee. On the palate, it offers a linear and racy texture, with firm tannins, high acidity, and a pronounced mineral note of wet stones, culminating in a bright, lingering finish. This wine exemplifies Seillan's dedication to crafting wines that reflect both varietal character and the unique terroir of Sonoma County.

Bid on this bottle of 2012 Sine Qua Non "Rattrapante - Eleven Confessions Vineyard" Sta. Rita Hills Grenache (100RP, 97VN). Wine Advocate: "A perfect wine any way you look at it, the 2012 Grenache Rattrapante comes all from the Eleven Confessions Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills and spent 33 months in 27% new French oak. My notes start - and end - with “Wow.” Giving up tons of black raspberries, peppery herbs, licorice, dried flowers and cured meats, it’s a massively concentrated, rich and layered Grenache that somehow manages to stay graceful, lively and fresh on the palate. There are roughly 800 cases of this elixir and any Grenache lover should do their best to latch onto a bottle (or two). It’s also worth noting that this cuvee saw 26% whole clusters, which is a small change from past vintages. (JD)" (08/2016)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Isole e Olena "Cepparello" Toscana (97VN, 95WE, 94JS, 93RP, 92DC). Vinous: "The 2012 Cepparello is just as compelling as it has always been. Sweet, ample and generous from the outset, the 2012 shows all of its pedigree, even at this early stage. Radiant fruit and exquisite aromatics make a strong opening statement as the wine fleshes out in the glass. Ample, creamy and super-expressive, the 2012 is shaping up to be a superb Cepparello. The only thing the 2012 needs is time. An up and down year with hot temperatures in July and early August, followed by rain in September forced DeMarchi to be especially selective and bottle only the best lots. (AG)" (10/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 2012 Colgin "IX Estate" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100IWR, 99JD, 99RP, 96JS, 96VN). Int'l Wine Review: "The stunning IX Estate Proprietary Red is a simply flawless effort from Colgin in 2012. This compelling blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot is sourced entirely from the Parcel 9 at Colgin's sloping vineyards perched on Pritchard Hill, high above Lake Hennesey. This majestic wine opens with intense aromas of ripe dark currants and blueberries along with smoke and soy sauce which all come together beautifully in the glass. On the palate there are layers of ripe dark fruits along with dark chocolate, crushed stones and hints of iron. This continues to impress with its gorgeous round, voluptuous texture and well-integrated tannins, which make for a seamless transition into the persistent finish. Winemaker Allison Tauziet has crafted an absolute masterpiece, which is sure to have a long future ahead. (VM)" (12/2015)

