Wine Advocate: "From a vineyard situated on the lower hillsides in the St. Helena appellation, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Lotus Vineyard’s dark ruby/purple color is followed by an extraordinary bouquet of crushed rocks, spring flowers, and black currants. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Dana Estates "Hershey Vineyard" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - (88-90RP)) in original wood. 88-90 points Robert Parker: "The most difficult offering to evaluate is the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Hershey Vineyard from Howell Mountain. It displays a cool climate style with higher acidity than its siblings, more red berry fruit, high tannins, and a foreboding, backward personality. This effort will require considerable patience as it needs to develop more flesh to match the other wines in this impressive portfolio." (12/08)

Bid on this magnum of 2006 Dana Estates "Helms Vineyard" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC - 94RP, 92ST) in original wood. Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Helms Vineyard possesses the vintage’s structure and power. While this vintage is more irregular than the 2005, it has a tendency to produce more masculine-styled wines with loads of concentration, but less charm and finesse (at least at this stage). The 2006s are somewhat reminiscent of the 1996s, which followed the brilliant years of 1994 and 1995. The deep ruby/purple-hued 2006 Helms Vineyard cuvee offers subtle notes of spicy oak intermixed with forest floor and new oak. It exhibits a powerful, dense, rich finish, but overall is less evolved than the seemingly more complex 2005. (RP)" (12/2008)

Craigellachie remains one of the most interesting and complex distillers in the Highlands. One of just 20 or so distillers still using worm tubs, its characterful spirit has many sides to it. This is the home of the heart of the John Dewar’s brand and one of the most interesting plants in all of Speyside. What makes it unique are the fat, onion-shaped stills, the surprisingly steep lyne arm and the steel worm tubs. The resulting spirit tends to be oily and rich and can offer character ranging from industrial engine oil to the ultra-fruity. With that, we often see heavier wood or oak treatments, but it’s refreshing to see the spirit on full display here, with a feeling of great maturity alongside that freshness. Let’s try it! The color is pale gold (0.3). The nose is full of stone fruit and crushed rocks, white cherries, manzano bananas, crisp, fresh malt and baking spice. The beautiful fullness of flavor continues on the palate, but doesn’t wade into the aggressively greasy or weird, with a fruity front palate retaining the nearly tropical fruit and the big, juicy core building through the center. Adding water here is really interesting and adds weight and complexity, but only a couple of drops are needed. Now some of the oilier notes come forward, but the apricot-y tone takes over from the tropical banana stuff. It’s simply a lovely, spirit-driven whisky without obstruction. Considering where many other bottlers put their older Craigellachie, it’s quite a good value as well. A perfect one for someone really into exploring this special spirit, but pretty enough to attract any malt lover’s attention.

Bid on this bottle of 2006 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (96DC, 96JA, 96RP, 96WE, 95IWR, 95JD, 95ST, 94WS). Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Château Haut-Brion has a more ostentatious bouquet than the comparatively reserved La Mission: quite feisty blackberry, briary, kirsch and red plum scents, hints of leather and sage tucked just underneath. This is a bouquet determined to make an impression! The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well-judged acidity, a gentle build to a concentrated, earthy, truffle-tinged finish that lingers long in the mouth. This seems to have the upper-hand over the La Mission and probably has a longer future. A thoroughbred from Jean-Philippe Delmas and his team. (NM)" (05/2016)

Bid on this 7-bottle lot of 2006 Martinelli "Lolita Ranch" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. According to the Producer's Website: The Lolita Ranch is located on Martinelli Road in Forestville. Giuseppe & Luisa had purchased the steep, forested landscape in the late 1800's and then later sold this particular section to a neighbor. On this site, circa 1900, there once stood a small country schoolhouse where some of the Martinelli family attended at the turn of the century. Eventually the ranch was passed on to Bob and Lolita Young, who ran a herd of Angus and Hereford cattle on the land for many years. Third generation farmer, Lee Martinelli Jr., and his wife Pamela acquired the property in 1999, returning it back to the Martinelli estate and to the family’s continuing century-long legacy of viticulture. Lee Jr. planted the steep hillside with four different grape varietals: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Zinfandel.