Wine Advocate: "Coming all from the En Chamberlin vineyard and made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2012 The Widowmaker is backward and tight, with bright acidity giving lift to notes of cassis, graphite, smoked earth and lots of crushed-rock minerality. Full-bodied and concentrated on the palate, yet still showing a more elegant, focused and pure style, it won't hit maturity for another 7-8 years, and will keep for 25+. (JD) 96+" (06/2015)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino (94DC, 94RP, 93JS, 93KO, 93VN, 93W&S, 92WS). Wine Advocate: "This is the first sample tasted in this historic retrospective. The Il Poggione 2012 Brunello di Montalcino makes for a beautiful surprise and is a fitting preface to the older vintages to follow. The wine reveals nice tannic structure at the back with lots of spice and mature fruit layered over. The quality of the silky tannins stands out especially. There is dark richness and concentration with leather and tobacco. This vintage saw its challenges, mostly due to scorching summer heat and dry winds, but the wine is all pleasure at this point in its drinking evolution. In fact, this is sheer delight. The nose is alive with black cherry, cedar, and scorched herbs. Muscular, broad, and medium-to-full bodied with deep black cherry, spiced plums, and blood orange. Precise, sculpted tannins are buoyant, and the acid tension is palpable. The finish is marked by more scorched herbs, smoke, and cedar and lasts over a minute. (JC)" (04/2023)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Cliff Lede "Poetry" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 92VN). Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry (89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) is indeed worthy of its name. Bottled perfection, it is an extraordinary Cabernet Sauvignon offering floral, blackcurrant, boysenberry and hints of oak, forest floor and graphite notes, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and an exuberance, freshness and delineation that are remarkable. This amazing effort is the quintessential Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon that is Napa Valley’s version of Château Margaux. The finish just won’t quit. Kudos to proprietor Cliff Lede. This cuvée needs 3-4 years of aging, and should keep for 20-25... It is located on the Yountville Crossroads, directly across from another budding superstar, the Kapcsandy Family Winery. The straw color reveals a greenish hue, and the wine bursts from the glass with notes of exotic fruits, wet stones, limes and white peaches. It has a kinship to a great Coche-Dury Corton-Charlemagne. Bouzy, a grand cru village on Champagne’s Montagne de Reims, is closely associated with Pinot Noir. Paul Clouet’s 2012 Blanc de Noirs places that village at the center of a white Champagne made from dark-skinned grapes. As a vintage Champagne, it represents a single year’s harvest rather than a blend of harvest years.
Few, if any, non-classed growths have a better terroir or track record in recent vintages. Fragrant fruit, well balanced with a full, rounded flavour. Just right to drink now after 10 years. (SP)
This complex Champagne has delicious aromas of waffle cones, vanilla beans, apricots and pastry with touches of white chocolate and salted caramel. It’s electric on the palate, which is creamy yet structured and focused, with a fine bead of bubbles and a zesty, tangy backbone of acidity. Long and tense finish. 60% pinot noir and 40% chardonnay (all premier and grand cru), 10% of wines are vinified in oak casks. 10 years on lees. 3.8 g/L dosage. Disgorged in the second half of 2024. Bid on this magnum of 2012 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe "La Crau" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L) (94WS, 93DC, 93RP, 93VN). Bid on this magnum of 2012 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (98RP, 96VN, 95WS). Wine Advocate: "The classic 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon included fruit from the 2-acre, old vine parcel that is nearly 70 years of age. It boasts an opaque purple color as well as copious notes of spring flowers, blackberries, black raspberries and wet rocks. The wine’s gravelly minerality and spectacular opulence and density make it an instant classic. This massive, full-bodied 2012 should drink beautifully for 15-20+ years. It showed incredibly well last year, and it still reveals the potential to possibly merit a 3-digit score – it’s that special. (RP)" (10/2014)

Bid on this magnum of 2012 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L) (97WS, 96JD, 96RP, 94VN). Wine Spectator: "A stunner, with a gorgeous cassis aroma that soars from the glass, reinforced by a core of cassis, cherry and plum pâte de fruit, hoisin sauce, warm ganache and well-roasted apple wood notes. Hefty, but suave and seamless. The finish lets graphite and licorice elements glide through. The structure is dense, polished and perfectly integrated, resulting in lovely length. Vinous: "Tasted next to the 2012 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo, the Flaccianello is richer, deeper and more flamboyant. Super-ripe red stone fruit, smoke, licorice and dark spices meld together in a deep, powerful wine. The 2012 is impressive, but personally I prefer the finesse and freshness of the Sorbo. The greater influence of new French oak is also felt in the wine's texture. Still, that is splitting hairs, as the level here is high. Very high. (AG)" (10/2016)

Bid on this bottle of 2012 Trotanoy, Pomerol (96JG, 96RP, 96WS, 95DC, 95VN, 94WE, 92JS, 92TWI). Wine Advocate: "A spectacular Pomerol that is dense ruby/purple with notes of beef blood, crème de cassis, black cherry liqueur, licorice, iron, and perhaps a touch of truffle. Full-bodied, opulent and clearly a blockbuster of 2012, this profound wine offers serious competition for Petrus and several other limited-production, high-quality Pomerols. This is a stunner from the Moueix firm and should age well for 20-25 years. The final blend was 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, with only 2, 000 cases produced. (RP)" (04/2015)