This is a fascinating showcase of how graceful Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon can age. Now 15 years old, this bottling still shows complex aromas of roasted strawberry, ashy wood, mashed olive, espresso bean and damp mushroom. The palate remains as fresh as many new Cabs, with polished tannins offering dark fruit, dried porcini and bittersweet cocoa flavors. *Editors' Choice* (MK)

It is made up of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 11% Malbec, and 2% Merlot. Opaque purple/black in color, it exhibits aromas of rose petal, dried fruits, spice box, incense, black currant, and blackberry. Suave, velvety, elegant and powerful, all it needs is another 6-8 years in the cellar to reveal its full potential. Gary Figgins and son, Chris, keep tweaking things in the vineyards and cellar as they move toward totally biodynamic farming. Its obvious tannins are balanced by plenty of stuffing, and it is a Merlot for the long run rather than for immediate drinking." (03/2009)

Decanter: "Although the latest vintages of Mon Plaisir are sourced from the eponymous vineyard in Knights Valley, between 1987 and 2006 the fruit came from Gauer Ranch in northern Sonoma County (renamed Alexander Mountain Estate in 1995). The vines were planted in 1980 at altitudes of between 427m and 548m on soils composed of volcanic Kidd series and decomposed shale. An excellent pairing for Dayboat scallops with fresh herbs, this Chardonnay has an array of yellow flowers which dominate the aromatic landscape. Bid on this bottle of 2006 Screaming Eagle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98VN, 95RP, 95ST). Vinous: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is stunning. A wine that is only now beginning to shed its tannin, the 2006 stands out for its vibrancy and energy. All of the classic Screaming Eagle notes are in the glass, but with a little more edge and cut than in most vintages. Sweet red berries, crushed rocks, flowers and spice box are alive in the glass. Over time, hints of sage, mint rosemary and pencil shavings add complexity. The 2006 is a decidedly cool-weather wine with less opulence than either the 2007 or 2009, but it is absolutely singing today. Another few years will only help the wine come together even more fully, but it is impossible to miss the 2006's utterly breathtaking beauty. (AG)" (12/2012)

It is powerful, fleshy, and fruit-forward. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. Domaine du Tertre, producing both cider and small amounts of Calvados, is overseen by brothers Michel and Hubert Havard. In 2017, they became certified organic for their 45+ acres of orchard farming and their cider production. They maintain similar practices for their calvados but forgo certification due to the small size of production. Du Tertre works with 40 different apple varietals, all of which see zero chemical treatment and are harvested from "hautes tiges" (high branch), lower-yielding trees. Ciders are fermented for about a year in used oak and distilled only when the juice is totally free of sugar. Distillation takes place on a ten-plate Orthez column still by a traveling distiller. Age varies by cask but is usually between 15 and 20 years. Always bottled at cask strength with no additives.

Wine Advocate: "An incredible wine that tops out on my scale, the 2006 Ermitage Les Greffieux is massively concentrated and rich, with incredible aromas and flavors of black fruits, roasted herbs, tar, licorice and beef blood. Without a doubt the most concentrated, powerful wine in the lineup, it has the fruit and texture to make your eyes roll back in your head, but has the depth, concentration and structure to evolve for decades. It has an immensely powerful structure and concentration, always the hallmark of this wine. But this structure is almost masked by the superbly ripe and fresh fruit. And with all this weight, there is still a sense of proportion, the rich berry fruits, smokiness and light spice beautifully integrated. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (03/2009)

The legendary product of two tiny plots of ungrafted, untrellised Pinot Noir in Aÿ, this is a cuvée of profound concentration and ripeness. In sheer persistence it takes Champagne to a higher plateau, with red Burgundy-like expansiveness and a flourish of theatrical proportions. Yet for all its flamboyance it has been expertly controlled, a revelation of line and length, enduring into tomorrow. Profound and strong, yet ever so fit. (TS)

The 2006 Malvirà "Trinità" Roero Riserva Nebbiolo is a rare, mature treasure. At nearly two decades old, it showcases the absolute magic of perfectly aged Nebbiolo with mesmerizing notes of worn leather, sweet tobacco, dried orange peel, and forest floor. It is a profound meditation wine that proves exactly why Roero deserves a prominent place in any serious collector's cellar.