Made in a hot year, but not showing the effects of the weather, this comes from vineyards in Villalba, Briones and Torremontalbo and is another brilliant release from María Larrea. Savoury, sweet and well balanced, with 15% Graciano adding extra backbone and the zest that you expect from this special red.
Insider's Advantage
Coming in at a staggering 136.6 proof, this is an absolute beast of a Cognac, and one that whiskey lovers will likely gravitate toward. Not just because of the strength, but because it delivers a broad range of whisky-like flavors that many Cognacs leave behind. Distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2021, it is robust, playful, and demands your full attention. The nose opens with fresh-roasted coffee beans, tiramisu, dried figs and apricots, plum molasses, and orange blossom honey, followed by hints of lychee and oak moss. The first sip is unapologetically bold, bringing leather, toffee, licorice, mushrooms, and a peppery spice. Water is very much this spirit’s friend. It softens the edges and reveals additional fruit and floral notes, along with deeper layers of roasted caramel and honey. The finish returns to coffee, dates, and plums, joined by cigar box and soft leather. This is not a shy spirit by any measure, and a bit of water is key to opening it up and revealing its beautiful layers.
Insider's Advantage
From high atop the hills above Freestone, this Pinot Noir saw 10% stem inclusion during fermentation and was aged in 20% new oak for just over a year to achieve enviable structure and bite amid an intensity of raspberry and strawberry kirsch flavor. This gorgeous wine will open up even more if held in bottle until 2017–2019. But it's so good now you'll find it hard to wait. (VB)
Billecart-Salmon’s 2012 Nicolas François marks the first release since 2008 and stands as another success. The fundamentals remain unchanged: settling and fermentation at low temperatures, a small proportion vinified in oak barrels and partial malolactic fermentation (20% was blocked in 2012). This vintage was characterized by a prolonged flowering period, significant rainfall and mildew pressure, resulting in a small crop. The harvest of fruit, which contributed to this cuvée, took place between September 17 and 22. "It was crucial to select only the ripest fruit, as maturation varied significantly between plots," explains Billecart’s head winemaker, Florent Nys. But what of the wine itself? Disgorged in May 2023 with a dosage of 3.8 grams per liter, it exudes aromas of candied lemon, honeysuckle and ripe peach, mingling with nuances of beeswax and orange zest. On the palate, it is full-bodied, ample and enveloping, boasting a layered, concentrated core, a chalky structure and mouthwatering acidity, despite the warm vintage. It concludes with a persistent, saline finish, hinting at the savory complexity that has emerged with such notable bottle age. Compared to the 2008, which remains tightly coiled, the 2012 is broader-shouldered and more demonstrative. (KK)
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2012 Agricola Punica "Barrua" Isola dei Nuraghi (94JS, 92VN, 91RP, 90WE, 90WS). James Suckling: "I thought the 2011 was the best ever from this stylish wine producer in Sardinia. But the 2012 is clearly better showing vivid aromas of currants, dried cherry, rosemary, citrus and dried chili. Full body, dense but not heavy center palate, and a long savory, mushroom, mahogany and berry aftertaste. A blend of local varieties with a hint of international ones. " (10/2012)

Powerful tannins give the Grands-Échézeaux much of its verticality and pure power. Dark cherry, plum, spices and a host of mentholated, balsamic notes are woven throughout. The 2012 is built for the long haul, that much is obvious. I wouldn't plan on opening a bottle any time soon. I very much like the wine's sense of energy. (AG)" (04/2015)

Of the 2012 Vérité "La Joie" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend, Wine Advocate writes: "The 2012 La Joie, which is a blend of 76% Cabernet, 12% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, blew me away. A profound effort, with 55% of it coming from Hillsides in Alexander Valley, 31% from Knights Valley and the balance from Chalk Hill, the wine shows great minerality, oodles of cr?me de cassis fruit, incense, licorice, crushed rock, and a provocative full-throttle mouthfeel. A wine of great intensity, purity and equilibrium, this definitely begs for 4-7 years of bottle aging and should drink well for at least 30+ years. Drink through 2050. (RP)" (10/2015)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2012 Pian dell'Orino "Vigneti del Versante" Brunello di Montalcino (97RP, 94VN). Wine Advocate: "This wine exudes elegant power and linear finesse... We should expect to see it in the fall of 2018. The bouquet offers so much care and detailing that all comes together like a massive ceiling fresco in an Italian Renaissance palace. The bouquet allows for a big picture perspective with wild cherry, rose hip, dried ginger, rosemary and spice. The mouthfeel is firm, almost crunchy. Swirl the glass a few times and savory tones of moist earth and exotic tea begin to appear. This is a beautiful wine worth waiting for. The wines of Pian dell'Orino put forth an uncanny sense of zen and harmony. This is something I notice each year when I visit the estate for my tasting. Honestly, that fantastic sense of vinous peace and harmony is something I have only encountered here with this level of consistency. (ML)" (02/2018)