Since 1959 the estate has kept 50% of production back for a second release when the wine is ready to drink, and this vintage has not yet seen its mature release (they are currently on the 2004). You can see why - it's an exceptional wine that still needs time in the cellar. The biggest difference that you see between grand vin and second wine is the size, shape and layers of the tannins. Here they are closed, barely getting going and yet unquestionably full of purpose, doing their job of defining and controlling the dark fruits. Coiled energy supports gorgeous crushed cassis and slate. This still has decades ahead of it. (JA)
The 2006 Norheimer Dellchen Riesling Auslese seems to be following a mission for this site to display in the most elegant, delicate, and seemingly effortless way the concentrated ripeness of the vintage, in the process proving Donnhoff’s hypothesis that – like the Hermannshohle – Dellchen “has talent at all levels of residual sugar.” This Auslese puts away the botrytis as the dry Spatlese dispatched its alcohol and the sweet Spatlese its residual sugar. A cherry-nectarine liqueur redolent of distilled essences and laced with lemon generates an inner-mouth explosion of floral perfume. Deep honey and chocolate richness well-up but do not pull this masterpiece down from its orbital state. I would not pull a cork for 15 years nor be in any hurry (were I a young man) to drink it up in less than 40 years. (DS)

The 2006 Shiraz “Malcolm” was tasted from a barrel sample. The wine was sourced from a single, dry-grown vineyard, with vine age ranging from 20-120 years. It was first barrel-fermented and is now receiving the “200% new oak” treatment, spending the first 12 months in new French oak before transfer to new American oak for another 12 months. It will be bottled unfined and unfiltered. Purple/black colored, it has an ethereal bouquet of wood smoke, pencil lead, crushed stone, bacon, game, blueberry, and blackberry. Dense and packed, with gobs of spicy black fruits, super depth and concentration, and a very long finish, this great effort merits a decade of cellaring and will provide pleasure through 2036. (JM)
Travellers Liquors was founded in Belize City in 1953, beginning with founder Jaime Perdomo’s blending and bottling of local rums. This 2006 Belize rum was matured for 17 years, drawn from a single cask, and bottled at cask strength for Distinctive Spirits’ Series I in a 700ml format.
The nose on the 2006 is deep, pure and primary, as it offers up notes of cherries, tangerine, bee pollen, floral tones and a serious mother load of minerality. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and pure, with laser-like focus, gem-like transparency, brisk acids, and simply stunning cut and grip on the very long, pure and ethereal finish. Another magnificent 2006 wine from Helmut Dönnhoff.
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2006 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule ((94-95RP), 93WS, 92WE). Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule offers gardenia, orange blossom, apple jelly, and honey in the nose. Malt and peach join the floral and apple essences on the palate, which alternates silken and buttery textural expressions. Acidity is not at all obvious here, but its presence is felt in balanced sweetness and in finishing penetration and energy. Malt, butter cream and flowers linger in the empty glass. If this were sold solely as perfume it would already justify its price. But it would really be a shame to open a bottle for at least 15 years, and it could be held for at least 40. (There were two bottlings of this wine – one this year – of which I tasted the first, A.P. #17 07.) (DS)" (10/2008)

These are distinctive and dramatic wines, and it is good to see a new addition to the portfolio, the blend of 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Semillon, The White Keys. Few spirits in Scotland are rarer than those from the two tightly controlled distilleries on Islay's southern coast. Over the years, we have occasionally offered both named and unnamed versions of this special spirit, but every time we do there is a feeling that it might be the last. These stocks almost never appear on the independent market, and true single casks are rarer still. What has never been surprising is the outrageous cost they command. Our last named Ardbeg single cask was a Chieftain's barrel, 15 years old and priced at $240. Before that, only a tiny handful of Ardbeg single casks had been made available to us over many, many years. So when we saw the magic word "Kildalton" on this sample, we assumed it had to be something unusual or off-profile. Perhaps an unpeated version, or maybe a teaspooned blend. Not this time. This exudes that beautiful, ashy white smoke we know and love from the masters at the end of the road on Islay's south shore. Distilled on October 31, 2006, it was filled into a refill butt and aged for nearly 20 years before being bottled at full cask strength of 52.7%, without chillfiltration. Very few barrels at this quality to price ratio have ever existed and while we'd welcome many more like it, its unlikely that these sorts of stocks will become a regular feature of our selection.

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2006 Pride Mountain Napa-Sonoma Counties Cabernet Sauvignon (92CG, 91WE, 90RP). Connoisseurs Guide: "Pride has here again authored a wine of great size and command. It is intense, focused, deep, tight and open at the same time, loaded with sweet curranty perfumes and happily endowed with rich oak in the nose, and it is full and supple to start on the palate and tannic to finish. Its inviting underbelly is not to be ignored as it gives the wine a certain drinkability even now when paired with chunks of grilled meat, but its convincing fruit and its solidity promise to keep the wine in good stead for years of rewarding aging. *Two Stars*" (04/2010)
